Multiparametric Rational Solutions of Order N to the KPI Equation and the Explicit Case of Order 3
2021
We present multiparametric rational solutions to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation (KPI). These solutions of order N depend on 2N − 2 real parameters. Explicit expressions of the solutions at order 3 are given. They can be expressed as a quotient of a polynomial of degree 2N(N +1)−2 in x, y and t by a polynomial of degree 2N(N +1) in x, y and t, depending on 2N − 2 real parameters. We study the patterns of their modulus in the (x,y) plane for different values of time t and parameters.
Organocatalytic Oxa-Michael/Michael/Michael/Aldol Condensation Quadruple Domino Sequence : Asymmetric Synthesis of Tricyclic Chromanes
2018
An efficient and highly stereoselective one-pot, four-component synthesis of functionalized tricyclic chromanes has been achieved through an organocatalyzed quadruple domino reaction. The reaction sequence involves an oxa-Michael/Michael/Michael/aldol condensation between alcohols, 2 equiv of acrolein, and nitrochromenes to generate the pharmaceutically important tricyclic chromanes bearing three contiguous stereogenic centers including a chiral tetrasubstituted carbon center in good domino yields (30–70%) and excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities (>20:1 dr and >99% ee). peerReviewed
The conformational properties of dehydrobutyrine and dehydrovaline: theoretical and solid-state conformational studies
2010
Dehydrobutyrine is the most naturally occurring dehydroamino acid. It is also the simplest dehydroamino acid having the geometrical isomers E/Z. To investigate its conformational properties, a theoretical analysis was performed on N‐acetyl‐α,β‐dehydrobutyrine N′‐methylamides, Ac‐(E)‐ΔAbu‐NHMe and Ac‐(Z)‐ΔAbu‐NHMe, as well as the dehydrovaline derivative Ac‐ΔVal‐NHMe. The ϕ, ψ potential energy surfaces and the localised conformers were calculated at the B3LYP/6‐311 + + G(d,p) level of theory both in vacuo and with inclusion of the solvent (chloroform, water) effect (SCRF method). The X‐ray crystal structures of Ac‐(Z)‐ΔAbu‐NHMe and Ac‐ΔVal‐NHMe were determined at 85 and 100 K, respectively. …
Early Jurassic (Sinemurian) gastropods from the Lusitanian Basin (west of Portugal)
2020
The Sinemurian gastropod specimens herein studied come from two sources: from museum collections and from samplings in field. The study of the Sinemurian gastropod specimens housed in the collections of the Museu Geológico (Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia), Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência (University of Lisbon), Museu da Ciência (University of Coimbra) and of the Museu de História Natural e da Ciência (University of Porto), has allowed the systematic and taxonomical update of this material. These specimens come mostly from Sinemurian outcrops in S. Pedro de Moel area and Coimbra region, and were collected by Paul Choffat and collaborators in the geological field w…

A new approach for estimating a nonlinear growth component in multilevel modeling
2011
This study presents a new approach to estimation of a nonlinear growth curve component with fixed and random effects in multilevel modeling. This approach can be used to estimate change in longitudinal data, such as day-of-the-week fluctuation. The motivation of the new approach is to avoid spurious estimates in a random coefficient regression model due to the synchronized periodical effect (e.g., day-of-the-week fluctuation) appearing both in independent and dependent variables. First, the new approach is introduced. Second, a Monte Carlo simulation study is carried out to examine the functioning of the proposed new approach in the case of small sample sizes. Third, the use of the approac…
Anomaly Detection Algorithms for the Sleeping Cell Detection in LTE Networks
2015
The Sleeping Cell problem is a particular type of cell degradation in Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks. In practice such cell outage leads to the lack of network service and sometimes it can be revealed only after multiple user complains by an operator. In this study a cell becomes sleeping because of a Random Access Channel (RACH) failure, which may happen due to software or hardware problems. For the detection of malfunctioning cells, we introduce a data mining based framework. In its core is the analysis of event sequences reported by a User Equipment (UE) to a serving Base Station (BS). The crucial element of the developed framework is an anomaly detection algorithm. We compare perfor…
Cross-Domain Recommendations with Overlapping Items
2016
In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in cross-domain recommender systems. However, most existing works focus on the situation when only users or users and items overlap in different domains. In this paper, we investigate whether the source domain can boost the recommendation performance in the target domain when only items overlap. Due to the lack of publicly available datasets, we collect a dataset from two domains related to music, involving both the users’ rating scores and the description of the items. We then conduct experiments using collaborative filtering and content-based filtering approaches for validation purpose. According to our experimental results, the sourc…
Ontology-based standardization on knowledge exchange in social knowledge management environments
2012
After the hype around Web 2.0, organizations have revisited their efforts on knowledge management in order to create beneficial effects from their employees' activities in social environments. While there is not much doubt about the positive effects on creativity and flexibility, handling the variety of knowledge work environments that are in use at different organizational units or business partners can negatively affect productivity. While standards have generally mushroomed in the IT domain, there is a lack of standards in knowledge management. This paper argues for a standard on exchanging knowledge between social environments. We revisit related work, particularly standards which can b…
Exploiting ongoing EEG with multilinear partial least squares during free-listening to music
2016
During real-world experiences, determining the stimulus-relevant brain activity is excitingly attractive and is very challenging, particularly in electroencephalography. Here, spectrograms of ongoing electroencephalogram (EEG) of one participant constructed a third-order tensor with three factors of time, frequency and space; and the stimulus data consisting of acoustical features derived from the naturalistic and continuous music formulated a matrix with two factors of time and the number of features. Thus, the multilinear partial least squares (PLS) conforming to the canonical polyadic (CP) model was performed on the tensor and the matrix for decomposing the ongoing EEG. Consequently, we …
