Evaluation of strain in GaN/AlN quantum dots by means of resonant Raman scattering: the effect of capping

2007

We have studied in detail changes in the strain state of GaN/AlN quantum dots during the capping process. μ-Raman scattering experiments allowed the detection of a resonant mode which provided information on the evolution of strain with capping. Simultaneously, Multiwavelength Anomalous Diffraction (MAD) and Diffraction Anomalous Fine Structure (DAFS) experiments were performed on the same samples, providing the independent determination of the wurtzite lattice parameters a and c. The remarkable agreement between Raman and X-ray data stands out the suitability of polar vibrational modes for the determination of strain in nanostructures. (© 2007 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. II–VI and II1−xMnxVI semiconductor nanocrystals formed by the pressure cycle method

2005

II–VI and II1−x Mn x VI nanocrystals were prepared by the pressure cycle method using the Paris–Edinburgh cell. The recovered samples are nanocrystals in the cubic phase zinc-blend (ZB) structure and were characterized using transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering. Transmission electron micrographs show that these nanocrystals are nearly spherical with diameters ranging from 20 to 50 nm depending on the sample under investigation. The Raman scattering measurements confirm the existence of II–VI nanocrystals in the cubic phase (ZB). The magnetic properties of Cd0.5Mn0.5Te nanoparticles were found to vary with the particle size and were d…

Digital Texts for Learning Finnish: Shared Resources and Emerging Practices

2013

Recent studies in the field of new literacies have indicated that a remarkable change in the way we access, consume, and produce information has taken place. The boundaries between concepts such as authorship and ownership have become blurred. This paper will deal with using digital texts in teaching reading comprehension on a university-level course with a special focus on Finnish as a second language. Furthermore, the benefits and challenges of teaching L2 reading comprehension in a multimodal learning environment will be discussed. The three main perspectives utilized are meaningfulness, sharing, and adaptivity. The students attending the course described in the paper were advanced unive…

Mode of action of Bacillus thuringiensis PS86Q3 strain in hymenopteran forest pests

2001

The mode of action of Cry toxins has been described principally in lepidopteran insects as a multistep process. In this work we describe the mode of action of a Cry toxin active in the common pine sawfly Diprion pini (Hymenoptera, Diprionidae), considered a major forest pest in Europe. Strain PS86Q3 contains a long bipyramidal crystal composed of five major proteins. The N-terminal sequence shows that the 155 kDa protein corresponds to Cry5B toxin and the other proteins belong to the Cry5A subgroup. PCR analysis indicates the presence of cry5Ac and cry5Ba genes, suggesting that Cry5A protein should be Cry5Ac. Activation of protoxins with trypsin or with midgut content from D. pini and Cepha…

Convergence-theoretic characterizations of compactness

2002

AbstractFundamental variants of compactness are characterized in terms of concretely reflective convergence subcategories: topologies, pretopologies, paratopologies, hypotopologies and pseudotopologies. Hyperquotient maps (perfect, quasi-perfect, adherent and closed) and quotient maps (quotient, hereditarily quotient, countably biquotient, biquotient, and almost open) are characterized in terms of various degrees of compactness of their fiber relations, and of sundry relaxations of inverse continuity.

Yliopistouudistuksen diskursiivinen rakentuminen Jyväskylän yliopistoyhteisössä 2009-2010

2012
