Satisfied or Frustrated? A Qualitative Analysis of Need Satisfying and Need Frustrating Experiences of Engaging With Digital Health Technology in Chr…

2020

Introduction: Digital health technologies such as self-monitoring devices and apps are becoming increasingly important as tools to promote healthy habits and support individuals in their self-care. There is still a scarcity of research that builds on motivational theory to better understand the functioning of digital health technologies. The self-determination theory (SDT) is a macro theory of motivation that delineates three basic psychological needs that are linked to different types of motivation and lead to well-being when satisfied and illbeing when frustrated. Objective: To explore how the use of a digital tool for self-monitoring and communication with healthcare satisfies or frustra…

Adaptive Contention Resolution for VoIP Services in the IEEE 802.16 Networks

2007

In the IEEE 802.16 networks, a subscriber station can use the contention slots to send bandwidth requests to the base station. The contention resolution mechanism is controlled by the backoff start/end values and a number of the request transmission opportunities. These parameters are set by the base station and are announced to subscriber stations in the management messages. In the case of the VoIP services, it is critical that the contention resolution occurs within the specified time interval to meet the VoIP QoS requirements. Thus, it is the responsibility of the base station to set correct contention resolution parameters to ensure the QoS requirements. This paper presents analytical c…

Adaptive contention resolution parameters for the IEEE 802.16 networks

2007

In the IEEE 802.16 networks, the base station allocates resources to subscriber stations based on their QoS requirements and bandwidth request sizes. A subscriber station can send a bandwidth request when it has an uplink grant allocated by the base station or by taking part in the contention resolution mechanism. This paper presents analytical calculations for parameters that control the contention resolution process in the IEEE 802.16 networks. In particular, the backoff start/end values and the number of request transmission opportunities are considered. The simulation results confirm the correctness of theoretical calculations. They also reveal that the adaptive parameter tuning results…

Temperature dependence of the E2h phonon mode of wurtzite GaN/AlN quantum dots

2008

Raman scattering has been used to study the temperature dependence of the frequency and linewidth of the E2h phonon mode of GaN/AlN quantum dot stacks grown on 6H-SiC. The evolution of the nonpolar phonon mode was analyzed in the temperature range from 80 to 655 K for both quantum dots and barrier materials. The experimental results are interpreted by comparison with a model that takes into account symmetric phonon decay and the different thermal expansions of the constituents of the heterostructure. We find a small increase in the anharmonic parameters of the phonon modes in the heterostructure with respect to bulk. jorbumar@alumni.uv.es Alberto.Garcia@uv.es Ana.Cros@uv.es

Open formats and interfaces for exchange of public information

2003

Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2003 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad Electronic reporting is an important part of all national eGovernment initiatives. XML4DR is a standard based on XML, proposed by a consortium funded by the European Commission. An application used for reporting from municipalities to central government has been developed by Comfact AB. A platform independent application will allow each municipality to freely chose tools such as browser, text processor and operating system. A platform independent application will rely on either open standards or a set of vendor specific pieces of code for the deviation form the standard. In this thesis I have evaluat…

Carbon Nanotubes Dispersion Assessment in Nanocomposites by Means of a Pulsed Thermographic Approach

2020

The extensive production of polymer composites reinforced by carbon nanotube is limited by the absence of non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methods capable of assessing product quality to guarantee compliance with specifications. It is well known that the level of dispersion of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in the polymer matrix is the parameter that, much more than others, can influence their enhancement capabilities. Here an active Infrared Thermography Non Destructive Testing(IR-NDT) inspection, joined with pulsed phase thermography (PPT), were applied for the first time to epoxy-CNT composites to evaluate the level of dispersion of the nanoparticles. The PPT approach was tested on three groups…

Coping with pandemics using social network sites: A psychological detachment perspective to COVID-19 stressors

2022

Prior research has often portrayed information technology (IT) as a stressor. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate that IT can also be an effective means of coping with life stressors, including those induced by pandemics such as COVID-19. We thus deviate from the common IT-as-a-stressor perspective and adopt an IT-as-a-coping-mechanism viewpoint. To this end, we apply the stressor-detachment model from organisational psychology to the use of social network sites (SNSs) in coping with stressors wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic. We examine psychological well-being as our dependant variable and introduce psychological detachment through SNS use as a mediator and moderator of the associat…

Universality of Schmidt decomposition and particle identity

2017

Schmidt decomposition is a widely employed tool of quantum theory which plays a key role for distinguishable particles in scenarios such as entanglement characterization, theory of measurement and state purification. Yet, it is held not to exist for identical particles, an open problem forbidding its application to analyze such many-body quantum systems. Here we prove, using a newly developed approach, that the Schmidt decomposition exists for identical particles and is thus universal. We find that it is affected by single-particle measurement localization and state overlap. We study paradigmatic two-particle systems where identical qubits and qutrits are located in the same place or in sep…
