Design of EMI Filters Using Multi-Objective Optimization

2018

A multi-objective design procedure for EMI filters in power converters is proposed. In a first step, the results obtained by an automatic design of EMI filters for power electronic converters oriented to satisfy the electromagnetic compatibility standards and the power density constraint which impose the minimization of the filter volume and/or weight, are evaluated. In a second step, the power losses and the cost related to the EMI filter configurations are estimated. By using the dominance concept, the EMI filter designs which are part of the Pareto front are selected among a discrete set of feasible configurations. Therefore, the configurations of the Pareto front take into consideration…

Flexible Data Driven Inventory Management with Interactive Multiobjective Lot Size Optimization

2021

We study data-driven decision support and formalise a path from data to decision making. We focus on lot sizing in inventory management with stochastic demand and propose an interactive multi-objective optimisation approach. We forecast demand with a Bayesian model, which is based on sales data. After identifying relevant objectives relying on the demand model, we formulate an optimisation problem to determine lot sizes for multiple future time periods. Our approach combines different interactive multi-objective optimisation methods for finding the best balance among the objectives. For that, a decision maker with substance knowledge directs the solution process with one’s preference inform…

On Dealing with Uncertainties from Kriging Models in Offline Data-Driven Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization

2019

Many works on surrogate-assisted evolutionary multiobjective optimization have been devoted to problems where function evaluations are time-consuming (e.g., based on simulations). In many real-life optimization problems, mathematical or simulation models are not always available and, instead, we only have data from experiments, measurements or sensors. In such cases, optimization is to be performed on surrogate models built on the data available. The main challenge there is to fit an accurate surrogate model and to obtain meaningful solutions. We apply Kriging as a surrogate model and utilize corresponding uncertainty information in different ways during the optimization process. We discuss…

Determinants of performance drivers in online food delivery platforms: a dynamic performance management perspective

2022

PurposeThis study aims to demonstrate that the Dynamic Performance Management (DPM) framework, integrating performance management with system dynamics modelling, enables decision-makers to identify sustainable strategies in online food delivery platforms, thereby avoiding company failure.Design/methodology/approachThis study undertakes a multistep methodological approach. After the literature review, a retrospective case study approach was used. To build the DPM framework and the system dynamics simulation model, primary and secondary data were collected and analysed.FindingsThis study by adopting the DPM perspective highlights the critical role performance drivers play to assess the viabil…

High-pressure polymorphs of TbVO4: A Raman and ab initio study

2013

Raman measurements on TbVO4 show the occurrence of three pressure-induced phase transitions. The first one, an irreversible transition from the zircon to the scheelite structure, occurs beyond 6.7 GPa. In addition, two reversible transformations take place at 26.7 and 34.4 GPa. The last transition was never reported before. The experimental findings are supported by structural and lattice-dynamics calculations that helped us to identify the post-scheelite phase as a monoclinic fergusonite structure. According to the calculations, the third transition involves a symmetry increase. An orthorhombic structure is proposed for the phase found above 34.4 GPa. The results have been compared with pr…

The Animal Subject. Explorations on the Edge of Subjectivity

2021

Despite their undeniable connection to the body and its physiological processes, the phenomenological account of drives differentiates them from both instinctual behaviour and merely biological forces. They design a characteristic dimension of the personal grasp of the world, necessary for our meaningful orientation in all given situations. My claim is that Husserl’s interpretation of drives presents them not as centrifugal forces, but as centripetal strivings, contributing to the unitary constitution of the person. The conflicting interaction of drives lets emerge the animal subjectivity whose unity is given by a unique style of wishing and striving. The final question is, therefore, how t…

A General Computational Approach for Magnetohydrodynamic Flows Using the CFX Code: Buoyant Flow through a Vertical Square Channel

2000

The buoyancy-driven magnetoconvection in the cross section of an infinitely long vertical square duct is investigated numerically using the CFX code package. The implementation of a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) problem in CFX is discussed, with particular reference to the Lorentz forces and the electric potential boundary conditions for arbitrary electrical conductivity of the walls. The method proposed is general and applies to arbitrary geometries with an arbitrary orientation of the magnetic field. Results for fully developed flow under various thermal boundary conditions are compared with asymptotic analytical solutions. The comparison shows that the asymptotic analysis is confirmed for hi…

Fully Developed Mixed Magnetohydrodynamic Convection in a Vertical Square Duct

2008

The fully developed flow of an electrically conducting, internally heated fluid in a vertical square duct under the influence of buoyancy and magnetohydrodynamic forces is studied. The flow being parallel, the governing equations are two-dimensional and linear; an analytical solution exists for temperature, while velocity and electric potential are computed by a finite difference technique under different electric boundary conditions, forced to natural convection intensity ratios and values of the magnetic induction. Limiting values of pressure gradient and mean velocity are determined for the flow to be unidirectional throughout the duct's section; recirculation occurs for intermediate val…

Experimental evidence of E × B plasma rotation in a 2.45 GHz hydrogen discharge

2015

An experimental observation of a rotating plasma structure in a 2.45 GHz microwave-driven hydrogen discharge is reported. The rotation is presumably produced by E × B drift. The formation of the rotating plasma structure is sensitive to the strength of the off-resonance static magnetic field. The rotation frequency is on the order of 10 kHz and is affected by the neutral gas pressure and applied microwave power.
