The roles of achievement-related behaviours and parental beliefs in children´s mathematical performance

This study aimed to investigate the developmental dynamics between children's mathematical performance, the task-focused versus task-avoidant behaviours they show in the classroom, and their parents' beliefs concerning their school competence. The mathematical performance of 111 six- to seven-year-old children was tested, and their task-focused versus task-avoidant behaviours were rated by their teachers four times during their first school year. Parents filled in questionnaires measuring their skill-specific and general beliefs about their children's school competencies at the beginning and at the end of the school year. This study examined talk by parents about the early years transitions of their children (n = 7) in the context of parental non-standard working hours and Finnish early childhood education and care (ECEC) services. Parents were interviewed at three time points: when their child was aged one, four, five or six years (a total of 21 interviews). The third interview was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tämä osaraportti esittelee Jyväskylän yliopiston yhteistyössä Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitoksen (THL) kanssa toteuttaman Varhaiskasvatus ja koronapandemia -hankkeen kyselytutkimuksen perusteella noin viisivuotiaiden lasten hoito- ja varhaiskasvatusjärjestelyitä vuoden 2020 aikana. Hanketta rahoittaa Jyväskylän yliopiston osalta Opetus ja kulttuuriministeriö. THL:n osalta rahoitus perustuu lisämäärärahaan, jonka eduskunta myönsi THL:lle koronaepidemian yhteiskunnallisten vaikutusten tutkimukseen. Abstract To understand how variation in warning displays evolves and is maintained, we need to understand not only how perceivers of these traits select color and toxicity but also the sources of the genetic and phenotypic variation exposed to selection by them. We studied these aspects in the wood tiger moth Arctia plantaginis, which has two locally co-occurring male color morphs in Europe: yellow and white. When threatened, both morphs produce defensive secretions from their abdomen and from thoracic glands. Pyrus pedrottiana (Rosaceae), a new species from the Nebrodi Mountains (N-E Sicily)

A new species of Pyrus for the dendroflora of Sicily is here described. It is Pyrus pedrottiana, actually considered endemic to the Nebrodi Mountains, a territory which includes the largest wooded area of the island with a high forest biodiversity.In the same area, P. vallis-demonis and P. ciancioi have also been described in recent times. The authors report diagnostic characters to distinguish the new taxon from the other two sympatric species.

As lymphatic microsurgery has become more common, vascularized lymph node transfer ascended to the forefront in many centers for the surgical management of advanced stages of lymphedema showing substantial clinical improvement. However, no consensus has been reached among experts regarding many details of the procedures, including patient selection criteria, type of treatment, donor, and recipient sites and postoperative evaluation of the outcome. Here, we will review these issues and provide the current results of this procedure.

<i>Background and Aim:</i> To investigate the role of vascular risk factors in different subtypes of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in a multicentric, clinic-based, cross-sectional study. <i>Methods:</i> Two-hundred and seven subjects with MCI were included in the study: 33 with single non-memory MCI (snmMCI), 42 with multiple-domain amnestic MCI (mdMCI-a) and 132 with amnestic MCI (aMCI). Hankkeen tavoitteena oli selvittää toimintaympäristön muutosten vaikutuksia kansalaistoimintaan ja tehdä suosituksia siitä, miten kansalaisyhteiskuntaa voidaan tukea. Yhdistystoiminnan asema Suomessa on säilynyt vahvana, mutta yksityisen ja julkisen sektorin toimintalogiikat ovat alkaneet yhä enemmän ohjata kansalaistoimijoita. Keskitetty johtaminen ja “asiakasajattelu” ovat lisääntyneet järjestöissä ja ne ovat ammattimaistuneet ja keskittyneet. Vapaaehtoistyöhön ja jäsenmaksuihin pohjaavasta kansalaisyhteiskunnasta on siirrytty rahoituksen osalta kohti mallia, jossa valtio rahoittaa järjestöjä strategisista lähtökohdistaan projektiluontoisesti.
