Effects of various hygiene procedures on the surface characteristics of titanium abutments.

1996

The use of cleaning instruments on titanium implants may cause undesired surface alterations. In a qualitative and quantitative assessment of these alterations, 5 titanium implant abutments were treated with a steel curet, a prototype pure titanium curet, an air abrasive polishing system, and an ultrasonic system. Custom-made polymer templates, used to secure the curet to a vertical guide bar and a spring scale to maintain a constant instrument pressure, guaranteed a standardized procedure and reproducible results. The ultrasonic and the air abrasive polishing method were also standardized. Evaluation by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed surface alterations for all instruments and…

Peri-implant defect grafting with autogenous bone or bone graft material in immediate implant placement in molar extraction sites-1- to 3-year result…

2020

Objectives To evaluate the survival rate, the orobuccal bone resorption and stability of peri-implant hard and soft tissues following immediate implant placement of wide diameter implants in molar extraction sites and peri-implant defect grafting with autogenous bone (AB) or biphasic bone graft material (BBGM) with 1- to 3-year follow-up examinations. Material and methods Fifty wide diameter implants were placed in 50 patients immediately into molar extraction sockets by a flapless approach. Peri-implant defect augmentation was performed randomized with either AB or BBGM. Primary outcome variable was implant survival. Marginal bone level changes, orobuccal width of the alveolar crest, probi…

Tilted implants for the restoration of posterior mandibles with horizontal atrophy: An alternative treatment

2013

Purpose Horizontal atrophy in the posterior mandible presents serious limitations on conventional implant placement. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of tilted implants angled in a buccolingual direction for restoring atrophic posterior mandibular sectors. Materials and Methods A cohort study was performed of 25 patients who had partial prostheses supported by more than 1 implant (≥1 tilted and 1 axial implant) to restore molar areas in the mandible. When the bone thickness was at least 5 mm, axial implants were placed; when the alveolar ridge was narrower, the implant was placed with tilted angulation. The beds for these tilted implants were prepared using a lingual approa…

Comparison of postoperative morbidity between piezoelectric surgery and conventional rotary instruments in mandibular third molar surgery: a split-mo…

2020

Background The extraction of impacted third molar teeth is a common procedure in maxillofacial surgery. The aim of this study was to compare of piezoelectric surgical technique with the one with conventional rotary instruments in terms of edema, trismus and pain, in mandibular third molar surgery. Material and Methods 20 individuals with symmetrically impacted lower mandibular third molars and 40 teeth were included in the study. Third molars on the left side of each patient were removed with piezosurgery, while the counterparts on the right side were removed with conventional rotary instruments. Postoperatively, the same antibiotic, analgesic, and mouthwash were recommended to both groups.…

Stress distribution of complete-arch implant-supported prostheses reinforced with silica-nylon mesh

2019

Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T01:20:51Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2019-01-01 Background: This study evaluated the presence of a silica-nylon mesh and two cantilever lengths on the biomechanical behavior of complete-arch implant-supported prostheses. Material and Methods: Twenty-four (24) complete mandibular arch implant-supported prostheses were divided into 4 groups according to the presence of reinforcing mesh (with or without) and the cantilever length (molar-15 mm or premolar-5 mm). The specimens were submitted to strain gauge analysis (30-kgf, 10 s) at different points (molar and premolar). Three-dimensional models were created based on the in vitro spec…

The effectiveness of the information‐motivation model and domestic brushing with a hypochlorite‐based formula on peri‐implant mucositis: A randomized…

2021

OBJECTIVE Management of mucositis is essential for the long-term maintenance of dental implants. This study determined the efficacy, in terms of clinical parameters, of an adjunctive domiciliary agent paired with non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) for patients with peri-implant mucositis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients involved in a periodontal maintenance program were randomly distributed to the domestic use of a chlorhexidine toothpaste and mouthwash (control) or a hypochlorite-based formula brushing solution (test) after diagnosis of peri-implant mucositis. A modified approach towards NSPTwas performed after 10 days of domestic use of the assigned maintenance product in both groups.…

Does chlorhexidine improve outcomes in non-surgical management of peri-implant mucositis or peri-implantitis? : a systematic review and meta-analysis

2019

Background With greater number of implants being placed in clinical practice, incidence of peri-implant diseases are on the rise. It is not known whether chlorhexidine (CHX) improves outcomes in the management of peri-implant diseases. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the role of CHX in improving outcomes with non-surgical management of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Material and Methods An electronic search of PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and CENTRAL (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) databases up to 1st August 2019 was carried out to search for studies evaluating the efficacy of CHX for non-surgical management of peri-implant disea…

Aesthetic perception of single implants placed in the anterior zone. A cross-sectional study

2016

Background: Several aesthetic indexes have been described to assess implant aesthetics. The aim of this study was to compare the aesthetic assessment made by dental professionals and students of single-tooth implants placed in the upper incisors. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional survey study using a subjective questionnaire to assess the aesthetics in 3 implant supported single-tooth cases in the anterior maxilla was performed. The interviewed subjects were divided into 4 groups: dentists with experience in implant treatment, dentists without experience in implants and 3rd and 5th year dental students. The questionnaire consisted of 2 visual analogue scales (VAS) to evaluate aestheti…

Stress distribution in fixed mandibular prostheses fabricated by CAD/CAM and conventional techniques: Photoelastic and strain gauge analyses

2019

Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T00:55:27Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2019-09-01 The aim of this study was to evaluate the distribution of stress in complete fixed mandibular prostheses with infrastructures (IE) fabricated with different materials and techniques, under compressive force. A model of an edentulous mandible, which received five 4x11 mm external hexagon implants between the mental foramens, was fabricated. The groups were divided into: Group I - IE in nickel-chromium with an acrylic resin occlusal coating; Group II - IE in nickel-chromium with a ceramic occlusal coating; Group III - IE milled in zirconia with a ceramic coating. For the photoelastic m…

Implant-supported overdenture manufactured using CAD/CAM techniques to achieve horizontal path insertion between the primary and secondary structure:…

2015

This report describes the case of an edentulous patient with an atrophic maxilla and severe class III malocclusion. Prosthetic rehabilitation was performed using CAD/CAM techniques for manufacturing an implant-supported overdenture with horizontal insertion. A vestibulo-lingual insertion overdenture is a precision prosthesis with a fixation system affording a good fit between the primary and secondary structure. Both structures exhibit passive horizontal adjustment. This treatment option requires the same number of implants as implant-supported fixed dentures. The horizontal assembly system prevents the prosthesis from loosening or moving in response to axial and non-axial forces. The techn…
