Vector π pulse soliton in coherent optical amplifiers

We found a novel type of vector soliton pulse in a medium with linear loss and nonlinear gain from the coherent resonant interaction of light with two-level atoms exhibiting a degenerate upper state.

Analysis of a Parabolic Cross-Diffusion Semiconductor Model with Electron-Hole Scattering

The global-in-time existence of non-negative solutions to a parabolic strongly coupled system with mixed Dirichlet–Neumann boundary conditions is shown. The system describes the time evolution of the electron and hole densities in a semiconductor when electron-hole scattering is taken into account. The parabolic equations are coupled to the Poisson equation for the electrostatic potential. Written in the quasi-Fermi potential variables, the diffusion matrix of the parabolic system contains strong cross-diffusion terms and is only positive semi-definite such that the problem is formally of degenerate type. Superbeams plus neutrino factory: The golden path to leptonic CP violation

Superbeams (SB) and Neutrino Factories (NF) are not alternative facilities for exploring neutrino oscillation physics, but successive steps. The correct strategy is to contemplate the combination of their expected physics results. We show its important potential on the disappearance of fake degenerate solutions in the simultaneous measurement of $\theta_{13}$ and leptonic CP violation. Intrinsic, sign($\Delta m_{13}^2$) and $\theta_{23}$ degeneracies are shown to be extensively eliminated when the results from one NF baseline and a SB facility are combined. Pattern formation driven by cross–diffusion in a 2D domain

Abstract In this work we investigate the process of pattern formation in a two dimensional domain for a reaction–diffusion system with nonlinear diffusion terms and the competitive Lotka–Volterra kinetics. The linear stability analysis shows that cross-diffusion, through Turing bifurcation, is the key mechanism for the formation of spatial patterns. We show that the bifurcation can be regular, degenerate non-resonant and resonant. We use multiple scales expansions to derive the amplitude equations appropriate for each case and show that the system supports patterns like rolls, squares, mixed-mode patterns, supersquares, and hexagonal patterns.

A Generalized Synthesis of 3-Amino-5-aryl-, 3-Amino-5-polyfluorophenyl-, and 3-Amino-5-alkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles through Ring-degenerate Rearrangements

A generalized synthesis of 3-amino-5-aryl-, 3-amino-5-poly- fluorophenyl- and 3-amino-5-alkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles has been developed starting from the 3-amino-5-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole as a common synthon. Aroylation or alkanoylation of this aminooxadiazole, followed by thermally- induced ring-degenerate equilibration of resulting 3-acylamino compounds, and final acid hydrolysis of the 3-acetylamino-5-aryl- (or 5-polyfluorophenyl-), or 3- acetylamino-5-alkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles counterpart which is formed, gave the expected 3-amino-5-substituted 1,2,4-oxadiazoles. We consider the effects of impurities on topological insulators and superconductors. We start by identifying the general conditions under which the eigenenergies of an arbitrary Hamiltonian H belonging to one of the Altland-Zirnbauer symmetry classes undergo a robust zero energy crossing as a function of an external parameter which can be, for example, the impurity strength. We define a generalized root of \det H, and use it to predict or rule out robust zero-energy crossings in all symmetry classes. On the photoelectron spectrum ofp-benzoquinone

A high-resolution photoelectron spectrum of p-benzoquinone in the low energy (9.5–11.5 eV) region is reported and analyzed with the aid of simulations based on high-level ab initio calculations. The results generally support the notion that the two prominent spectral features in this region are each due to a pair of final ion states. The lower energy feature beginning near 10 eV is due to oxygen lone-pair ionizations, while that beginning near 11 eV comes from π electron removal. Jet-cooled FTIR spectroscopy and analysis of the C–O stretch fundamental of Ni(CO)4

Rovibrational spectra of the C–O stretch band (ν5) of Ni(CO)4 have been recorded at 0.006 cm− 1 resolution by coupling a low pressure continuous supersonic jet with a high resolution interferometer. The spectrum has been analysed thanks to the STDS software (see http://icb.u-bourgogne.fr/OMR/SMA/SHTDS/) that implements the tensorial formalism developed in the Dijon group for tetrahedral molecules. We obtain a very satisfying simulation thanks to an effective Hamiltonian expanded up to order 3. The asymmetry of the high-J lines is due to a small tetrahedral splitting and is well reproduced. Abstract We present a development of the Hamiltonian and transition moment operators of XY3Z ( C 3 v ) symmetric tops molecules in a degenerate electronic state with the aid of a tensorial formalism developed in a recent paper [A. El Hilali, V. Boudon, M. Loete, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 239 (2006) 41–50]. Electronic operators are defined from group theory properties. They provide a new approach to build an effective rovibronic Hamiltonian as well as an effective dipole moment operator for rovibronic transition of XY3Z molecules.
