The origin of fluorescence in carbon dots (C-dots) is still a puzzling phenomenon. The emission is, in most of the cases, due to molecular fluorophores formed in situ during the synthesis. The carbonization during C-dots processing does not allow, however, a fine control of the properties and makes finding the source of the fluorescence a challenging task. In this work, we present a strategy to embed a pre-formed fluorescent molecule, safranin O dye, into an amorphous carbonaceous dot obtained by citric acid carbonization. his study examined the relationship between trait emotional intelligence (EI) and variation in psychological (positive affect: PA, negative affect: NA) and psychophysiological (salivary alpha-amylase: sAA) indicators among Japanese employees over 3 consecutive days (working day 1, non-working day, working day 2). The analyses revealed that higher trait EI was associated across the days with higher PA, but not with NA. Moreover, diurnal sAA levels were lower in the high trait EI group than in the low trait EI group on the intervening non-working day, and this difference between the EI groups continued to show a tendency to significance on working day 2. Nonlinear Absorption and Refraction of Picosecond and Femtosecond Pulses in HgTe Quantum Dot Films

We report measurements of the saturated intensities, saturable absorption, and nonlinear refraction in 70-nm thick films containing 4 nm HgTe quantum dots. We demonstrate strong nonlinear refraction and saturable absorption in the thin films using tunable picosecond and femtosecond pulses. Studies were carried out using tunable laser pulses in the range of 400–1100 nm. A significant variation of the nonlinear refraction along this spectral range was demonstrated. SCOPO DEL LAVORO Presentiamo un caso di una paziente di 24 anni che giunge alla nostra attenzione per la comparsa di disartria come quadro clinico d’esordio di una forma aggressiva di malattia demielinizzante di cui si valuta l’atipica evoluzione neuroradiologica delle lesioni pseudotumorali che la caratterizzano e le possibili diagnosi differenziali. Il saggio esamina il monumento funebre del prelato milanese Guidotto d’Abbiate che guidò l’arcidiocesi di Messina dal 1304 sino al 1333. L’Arcivescovo, che commissionò l’opera nel 1326 allo scultore senese Goro di Gregorio, si dedicò al progetto “di abbellimento” della Cattedrale della Città dello Stretto dove è custodito il monumento. A quest’ultimo manufatto potrebbe appartenere la Madonna con il Bambino, detta degli Storpi, ora custodita nel Museo Regionale Interdisciplinare di Messina. Toxicity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to benthic organisms is a major concern. The use of AgNPs in industry and consumer products leads to increasing release of AgNPs into the aquatic environment—sediments being the major sink. Effects of sediment pH on the toxicity of AgNPs to benthic oligochaeta Lumbriculus variegatus were studied in a 23‐d toxicity test. Artificially prepared sediments (pH 5 and 7) were spiked with varying concentrations of uncoated AgNP, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)‐coated AgNP, and silver nitrate (AgNO3) as dissolved Ag reference. Ar Er3+ un Yb3+ aktivētu savienojumu uz Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3 bāzes, luminiscences intensitātes modulācija ar elektrisko lauku

Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3 tiek pētīts kā perspektīvs materiāls svinu saturošu segnetoelektrisko materiālu aizvietošanai, pateicoties tā strukturālajām izmaiņām temperatūras vai elektriskā lauka ietekmē, to var izmantot ar elektrisko lauku vadāmās ierīcēs. Darbā tika pētīta ar Er3+ un Yb3 aktivētu Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 cieto šķīdumu augšup pārveidotās luminiscences intensitātes modulācija, un raksturoti tās iespējamie mehānismi. Paraugu sintēzei, apstrādei, raksturošanai un luminiscences intensitātes modulācijas eksperimentiem tika izmantotas LU Cietvielu fizikas institūtā pieejamās iekārtas.
