X(3872) and its charmonium content in Heavy Quark limit

2016

X (3872) still presents many puzzles more than a decade after its discovery. Some of its properties, like the isospin violating decays, can easily be accommodated in a molecular model, whereas its other properties, such as radiative decays can be more naturally explained in the quarkonium picture. The best of these schemes can be combined in a picture of X (3872) where it is dominantly a molecular state with some charmonium components. In this work, we present a model based on heavy quark symmetry which describes X (3872) as a superposition of molecular and charmonium components.

Thermalization efficiency of superconducting absorbers for thermal X-ray microcalorimeters

2004

The persistence of long living quasiparticles created in the energy thermalization process can affect the performances of a thermal X-ray microcalorimeter with superconducting absorber. Numerical simulations indicate that in an ab- sorber made of high-purity Sn, operated at temperatures lower than 100 mK, up to 60% of the deposited energy can remain trapped in the quasiparticle system for a time much longer than the time scale of the thermal sensor response, producing a reduction of the SNR of the detector. Other pure superconductors can present the same problem and therefore a microscopic analysis of the physical properties can be useful to identify suitable absorbing materials and optimiz…

Dissipative solitons and their interactions

2007

Coupled soliton pairs in nonlinear dissipative systems can exist in various forms. They can be stationary, or they can pulsate periodically, quasi-periodically or chaotically, as is the case for single solitons. Each type is stable in the sense that a given bound state exists in the same form inde.nitely. Single solitons can be perfectly stable for a given set of parameters. However, this does not mean that a bound state formed from them is either stationary or stable. Moreover, their relations can be highly complicated. Such is the life of dissipative solitons. Dipole soliton-vortices

2007

On universal symmetry grounds, we analyze the existence of a new type of discrete-symmetry vortex solitons that can be considered as coherent states of dipole solitons carrying a nonzero topological charge. Remarkably, they can be also interpreted as excited angular Bloch states. The stability of new soliton states is elucidated numerically.

Bifurcations and multiple-period soliton pulsations in a passively mode-locked fiber laser

2004

The multiple-period pulsations of the soliton parameters in a passively mode-locked fiber laser were discussed numerically and experimentally. It was found that the pulse acquired a periodic evolution that was not related to the round-trip time and consisted of many round trips. The macroperiodicity existed independently or in combination with other periodicity such as period doubling, tripling etc. Analysis shows that the new periods in the soliton modulation appear at bifurcation point related to certain points related to certain values of the cavity parameters.

Side-lobe suppression in electro-optic pulse generation

2007

A simple method is presented for rejecting undesirable tails and wings, around the main pulses of a periodic train, which is generated by electro-optical, sinusoidal phase modulation. It is shown that, by using a broadband optical carrier, the nonlinear chirp components generated by sinusoidal phase modulation can be filtered out. Thus, nearly apodised picosecond pulsation can be generated.

The design and implementation of Neuma, a collaborative Digital Scores Library - Requirements, architecture, and models

2012

This paper presents the design and implementation of the Neuma platform, a digital library devoted to the preservation and dissemination of symbolic music content (scores). Neuma is open to musicologists, musicians, and music publishers. It consists of a repository dedicated to the storage of large collections of digital scores, where users/applications can upload their documents. It also proposes services to publish, annotate, query, transform, and analyze scores. The long-term goal of the project is to enable an open and collaborative space where musician communities will be able to share music in symbolic notation. The project is organized around the French IRPMF institute (BnF–CNRS) whi…

Pointwise Inequalities for Sobolev Functions on Outward Cuspidal Domains

2019

Abstract We show that the 1st-order Sobolev spaces $W^{1,p}(\Omega _\psi ),$$1<p\leq \infty ,$ on cuspidal symmetric domains $\Omega _\psi $ can be characterized via pointwise inequalities. In particular, they coincide with the Hajłasz–Sobolev spaces $M^{1,p}(\Omega _\psi )$.

International student mobility in Southern-Latin Europe: beyond the EU logics, towards a new space

2018

This paper discusses international student mobility (ISM) in Southern-Latin Europe, specifically Italy, Portugal, and Spain, analysing the inflow of international students as reflected in the UNESCO, OECD and European Commission databases. Only recently Italy, Portugal and Spain, as latecomers, have become more actively involved in ISM dynamics. This trend has been a response to EU pressures to internationalization, instrumented through the consolidation of the Bologna process and the need to build a common space of higher education. The analysis shows that at the intra-European level Italy, Portugal and Spain share similar ISM patterns; however, in the global context other logics shape ISM…
