Mechatronic Design of a Four-Wheel drive mobile robot and differential steering
2021
This paper presents, the development of an autonomous mobile robot with a four-wheel drive and differential locomotion. The mobile robot was developed in the Machines and Industrial Equipment Department from the Engineering Faculty of Sibiu. The main purpose of developing this type of mobile platform was the ability to transport different types of cargo either in industrial spaces or on rough terrain. Another important objective was that this platform could be driven in confined or tight spaces where a high degree of manoeuvrability is necessary. The great advantage of this type of mobile platform is the ability to navigate through narrow spaces due to the type of locomotion implemented. Th…
Psychosocial Work Factors, Job Stress and Strain at the Wheel: Validation of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ) in Professional Drive…
2019
Introduction: Psychosocial work environment has been related to many negative health outcomes in different workforces. However, evidence in this regard is still limited in the case of transport workers, and most of the tools used in research, often excessively generic, do not fully consider the specific key stressors and adverse issues present in the psychosocial environment of professional driving. Objective: Thus, the purpose of this study was to obtain a complete description of the validation of measurement applied to psychosocial factors at work in professional drivers, using the Enterprise version (2018) of COPSOQ-III. Methods: The data was collected from 726 Spanish professional drive…
Application of Ge Nanowire for Two-Input Bistable Nanoelectromechanical Switch
2013
Recently, several research groups presented bistable two-terminal nanoelectromechanical switches based on individual single-clamped active element. All presented devices had one input electrode. Similar devices having two or more input electrodes have not been yet investigated. In this work we present the two-input bistable controlled nanoelectromechanical switch based on an individual single-clamped Ge nanowire. The switch is realised using in-situ SEM technique and operating due to balancing of electrostatic, adhesion and elastic forces. The operation conditions of the device are investigated and presented. The advantages and drawbacks of the device are discussed. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/1…
Amantadine in the Treatment of Sexual Inactivity in Schizophrenia Patients Taking Atypical Antipsychotics—The Pilot Case Series Study
2021
Sexual dysfunctions in people with schizophrenia are more severe than in the general population and are an important element in the treatment of schizophrenia. The mechanism of sexual dysfunction in patients treated for schizophrenia may be related to the side effects of antipsychotic drugs (hyperprolactinemia, suppression of the reward system), but it may also be related to the pathogenesis of schizophrenia itself. The aim of the study was to present the possibility of using amantadine in the treatment of sexual dysfunction in schizophrenia without the concomitant hyperprolactinemia. In an open and naturalistic case series study, five men treated for schizophrenia in a stable mental state …
Design, Synthesis and Characterization of a Visible-Light-Sensitive Molecular Switch and Its PEGylation Towards a Self-Assembling Molecule.
2022
HBDI-like chromophores represent a novel set of biomimetic switches mimicking the fluorophore of the green fluorescent protein that are currently studied with the hope to expand the molecular switch/motor toolbox. However, until now members capable of absorbing visible light in their neutral (i. e. non-anionic) form have not been reported. In this contribution we report the preparation of an HBDI-like chromophore based on a 3-phenylbenzofulvene scaffold capable of absorbing blue light and photoisomerizing on the picosecond timescale. More specifically, we show that double-bond photoisomerization occurs in both the E-to-Z and Z-to-E directions and that these can be controlled by irradiating …
Transformative direction of R&D– lessons from Amazon's endeavor
2019
Amazon jumped up to the world's top Research and Development (R&D) firm in 2017. Such a rapid and notable increase in R&D investment has raised the question of a new R&D definition in the digital economy, which Amazon insists includes both “routine or periodic alterations” (traditionally classified as non-R&D) and “significant improvement” (classified as R&D), as Amazon transforms the former into the latter during its R&D process. A convincing answer to this question will give rise to insightful suggestions regarding a new concept of R&D in the digital economy. peerReviewed
PURSUING A CUSTOMER-DRIVEN APPROACH FOR INNOVATION AND MARKETING EXCELLENCE
2011
Nowadays, innovation goes so much further than merely products. In order to thrive in this extremely competitive business environment a company needs to innovate its technologies, its business strategies, its business models, and by innovating in research. It is also about reinventing or building new markets in order to meet, satisfy and delight untapped consumer needs, wants, and desires. However, considering the new opportunities and threats that Internet, globalization, and hypercompetition have on an organization’s activity regarding selecting and executing the right ideas, right products, and delivering them through the right channels in record time, at the right prices, while promotin…
Implicit regulation for automotive variators
2001
A well-known practice uses mechanical variators to realize the so-called continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) for automotive application. A remarkable problem for one of the most used CVTs is given by the hydraulic control of the axial thrust on the half-pulleys that is necessary for torque transmission. It involves a heavy decrease in transmission efficiency. In the present paper, the possible production of the required axial thrust by a simple spring to eliminate hydraulic losses is analysed. It is shown that the power capacity of such a regulated variator is near to the maximum possible, and the belt torque loss is always considerably lower than the sum of the belt and pump losses…
To Move or Not to Move. That is the question.
2011
International audience; In the same way that scientists have to "Publish or perish!", medical students, residents and young doctors in France have to "Move or perish!". "La mobilité" (professional mobility) has become a key word in French medical circles. Thus, in 2003, a group of English teachers at the Dijon School of Medicine and at ENS-Lettres et Sciences Humaines (Lyon) conducted a mobility-related needs assessment to identify how we could help young professionals prepare for their stay abroad in English-speaking environments. To assess the actual needs of French professionals, we first contacted a cardiovascular surgeon, Eric Steinmetz, who had spent one year as a research fellow in S…
