Real-time acquisition of wideband signals data using non-uniform sampling
2009
Wideband signal acquisition often faces a problem of bulk data recording. It is a critical factor in real-time systems. The paper discusses an approach that deals with this problem incorporating Digital Alias-free Signal Processing and Virtual Instrumentation technologies. Such combination is advantageous for real-time applications and useful in the development of measurement and software defined radio systems. Non-uniform sampling technique allows considerably decrease the data of wideband signals so, that they can be transferred in real-time to a typical PC through high-speed PCI Express communication interface. The experimental prototype system has been developed and obtained results are…
High power analysis and design of dual-mode channel filters
2009
In this paper, we present two dual-mode channel filter topologies which are able to withstand more than 600 W in Ku-Band. The two different designs (one with elliptical cavities and the other one with rectangular cavities) implement the same transfer function: four order, elliptical response centered in 12 GHz, with 40 MHz bandwidth and two transmission zeros. It is shown that the critical dimensions for the power-handling of these filters are the dimensions of the input-output irises. In fact, in order to rigorously obtain these conclusions and to reach these high-power levels (including margins), it is essential to use the advanced numerical techniques described in the paper to predict th…
Multipactor Effect Characterization of Dielectric Materials for Space Applications
2018
[EN] The objective of this paper is to advance the state of the art in the characterization of the multipactor effect in dielectric materials. The materials studied are the most commonly used dielectrics in space applications, namely, Alumina, Rexolite, Rogers RT5870, Rohacell, Teflon, and Ultem 1000. In this paper, a new family of coaxial waveguide components, covering the L- and S-bands, with a wideband, low-pass response has been designed, and six different prototypes have been specifically optimized and manufactured. The six prototypes have then been used to simulate and measure the multipactor breakdown susceptibility charts for the six dielectric materials investigated. Finally, the s…
LaCoDa: Layered connected topology for massive data centers
2017
One of the fundamental challenges of existing data centers is to design a network that interconnects massive number of servers, and therefore providing an efficient and fault-tolerant routing service to upper-layer applications. Several solutions have been proposed (e.g. FatTree, DCell and BCube), however they either scale too fast (i.e., double exponentially) or too slow. This paper proposes a new data center topology, called LaCoDa, that combines the advantages of previous topologies while avoiding their limitations. LaCoDa uses a small node degree that matches physical restriction for servers, and it also interconnects a large number of servers while reducing the wiring complexity and wi…
Bandwidth Resource Management for Neural Signal Telemetry
2009
Recent advances in modern neurocomputing have shown the utmost necessity of wireless communication systems that allow real-time (RT) monitoring of neural signals meeting several requirements such as source compression and high fidelity of the received signal. Neural recordings require multielectrode probes with up to hundreds of electrodes and transmission of signals wirelessly over a limited bandwidth (BW). In this paper, a RT resource management algorithm is proposed so that adequate source compression is applied to each channel in order to fit them into the available BW. Performance of the algorithm is analyzed using dynamically changing BW and neural recordings with different neural act…
Half-sandwich Mo(III) complexes with asymmetric diazadiene ligands
2006
The asymmetric 1,4-diazadiene ligands R ∗ N CHCH NR ∗ [R ∗ = ( S )-CH(CH 3 )Ph], R 2 ∗ dad , and 2,2′-bis(4-ethyloxazoline), as-ox, have been used to generate half-sandwich Mo III derivatives by addition to Cp 2 Mo 2 Cl 4 . Ligand R 2 ∗ dad affords a mononuclear, paramagnetic 17-electron product, CpMoCl 2 ( R 2 ∗ dad ) , whereas as-ox leads to the isolation of a dinuclear compound where only one molecule of ligand has been added per two Mo atoms, Cp 2 Mo 2 Cl 4 (as-ox). In the presence of free as-ox, this compound coexists with the paramagnetic mononuclear complex in solution. Both products are capable of controlling the radical polymerization of styrene under typical atom transfer radical…
HF Noise Measurements Based on Software Defined Radio Dual Receiver and Two Orthogonal Inverted Vee Antennas
2020
Increasing the data transfer rate in the High Frequency (HF) range involves enlarging the bandwidth of the channel from the standard value of 3 kHz to values of 6, 12, 24, 48 and even 96 kHz. Real-time evaluation of the noise power in the channel under such conditions is essential. This paper aims to implement an automated system for real-time measurement of noise in the HF range. It is composed of two Software Defined Radio (SDR) synchronized receivers and two orthogonal Inverted Vee antennas. Testing the system demonstrates its ability to distinguish between noise and signals generated as a result of human activity. Preliminary results of measurements performed in an urban location are co…
Indentation of rigidly supported sandwich beams with foam cores exhibiting non-linear compressive behaviour.
2011
A generalized analytical approach to investigate the indentation of sandwich beams under concentrated loads is presented, based on the Winkler foundation theory. A segment-wise model is implemented to the case of fully backed sandwich beams with polymeric foam cores exhibiting generic non-linear compressive behaviours. Closed-form analytical solutions of the indentation curve are obtained for simplified foam compression behaviours: elastic-perfectly-plastic, bilinear and bilinear-perfectly-plastic. Analytical predictions are compared with experimental data from sandwiches employing foam cores with peculiar non-linear behaviours. The proposed models are found to give a better match of the e…
Design of large scale sensors in 180 nm CMOS process modified for radiation tolerance
2019
International audience; The last couple of years have seen the development of Depleted Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (DMAPS) fabricated with a process modification to increase the radiation tolerance. Two large scale prototypes, Monopix with a column drain synchronous readout, and MALTA with a novel asynchronous architecture, have been fully tested and characterized both in the laboratory and in test beams. This showed that certain aspects have to be improved such as charge collection after irradiation and the output data rate. Some improvements resulting from extensive TCAD simulations were verified on a small test chip, Mini-MALTA. A detailed cluster analysis, using data from laboratory…
