A set of indices to assess the real performance of daylight-linked control systems
2017
Abstract The installation of Building Automation Control Systems (BACs) in general is an effective action to achieve relevant energy savings. Commercial BACs, installed in residential or small offices, often include functions of lighting control, acting as Daylight-Linked Control Systems (DLCSs). Nevertheless, because system performance is strictly dependent on different parameters, BAC’s hardware and software configuration and as well as an inaccurate commissioning do not always allow a perfect execution of the desired tasks; therefore, the system could not work as expected. Moreover, it is well known that energy saving potential is specifically related to the variability of the light envi…
Energy and environmental benefits in public buildings as a result of retrofit actions
2011
Abstract The paper presents the results of an energy and environmental assessment of a set of retrofit actions implemented in the framework of the EU Project “BRITA in PuBs” (Bringing Retrofit Innovation to Application in Public Buildings – no: TREN/04/FP6EN/S07.31038/503135). Outcomes arise from a life cycle approach focused on the following issues: (i) construction materials and components used during retrofits; (ii) main components of conventional and renewable energy systems; (iii) impacts related to the building construction, for the different elements and the whole building. The results are presented according to the data format of the Environmental Product Declaration. Synthetic indi…
Control for Networked Control Systems with Time Delays and Packet Dropouts
2013
This paper is concerned with the control issue for a class of networked control systems (NCSs) with packet dropouts and time-varying delays. Firstly, the addressed NCS is modeled as a Markovian discrete-time switched system with two subsystems; by using the average dwell time method, a sufficient condition is obtained for the mean square exponential stability of the closed-loop NCS with a desired disturbance attenuation level. Then, the desired controller is obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Springback evaluation in fully 3-D sheet metal forming processes
1997
Abstract In the modern manufacturing industries the knowledge and proper control of the sheet metal springback after forming is a fundamental aspect in the achievement of near net shape stamped parts. In this paper an effective springback prediction in some fully three-dimensional stamping processes is carried out. Such a prediction is based on a combined approach in which an explicit finite element code has been employed to simulate the forming phase while a traditional implicit procedure has been used to analyse the springback phase. The results obtained have been compared with a set of experimental tests and an excellent correlation between the predicted and experimental data has been fo…
H∞ control for two-dimensional Markovian jump systems with state-delays and defective mode information
2013
This paper investigates the problem ofℋ∞state-feedback control for a class of two-dimensional (2D) discrete-time Markovian jump linear time-delay systems with defective mode information. The mathematical model of the 2D system is established based on the well-known Fornasini-Marchesini local state-space model, and the defective mode information simultaneously consists of the exactly known, partially unknown, and uncertain transition probabilities. By carefully analyzing the features of the transition probability matrices, together with the convexification of uncertain domains, a newℋ∞performance analysis criterion for the underlying system is firstly derived, and then theℋ∞state-feedback co…
THE METAMODEL: A STARTING POINT FOR DESIGN PROCESSES CONSTRUCTION
2010
The construction of ad-hoc design processes following the Situational Method Engineering (SME) paradigm is currently carried out by adopting a set of phases for which, until now, no well defined techniques and guidelines have been established. The consequence is that organizations are very dependent on method designers' skills. In this paper, we propose an approach based on SME for constructing customized agent oriented design processes. Our approach adopts the metamodel as the most important factor leading to the selection and assembly of method fragments and an algorithm for establishing the instantiation order of metamodel elements. The algorithm makes the proposed approach repeatable a…
A PC-based wattmeter for high accuracy power measurements
2010
This paper proposes the use of a commercial data acquisition board (DAQ) connected to a common personal computer for high accuracy power measurements. In the paper the set up of the PC-based wattmeter is described and an experimental evaluation of its metrological performances is made by means of the comparison with a simultaneous coherent digital sampling wattmeter realized with two high-precision DMMs Hewlett Packard Model 3458 A. In both cases the power source is a Fluke 6100A/E electrical power standard. © 2010 IEEE.
Real-time weighting optimization in Chinese Postman Problem
2013
International audience; In this study, based on real-time constraint, an optimization method is proposed for solving the problem of the optimal tour. For that, we will construct a graph containing the real-time state of traffic. The collected data will be used to predict the future state traffic and to give an optimized cost of the tour. This optimization is tested in different sizes of the road networks. The results show that the proposed method is efficient and effective in solving the Chinese Postman Problem in real-time.
Optimization methods for complex sheet metal stamping computer aided engineering
2010
Nowadays, sheet metal stamping processes design is not a trivial task due to the complex issues to be taken into account (complex shapes forming, conflicting design goals and so on). Therefore, proper design methodologies to reduce times and costs have to be developed mostly based on computer aided procedures. In this paper, a computer aided approach is proposed with the aim to offer a methodology able to solve very complex sheet metal stamping processes, in particular a progressive design approach based on the integration between numerical simulations and optimization methodologies is presented. In particular, Response Surface Method, Moving Least Squares approximation and Pareto optimal s…
An Effective Multirestart Deterministic Annealing Metaheuristic for the Fleet Size and Mix Vehicle-Routing Problem with Time Windows
2008
This paper presents a new deterministic annealing metaheuristic for the fleet size and mix vehicle-routing problem with time windows. The objective is to service, at minimal total cost, a set of customers within their time windows by a heterogeneous capacitated vehicle fleet. First, we motivate and define the problem. We then give a mathematical formulation of the most studied variant in the literature in the form of a mixed-integer linear program. We also suggest an industrially relevant, alternative definition that leads to a linear mixed-integer formulation. The suggested metaheuristic solution method solves both problem variants and comprises three phases. In Phase 1, high-quality init…
