Increased hippocampal head diffusivity predicts impaired episodic memory performance in early Alzheimer's disease

Recent neuroanatomical and functional neuroimaging studies indicate that the anterior part of the hippocampus, rather than the whole structure, may be specifically involved in episodic memory. In the present work, we examined whether anterior structural measurements are superior to other regional or global measurements in mapping functionally relevant degenerative alterations of the hippocampus in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Amygdala-hippocampal atrophy and memory performance in dementia of Alzheimer type.

The aim of the present study was to examine the involvement of brain structures, especially the amygdala-hippocampal complex, in dementia of Alzheimer type (DAT), and to assess the relation of amygdala-hippocampal atrophy with memory dysfunction. 14 patients with DAT and 10 healthy age-matched controls were examined with different neuropsychologic tests including the UCLA-Auditory Verbal Learning Test. Liver parenchymal cells from the periportal and centrilobular zones differ in their morphological, biochemical and functional characteristics. In an effort to obtain fractions enriched in either periportal or centrilobular cells, isolated rat liver parenchymal cells were separated into five subpopulations by centrifugal elutriation. The mean diameters of the cells present in fractions I-V were 19.6, 21.1, 21.8, 22.7 and 23.5 micron, respectively. Ethoxyquin as an inducer and inhibitor of phenobarbital-type cytochrome P-450 in rat liver microsomes.

Abstract The effect of ethoxyquin in vivo and in vitro on drug metabolism in rat liver microsomes was studied. In feeding experiments, a threshold dose of induction was found at 0.05% ethoxyquin for 14 days. At 0.5% ethoxyquin, relative liver weight, cytochrome P-450 content, cytochrome b5 content, ethylmorphine demethylation, and ethoxycoumarin deethylation were increased by a factor of 1.5 to 2. Aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase activity was, however, not induced but even decreased by 0.5% ethoxyquin in food. The symptom of low mood in the prodromal stage of mild cognitive impairment and dementia: a cohort study of a community dwelling elderly population.

Objective: To investigate the symptom of low mood as a predictor of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and its progression to dementia, taking into account: i) MCI severity, ii) time of assessment, iii) interaction with other factors. Methods: 764 cognitively healthy elderly living in the community, from the Kungsholmen Project. Participants were assessed by direct interview to detect low mood. Subjects were then followed for six years to identify those who developed MCI. People with incident MCI were followed for a further three years to assess progression to dementia.
