DIAGNOSIS-RELATED GROUP ANALYSIS AND STRATEGIC HEALTHCARE BUDGETING
2011
The term Diagnosis-Related Group DRG) refers to a classification system used to assess hospital services with the aim of streamling health care costs and improving performance. The DRG system focuses on the utilization of resources, and is not concerned with the specific type of care provided to the patient. This system highlights any diseconomies and eventual critical aspects of the hospital system. This article examines the variables used to correctly evaluate hospital performance based on the DRG system. These include: Average length of Stay, Average Daily Patients Load, Comparative Performance Index and Case Mix Index.
Las representaciones del saber académico: Aportaciones desde la Geografía Escolar
2019
When we talk with basic education´s teachers there is an impression in the case of learning Social Sciences, and Geography in particular that these sciences are not useful for the explanation of socio-environmental and daily problems. In this research, improvement proposals are sought so that students are motivated to learn about these problems. Based on two case studies such as flood risks (and their relationship with climate change) and the problems of the rural areas, the possibilities of combining motivation for learning close to personal emotions and with their own rigor have been explored of the conceptual explanation. To validate these results, quantitative and qualitative research t…
Perceptions and Attitudes of Students of Teacher-training towards Environment and Sustainability
2014
Abstract This paper report on a questionnaire survey at three Universities of the Comunidad Valenciana,Spain, on the current baseline situation in order to introduce sustainability across university's curricula. The objective data enabled us to know the situation of students in relation to introduce sustainability in both Early Childhood Education Teacher Degree and Primary Education Teacher Degree. A total of 922 students answered the survey. A majority of respondents were not aware of the impact of their daily activities on the environment. With regard to the introduction of sustainability in teaching, the majority of students said that it is an appropriate measure.
Flexibly Scheduled Early Childhood Education and Care: Finnish Mothers’ and Educators’ Perceptions on Young Children’s Experiences and Child-Responsi…
2018
The study explores Finnish mothers' and educators' perceptions on young children's experiences and child-responsive practices related to flexibly-scheduled early childhood education and care (ECEC). Data were gathered by ethnography-based interviews with mothers and educators of oneto three-year-old children attending this form of ECEC and qualitatively analysed using the method of inductive content analysis. According to the interviewees, young children experienced a multitude of feelings related to flexibly-scheduled ECEC, ranging from the undesirable, such as strain, distress and confusion, to the desirable, such as comfort, satisfaction and understanding. The children's feelings were as…
Determinants of COVID-19 Vaccine Rollouts and Their Effects on Health Outcomes
2022
Background Vaccination against the coronavirus disease (SARS-CoV-2) is understood to be the key way out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Limited evidence exists on the determinants of vaccine rollouts and their health effects at the country level. Objective Examine the determinants of COVID-19 vaccine rollouts and their effects on health outcomes. Methods Ordinary least squares regressions with standard errors clustered at the country level for Cross-section and Panel daily data of vaccinations and various health outcomes (new COVID-19 cases, fatalities, intensive care unit (ICU) admissions) for an unbalanced sample of about 200 countries during the period 16 December 2020 to 20 June 2021. Results…
Ausbildung am Ultraschallsimulator – Analyse der größten simulatorbasierten Fortbildung in Deutschland
2010
Teaching ultrasound (US) has not been sufficiently standardised yet. Most educational devices in US consist of 2-dimensional B-mode images. However, the identification of anatomic structures in the 3-dimensional space can only be learned by practical hands-on education. In US simulators, US images of real pathologies are created by the examination of a dummy with a mock transducer. The resulting US images were previously recorded in a 3-dimensional format and were processed in a way which facilitates the reconstruction and projection of the images on a screen corresponding to the sectional plane of the mock transducer, simulating the conventional B-mode images. This enables standardised, re…
Biomonitoring of glyphosate and AMPA in the urine of Spanish lactating mothers
2021
The objectives of this study were to evaluate the urinary levels of Glyphosate (Gly) and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) in Spanish breastfeeding mothers (n = 97), to identify the main predictors of exposure and to perform a risk assessment. Urine samples were analyzed using a method based on solid phase extraction and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) determination. The developed method showed limits of quantification of 0.1 μg/L for both analytes. The detection frequencies (DFs) were 54% for Gly and 60% for AMPA, with geometric means (GMs) of 0.12 μg/L and 0.14 μg/L, respectively. In the statistical analysis, no relationship was found between the u…
Biomonitoring of parabens in human milk and estimated daily intake for breastfed infants
2020
In this study, we assessed the presence of four parabens in human milk of 120 mothers from Valencia (Spain) which took part in a human biomonitoring project (BETTERMILK). The detection frequency ranges of parabens were 41-60% and 61-89% for unconjugated- and total (unconjugated + conjugated)-parabens, respectively. The concentrations ranged from <LoQ to 31 ng/mL and from <LoQ to 49 ng/mL for unconjugated- and total-parabens, respectively. The frequency of use of some cosmetic products and human milk protein levels were the main predictors of parabens in milk. The study evidences the presence of both conjugated and unconjugated paraben forms in human milk. The newborns estimated daily intake…
Ecological Sampling Methods for Studying Everyday Situations
2017
This chapter reviews existing and emerging methodologies for the ambulatory assessment of real-world situations. It distinguishes between first-person/subjective and third-person/objective approaches and provides research examples for each reviewed ecological assessment method. The chapter opens with a discussion of why it is important to assess situations directly in daily life. The following two main sections review approaches for (a) the first-person assessment of real-world situation experiences and perceptions, such as experience sampling and daily diary approaches, and (b) the third-person assessment of objective real-world situation cues, such as naturalistic observation and mobile s…
