Ironic Effects of Thought Suppression: A Meta-Analysis.
2020
The ironic effect of thought suppression refers to the phenomenon in which individuals trying to rid their mind of a target thought ironically experience greater levels of occurrence and accessibility of the thought compared with individuals who deliberately concentrate on the thought (Wegner, 1994, doi:10.1037/0033-295X.101.1.34). Ironic effects occurring after thought suppression, also known as rebound effects, were consistently detected by previous meta-analyses. However, ironic effects that occur during thought suppression, also known as immediate enhancement effects, were found to be largely absent. In this meta-analysis, we test Wegner’s original proposition that detection of immedia…
Expression of yeast but not human apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease renders Chinese hamster cells more resistant to DNA damaging agents.
1997
Abasic sites represent ubiquitous DNA lesions that arise spontaneously or are induced by DNA-damaging agents. They block DNA replication and are considered to be cytotoxic and mutagenic. The key enzymes involved in the repair of abasic sites are apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) endonucleases which process these lesions in an error-free mechanism. To analyze the role of AP endonuclease in the protection of mammalian cells against DNA damaging agents, we have transfected both the human (APE) and the yeast (APN1) AP endonuclease in Chinese hamster cells and compared the effects of expression of these genes in stable transfectants as to survival of cells and formation of chromosomal aberrations. Alth…
Lipid and fatty acid variations inCiona intestinalis ovary after tri-n-butyltin(IV)chloride exposure
2005
Reduction of total lipids (TL) content and significant variations of triglyceride (TG) and phospholipid (PL) fractions were observed as a consequence of exposure of Ciona intestinalis ovaries to tributyltin chloride (TBTCL) solutions. In particular, an evident TG decrease and a PL increase were observed, which probably provoked an increment in membrane fluidity, because of the high concentration of long chain fatty acids and, as a consequence, PL. This could be a cell adaptive standing mechanism towards the pollutants, as observed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Also the increase in the content of the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), important in the synthesis of compounds such as prostagla…
Rôle de la Dynamique Membranaire dans la Mise en Place des Mécanismes de Défense chez le Tabac
2011
Cryptogein, a protein secreted by the oomycete Phytophthora cryptogea, induces defense mechanisms in tobacco. Several proteins involved in the associated signaling pathway were identified and localized on the plasma membrane (PM). A fraction resistant to solubilization by detergent named DIMs for Detergent Insoluble Membranes, enriched in sterols an sphigolipids had been isolated from tobacco PM. It was proved to contain proteins previously identified as actors of the signaling cascade triggered by cryptogein. In animal cells, the dynamic association of proteins to sterol and sphingolipid rich microdomains under the influence of a biological stimulus plays an essential role in the regulatio…
Il defense mechanisms inventory
2015
Orthorexic tendencies and healthy eating in university students: which association with eating disorders, psychopathology, and defense mechanisms?
2021
Orthorexic tendencies and healthy eating in university students: which association with eating disorders, psychopathology, and defense mechanisms? higher in some immature defenses (passive aggression and somatization) than healthy-eating individuals, while no differences were found in mature and neurotic defense styles. Conclusions. These results support the existence of significant differences between ON and other (non-problematic) healthy eating behaviors.
Psychoanalytically-Oriented Inpatient Psychotherapy of Somatoform Disorders
2008
Somatoform disorders have been neglected in psychoanalytic publications. Unlike the descriptive approach of DSM-IV and ICD-10, sophisticated psychoanalytical models have been proposed for many years explaining the development of physical symptoms without definable medical cause. Based on a review of the psychoanalytic models of somatization and conversion, this article explores difficulties in the medical and psychotherapeutic treatments of somatoform disorders. The unique tradition of psychosomatic inpatient treatment in Germany is illustrated by the psychoanalytic treatment setting at the University of Mainz. A case report of a somatoform patient shows how childhood trauma is activated an…
Could emotional processing influence pain perception and quality of life in chronic kidney disease and hemodialyzed patients?
2017
Background and Objectives: The incidence of chronic pain is 11-24% in general population, whereas it affects 50% of hemodialyzed subjects and is often secondary to comorbidities, CKD-related complications and certain clinical procedures. Consequently, a better approach in evaluating pain as a “symptom” and in managing it adequately is required for these patients. Methods: 33% of the 300 patients enrolled properly consigned the questionnaires. The mean age of dialyzed patients was 52.2±11.2 years, whereas 54.9±10.7 years was the mean age for CKD patients. Moreover, 53 healthy subjects, ages 20-65, have been included in the study as control group. Specific psycho-diagnostic tests were adminis…
Oblicza przemocy w dyskursie nauki, publicystyki oraz w doświadczeniach ofiar
2019
W artykule przedstawiam jeden rodzaj przemocy – przemoc w rodzinie i jej konsekwencje.
