Time-domain based feature space at FLUXNET sites for vegetation patterns identification

2019

Monitoring the flux transfer of mass and energy occurring within the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum is a pivotal key for understanding hydrological and vegetation relationships. Average daily values of the Priestley - Taylor (PT) parameter were calculated for 4 eddy covariance (EC) flux tower sites from FLUXNET network, characterized by different vegetation features, over the 2010-12 reference period. Site-by-site feature spaces (built by difference in diurnal and night-time land surface temperature versus enhanced vegetation index, ΔLST-EVI) were obtained by combining satellite data (MODIS) and observed PT parameter (ϕ) retrieved by FLUXNET surface energy balance (SEB) fluxes. The results…

A remark on infinite initial values for quasilinear parabolic equations

2020

Abstract We study the possibility of prescribing infinite initial values for solutions of the Evolutionary p -Laplace Equation in the fast diffusion case p > 2 . This expository note has been extracted from our previous work. When infinite values are prescribed on the whole initial surface, such solutions can exist only if the domain is a space–time cylinder.

Apatodemus degiulii n. gen. et sp. (Rodentia, Muridae), a hitherto undescribed endemite from the Terre Rosse of Gargano (Late Miocene, Southeastern I…

2016

The taxonomy of the murid that had been ascribed to the genus Apodemus from the late Miocene insular faunal assemblages of Gargano (Southeastern Italy) is revised. Morphological and odontometric analyses of important new dental characters were undertaken. Our investigations revealed substantial morphological differences from Apodemus. The rodent is therefore assigned to a new genus and species, Apatodemus degiulii. The new species is characterised by a combination of advanced and primitive characters: moderately brachyodont teeth, t7 present in all M1–2s, elongated and distally located t1 in M1, t1 often twinned in M1–2, and narrow labial cingulid in lower molars associated to a well-develo…

Domain-specific and general future orientation of high school students in Latvia under socioeconomic changes

2013

Šio tyrimo tikslas – palyginti Latvijos paauglių bendrąją ateities orientaciją ir ateities orientacijas specifinėse gyvenimo sferose gyvenant santykinai ekonomiškai stabiliu ir ekonominės krizės laikotarpiu. Remiantis suvokimo lygio teorija, tikimasi, kad ateities orientacijos konkrečiose srityse labiau skirsis esant skirtingoms ekonominėms sąlygoms nei asmens bendroji ateities orientacija. Metodika. Tyrimas atliktas 2004 ir 2010 metais vidurinėse mokyklose. Dvi tiriamųjų grupes sudarė 530 mokinių nuo 17 iki 19 metų. P. G. Zimbardo laiko perspektyvos bei Vilčių ir baimių klausimynai latvių kalba buvo pateikti etninės daugumos atstovams, rusų kalba – etnolingvistinės mažumos atstovams. Tyrim…

Atomic-scale magnetic domain walls in quasi-one-dimensional Fe nanostripes.

2001

Fe nanostripes on W(110) are investigated by Kerr magnetometry and spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy (SP-STM). An Arrhenius law is observed for the temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility indicating a one-dimensional magnetic behavior. The activation energy for creating antiparallel spin blocks indicates extremely narrow domain walls with a width on a length scale of the lattice constant. This is confirmed by imaging the domain wall by SP-STM. This information allows the quantification of the exchange stiffness and the anisotropy constant.

Thermodynamics of the Interaction between the Spike Protein of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 and the Receptor of Human Angiotensin-…

2020

Since the end of 2019, the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has caused more than 1000000 deaths all over the world and still lacks a medical treatment despite the attention of the whole scientific community. Human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) was recently recognized as the transmembrane protein that serves as the point of entry of SARS-CoV-2 into cells, thus constituting the first biomolecular event leading to COVID-19 disease. Here, by means of a state-of-the-art computational approach, we propose a rational evaluation of the molecular mechanisms behind the formation of the protein complex. Moreover, the free energy of binding between ACE2 and the active receptor binding domain of the SARS…

Stereotype threat and lift effects on perceived ability and motor task performance of high school physical education students: the moderating role of…

2016

This study investigated the effects of stereotype threat and lift on perceived ability and motor task performance, and tested the moderating effects of stereotype endorsement and domain identification. One hundred and twenty French high school students were randomly assigned to control, stereotype threat, or stereotype lift conditions, in a 3 (condition) × 2 (sex) study design. The results revealed a stereotype lift effect on boys’ performance moderated by domain identification and a stereotype threat effect on girls’ perceived ability moderated by domain identification and stereotype endorsement. Perceived ability did not mediate the effects of stereotype threat and lift on performance. Th…

New circuital models of grounding systems and PDS for EMI analysis during a lightning strike

2005

In this paper circuital models of a Power Drive System (PDS) and of grounding systems are proposed in order to analyse Electromagnetic Interferences (EMI) induced in a PDS when a lightning current flows in the grounding system. The models have been developed adopting the network approach with lumped parameters and have been implemented using the software MATLAB. A High Frequency (HF) model suitable to simulate the impulse response of a PDS is described and a generalized method in order to calculate the lumped parameters values of grounding system models is presented. The new method takes into account the burial depth of electrodes as regards their length. The validation results of this new …

Robust estimation of mean electricity consumption curves by sampling for small areas in presence of missing values

2017

In this thesis, we address the problem of robust estimation of mean or total electricity consumption curves by sampling in a finite population for the entire population and for small areas. We are also interested in estimating mean curves by sampling in presence of partially missing trajectories.Indeed, many studies carried out in the French electricity company EDF, for marketing or power grid management purposes, are based on the analysis of mean or total electricity consumption curves at a fine time scale, for different groups of clients sharing some common characteristics.Because of privacy issues and financial costs, it is not possible to measure the electricity consumption curve of eac…
