Involvement of protein kinase Cdelta in contact-dependent inhibition of growth in human and murine fibroblasts.

There is evidence that protein kinase C delta (PKCdelta) is a tumor suppressor, although its physiological role has not been elucidated so far. Since important anti-proliferative signals are mediated by cell-cell contacts we studied whether PKCdelta is involved in contact-dependent inhibition of growth in human (FH109) and murine (NIH3T3) fibroblasts. Cell-cell contacts were imitated by the addition of glutardialdehyde-fixed cells to sparsely seeded fibroblasts. Downregulation of the PKC isoforms alpha, delta, epsilon, and mu after prolonged treatment with 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA, 0.1 microM) resulted in a significant release from contact-inhibition in FH109 cells. In the present study, the chronic cumulative exposure to organophosphorus (OPs), carbamates (CBs) and pyrethroid and pyrethrin (PPs) pesticides in the region of Valencia through fruit and vegetables consumption is presented. A total of 752 samples and 84 pesticides were studied of which, 52 were OPs, 23 CBs and 9 PPs. Residue data were derived from the Valencia Region monitoring program 2007-2011 and food consumption levels from a questionnaire-based dietary survey conducted in 2010 in the same area. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) DNA synthesis is initiated in an intact cell system by a 36-residue ribonucleotide stretch [W.E.G. Müller, R.K. Zahn, J. Arendes, and D. Falke (1979) Virology, 98, 200-210]. In the present study a nucleoplasmic fraction was isolated from rabbit kidney cells infected with HSV (type 1), which catalyzes DNA synthesis. By means of specific assays, containing single-stranded deoxyribopolymers, it was elucidated that the replication complex contains both an RNA-synthesizing and a DNA-synthesizing enzyme. Stability of genetic regulatory networks with time-varying delay: Delta operator method

This paper investigates the stability problem for a class of uncertain genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with time-varying delay via delta operator approach. Both the parameter uncertainty and the generalized activations are considered in the model under study. By constructing an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, the stability and robust stability conditions of GRNs are presented under the delta operator frame. These conditions can be expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is employed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Similarity Solutions and Collapse in the Attractive Gross-Pitaevskii Equation

We analyse a generalised Gross-Pitaevskii equation involving a paraboloidal trap potential in $D$ space dimensions and generalised to a nonlinearity of order $2n+1$. For {\em attractive} coupling constants collapse of the particle density occurs for $Dn\ge 2$ and typically to a $\delta$-function centered at the origin of the trap. By introducing a new dynamical variable for the spherically symmetric solutions we show that all such solutions are self-similar close to the center of the trap. Primary identities in the lower Omo valley: migration, cataclysm, conflict and amalgamation, 1750–1910

This article applies the notion of primary identity to explore the emergence of ethnic identities in the southern-most tract of the lower Omo valley. Current identities here are the result of two correlated patterns of movement that have occurred over the past 150 years: migration to the valley by organised pastoralists and scattered groups, and a general movement down the river and into the Omo delta, where the ecological niche generated by the regular flooding of the Omo River provided a rich variety of livelihood alternatives.
