A sentence based system for measuring syntax complexity using a recurrent deep neural network

2018

In this paper we present a deep neural network model capable of inducing the rules that identify the syntax complexity of an Italian sentence. Our system, beyond the ability of choosing if a sentence needs of simplification, gives a score that represent the confidence of the model during the process of decision making which could be representative of the sentence complexity. Experiments have been carried out on one public corpus created specifically for the problem of text-simplification.

A recurrent deep neural network model to measure sentence complexity for the Italian Language

2019

Text simplification (TS) is a natural language processing task devoted to the modification of a text in such a way that the grammar and structure of the phrases is greatly simplified, preserving the underlying meaning and information contents. In this paper we give a contribution to the TS field presenting a deep neural network model able to detect the complexity of italian sentences. In particular, the system gives a score to an input text that identifies the confidence level during the decision making process and that could be interpreted as a measure of the sentence complexity. Experiments have been carried out on one public corpus of Italian texts created specifically for the task of TS…

Witnessing non-Markovian effects of quantum processes through Hilbert-Schmidt speed

2020

Non-Markovian effects can speed up the dynamics of quantum systems while the limits of the evolution time can be derived by quantifiers of quantum statistical speed. We introduce a witness for characterizing the non-Markovianity of quantum evolutions through the Hilbert-Schmidt speed (HSS), which is a special type of quantum statistical speed. This witness has the advantage of not requiring diagonalization of evolved density matrix. Its sensitivity is investigated by considering several paradigmatic instances of open quantum systems, such as one qubit subject to phase-covariant noise and Pauli channel, two independent qubits locally interacting with leaky cavities, V-type and $\Lambda $-typ…

Impact of abutment geometry on early implant marginal bone loss. A double‐blind, randomized, 6‐month clinical trial

2022

Objectives The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of the abutment width on early marginal bone loss (MBL). Material and Methods A balanced, randomized, double-blind clinical trial with two parallel experimental arms was conducted without a control group. The arms were “cylindrical” abutment and “concave” abutment. Eighty hexagonal internal connection implants, each with a diameter of 4 × 10 mm, were placed in healed mature bone. The main variable was the peri-implant tissue stability, which was measured as MBL at 8 weeks and 6 months. Results The final sample consisted of 77 implants that were placed in 25 patients. 38 (49.4%) were placed using the cylindrical abutment, and t…

Arch width changes in patients with Class II division 1 malocclusion treated with maxillary first premolar extraction and non-extraction method

2016

Background The aim of this study was to determine arch width changes during maxillary first premolars extraction and non-extraction treatment in patients with Class II division 1 malocclusion. Material and methods Dental casts of 91 Class II division 1 patients (36 males and 55 females) were evaluated. The minimum age of the subjects at the beginning of treatment was above 16 years. 48 patients were treated with extraction of the maxillary first premolars and 43 patients were treated without extraction. Pre- and post-treatment maxillary and mandibular inter-canine and inter-molar arch widths were measured. Results At the end of treatment, maxillary and mandibular inter-canine widths of both…

Extracting Formal Models from Normative Texts

2016

Normative texts are documents based on the deontic notions of obligation, permission, and prohibition. Our goal is model such texts using the C-O Diagram formalism, making them amenable to formal analysis, in particular verifying that a text satisfies properties concerning causality of actions and timing constraints. We present an experimental, semi-automatic aid to bridge the gap between a normative text and its formal representation. Our approach uses dependency trees combined with our own rules and heuristics for extracting the relevant components. The resulting tabular data can then be converted into a C-O Diagram.

Collisional Broadening of Rotational Lines in the Stimulated Raman Pentad Q-Branch of CD4

1992

Self- and argon-broadening coefficients are reported for a number of Raman Q-branch transitions in the nu(1) and nu(2) + nu(4) bands of (C-12)D4 at room temperature (296 K). The coefficients display a variation with j and with C exp n (symmetry species A, E, F) that is essentially independent of collision partner and which is similar to the j- and C exp n-dependence found in previous measurements of the IR line-broadening coefficients. The rotationally inelastic collision rates previously measured by Foy et al. (1988) for (C-13)D4 (V4 = 0, 1) in collision with (C-13)D4 or Ar account for only a part of the Raman broadening rate, suggesting possibly significant contributions to the linewidths…

In-group favouritism and out-group derogation towards national groups: Age-related differences among Italian school children

2013

Abstract Recently many researchers investigated intergroup attitudes among children, but only few studies analyzed developmental pathways of in-group favouritism and out-group derogation in considerable samples across broad age ranges. The present study aims at examining age-related differences in in-group favouritism and out-group derogation towards national groups among Italian children. Six hundred-seven children (305 males, 302 females), aged 6–12 living in Italy, were asked to answer an individual interview, making various evaluations of the national in-group and of 2 salient national out-groups (German and English). For research purposes 3 measures were used: number of positive traits…

GW170817: Implications for the Stochastic Gravitational-Wave Background from Compact Binary Coalescences

2018

The LIGO Scientific and Virgo Collaborations have announced the first detection of gravitational waves from the coalescence of two neutron stars. The merger rate of binary neutron stars estimated from this event suggests that distant, unresolvable binary neutron stars create a significant astrophysical stochastic gravitational-wave background. The binary neutron star background will add to the background from binary black holes, increasing the amplitude of the total astrophysical background relative to previous expectations. In the Advanced LIGO-Virgo frequency band most sensitive to stochastic backgrounds (near 25 Hz), we predict a total astrophysical background with amplitude $\Omega_{\rm…
