Identification of stiffness, dissipation and input parameters of multi degree of freedom civil systems under unmeasured base excitations
2009
A time domain dynamic identification technique based on a statistical moment approach has been formulated for civil systems under base random excitations in the linear state. This technique is based on the use of classically damped models characterized by a mass proportional damping. By applying the Itô stochastic calculus, special algebraic equations that depend on the statistical moments of the response can be obtained. These equations can be used for the dynamic identification of the mechanical parameters that define the structural model, in the case of unmeasured input as well, and the identification of the input itself. Furthermore, the above equations demonstrate the possibility of id…
An output-only stochastic parametric approach for the identification of linear and nonlinear structures under random base excitations: Advances and c…
2014
In this paper a time domain output-only Dynamic Identification approach for Civil Structures (DICS) first formulated some years ago is reviewed and presented in a more generalized form. The approach in question, suitable for multi- and single-degrees-of-freedom systems, is based on the statistical moments and on the correlation functions of the response to base random excitations. The solving equations are obtained by applying the Itô differential stochastic calculus to some functions of the response. In the previous version ([21] Cavaleri, 2006; [22] Benfratello et al., 2009), the DICS method was based on the use of two classes of models (Restricted Potential Models and Linear Mass Proport…
Anomalous thermoelastic behavior of (KI)1-x(NH4I)x
1990
Abstract An anomalous softening of the shear mode c 44 is observed in (KI) 1- x (NH 4 I) x with Brillouin scattering (10 K ⩽ T ⩽ 300 K ). It is caused by the weak quadrupolar moment of the NH 4 + ion, induced by the C 3 v symmetry of the potential. A parallel decrease of the lifetime of this transverse phonon at lower temperatures is observed. Static random strain fields due to admixing KI with NH 4 I are small. The results have been treated in terms of a mean field theory. The c 11 elastic constant does not show any anomalous behavior. Also are given the elastic constants c 11 and c 44 for x =0.14, 0.43 and 1 and 1 at T = 300 K and 10 K .
mplicit Identification of Contact Parameters in a Continuous Chain Model
2011
Accurate contact modeling is of great importance in the field of dynamic chain simulations. In this paper emphasis is on contact dynamics for a time-domain simulation model of large chains guided in a closed loop track. The chain model is based on theory for unconstrained rigid multibody dynamics where contact within the chain and with the track is defined through continuous point contacts using the contact indentation and rate as means. This paper presents an implicit method to determine contact parameters of the chain model through the use of none gradient optimization methods. The set of model parameters are estimated by minimizing the residual between simulated and measured results. The…
Power System Oscillations with Different Prevalence of Grid-Following and Grid-Forming Converters
2022
The oscillatory behaviour of the power system is an aspect that is significantly affected by the increasing integration of converter-based generation sources. Several works address the impact of non-synchronous generation on the operation of the system from different points of view, but only a few studies focus on power-frequency oscillations with a prevalence of generation sources interfaced through power electronics. A lack of research can be found in particular in the comparative analysis of the two main control strategies for power converters, namely grid-following and grid-forming. The article aims to contribute to this direction, starting from a theoretical analysis of the two control…
Load frequency regulation using observer based non-linear sliding mode control
2019
Abstract In this paper, the generalized extended state observer (GESO) and non-linear sliding mode control (SMC) are merged together to study the frequency deviation problem in multi-area power system. In study, the GESO is used not only for state and disturbance estimation but also for disturbance rejection of the system. The said observer ensures accurate estimation of the actual states leading to convergence of estimation error to zero. The non-linear SMC is used to increase the damping ratio of the system whenever, any perturbations occurs. The proposed observer based controller is compared with an existing two-layer active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) and also validated on larg…
Global Non-monotonicity of Solutions to Nonlinear Second-Order Differential Equations
2018
We study behavior of solutions to two classes of nonlinear second-order differential equations with a damping term. Sufficient conditions for the first derivative of a solution x(t) to change sign at least once in a given interval (in a given infinite sequence of intervals) are provided. These conditions imply global non-monotone behavior of solutions.
Gilbert damping of CoFe-alloys
2019
We report structural, magnetic and dynamic properties of polycrystalline Coalt;subagt;xalt;/subagt;Fealt;subagt;1-xalt;/subagt;-alloy films on Sapphire, Silicon and MgO substrates across the full composition range, by using a Vector Network Analyser ferromagnetic resonance measurement technique (VNA-FMR), Superconducting Quantum Interference Device magnetometry (SQUID) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). In the approximate vicinity of 28% Co, we observe a minimum of the damping parameter, associated with a reduction in the density of states to a minimum value at the Fermi energy level. For films on all substrates, we find magnetic damping of the order of 4-5⋅10alt;supagt;-3alt;/supagt;, showing th…
Damping effect on the ITER vacuum vessel displacements during slow downward locked and rotating asymmetric vertical displacement events
2018
Abstract In this paper, we present the electromechanical coupled analysis of the ITER vacuum vessel in case of slow downward locked and rotating Asymmetric VDEs. The numerical model for simulating the AVDE includes the asymmetric distribution of the halo currents obtained by a suitable 3D kink perturbation of a slow VDE downward computed by the 2D code DINA. In the case of a rotational AVDE, the rotation frequency of the kink asymmetry has been chosen to be ω = 2π × 5 rad/s. The model includes the mesh of the main passive components facing the plasma. The whole torus (360 degrees) has been discretized. It is shown that the very high complexity of the numerical model can be suitably treated.…
Stochastic seismic analysis of MDOF structures with nonlinear viscous dampers
2009
Fluid damper devices in civil structures such as buildings or bridges are commonly used as energy absorbers for seismic protection. The problem in the response analysis of structures with filled dampers mainly consists in the fact that, due to the strongly nonlinear behavior of such equipments, the response spectrum (RS) technique fails. In this paper by using the concept of power spectral density function compatible with the elastic RS and the statistical linearization technique, the equivalent damping ratio is obtained. It is shown that once the system is linearized, results obtained by Monte Carlo simulation and those obtained by stochastic analysis are in good agreement. Copyright © 200…
