The German multi-centre study on smoking-related behavior-description of a population-based case-control study
2011
Tobacco smoking is a major risk factor for most of the diseases leading in mortality. Nicotine dependence (ND), which sustains regular smoking, is now acknowledged to be under substantial genetic control with some environmental contribution. At present, however, genetic studies on ND are mostly conducted in populations that have been poorly characterized with regard to ND-related phenotypes for the simple reason that the respective populations were not primarily collected to study ND. The German multi-centre study 'Genetics of Nicotine Dependence and Neurobiological Phenotypes', which is funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) as part of the Priority …
The impact of mandatory vaccination law in Italy on mmr coverage rates in two of the largest italian regions (Emilia-romagna and sicily): An effectiv…
2020
Background: Vaccine hesitancy has increased worldwide, leading to reduction in vaccination coverage rates. In particular, reduction in the coverage for the trivalent Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine has led to an increase of measles cases. The aim of this study is to analyze the coverage rates for the MMR vaccine in the Emilia-Romagna Region (RER) and Sicily Region (SR) between 2009 and 2018, and to correlate any significant change to index events which could have modified the trend of vaccination rates. Methods: Official aggregate data on vaccination coverage at 24 months provided by the RER and the SR were analyzed through trend analysis and related to important index events. Results: The tw…
La productividad científica en drogodependencias desde las revistas específicas
2011
From general population surveys and specific studies data, an epidemiological description is offered. Since 1994, the year of the fi rst Spanish school survey, until 2008, in all temporal references alcohol use trend was slightly decreasing for both boys and girls, though less for girls that showed somewhat higher prevalences in recent years. Drunkenness prevalence trend among those students drinking alcohol during the last 30 days has increased and was higher for boys. For cannabis and cocaine there was an increasing trend until 2004; trends for ecstasy and hallucinogens were less marked towards lower prevalences in recent years; all of them were higher in boys. Girls had higher prevalence…
Body composition in children and adolescents residing in southern Europe: Prevalence of overweight and obesity according to different international r…
2019
The objective was to analyze body composition in children and adolescents of Southern Europe to identify prevalence of overweight and obesity. This investigation involved 512 girls and 488 boys between 7-to 19-years. Variables evaluated were Body Mass Index (BMI) and Fat Mass (FM; electrical bioimpedance). The references used to establish prevalence according to BMI were those of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF); in the case of FM, the Child Growth Foundation (CGF) reference was used. There were significant differences (p < 0.05) in the prevalence of overweight and obesity between the three classifications (32.3% according to IOTF, 37.3%…
Swimrun: An emerging new endurance sport
2018
International audience; The swimrun is a new endurance team-sport based on two persons swimming and running alternatively through open water and mostly trails. The aim of this study was to analyse participation and performance trends for males, females and mixed duo team at the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun race (10 km open-water swimming and 65 km trail running). During the 2012–2016 period, the mean total time performance of the best athletes at the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun decreased significantly by 17 min/year for males, 40 min/year for mixed and 59 min/year for females duo, respectively. The difference in performance between the best males and females duo (26 ± 15%) was significantly greater compared to the di…
Prevalence of Dental Caries Among 6 - 12 Year Old Schoolchildren in Social Marginated Zones of Valencia, Spain
2019
Background To estimate the prevalence of caries and to study oral health habits (oral hygiene, toothbrushing frequency, cariogenic or no cariogenic diet, visits to dentist) in children aged 6 to 12 with social exclusion risk. Material and Methods A cross sectional study was conducted in a sample of 160 children aged form 6 to 12 years belonging to Colegio Madre Petra in Torrent and Colegio Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados in Nazaret (Valencia). Among other variables DMFT and Greene and Vermilion simplified plaque index were analyzed. Results The prevalence of caries observed was 81.87% and the global DMFT was 4.481. The mean plaque index observed was 1.12. No statistically significant dif…
Změny příhraničních oblastí sousedících se státy Evropské unie
1995
In varietate concordia?! Political parties’ digital political marketing in the 2019 European Parliament election campaign
2021
This article provides the first comprehensive analysis of how parties across 28 countries use digital political marketing on Facebook by drawing on the example of the 2019 European Parliament election. We introduce a theoretical model of political Facebook marketing and compare the paid media activity (sponsored posts, ads) of 186 parties to their owned media (posts) and earned media (user reactions, comments, shares). Our results concerning cross-country patterns indicate that differences in European parties’ paid media activity exist and only a few parties leverage sophisticated targeting strategies. Regarding temporal dynamics, we find that paid media is used to supplement owned media du…

Heterogeneous contributions of change in population distribution of body mass index to change in obesity and underweight
2021
From 1985 to 2016, the prevalence of underweight decreased, and that of obesity and severe obesity increased, in most regions, with significant variation in the magnitude of these changes across regions. We investigated how much change in mean body mass index (BMI) explains changes in the prevalence of underweight, obesity, and severe obesity in different regions using data from 2896 population-based studies with 187 million participants. Changes in the prevalence of underweight and total obesity, and to a lesser extent severe obesity, are largely driven by shifts in the distribution of BMI, with smaller contributions from changes in the shape of the distribution. In East and Southeast Asia…
