Performance evaluation of a high resolution dedicated breast PET scanner

Purpose: Early stage breast cancers may not be visible on a whole-body PET scan. To overcome whole-body PET limitations, several dedicated breast positron emission tomography (DbPET) systems have emerged nowadays aiming to improve spatial resolution. In this work the authors evaluate the performance of a high resolution dedicated breast PET scanner (Mammi-PET, Oncovision). Involvement of actin-containing microfilaments in HSV-induced cytopathology and the influence of inhibitors of glycosylation.

Two and a half hours after infection with a high dose of different strains of HSV-1 which induce rounding of cells, breakdown of actin containing microfilaments can be observed. At the periphery of the cell, actin containing knob-like protuberances were visible. Later on, actin seems to be located exclusively on the surface of cells. Observations were done by immunofluorescence microscopy, scanning electron-microscopy and immunoperoxidase staining of ultrathin sections. The envelope of HSV appears to be stained by anti-actin. A cytochemical study on the effects of energy deprivation on autophagocytosis in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells

The effect of energy deprivation on autophagocytosis in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells was studied using cytochemical techniques. Autophagocytosis was induced with vinblastine incubation (0.1 mM) and the cellular ATP-level was lowered with 2-deoxy-D-glucose (0.35 mM). Acid phosphatase was used as a marker for lysosomal enzymes and imidazole-buffered osmium tetroxide impregnation in order to study the effects of energy deprivation on the maturation of autophagic vacuole (AV) membranes. Predicting the in vivo release from a liposomal formulation by IVIVC and non-invasive positron emission tomography imaging

This study aimed to predict the in vivo performance from the in vitro release of a low-molecular weight model compound, [(18)F]-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose ([(18)F]FDG), from liposomes and by means of positron emission tomography (PET). Liposomes composed of hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine (HPC) were prepared by a freeze-thaw method. Particle size distribution was measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS). Abstract Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging has an enormous potential to improve radiation therapy treatment planning offering complementary functional information with respect to other anatomical imaging approaches. Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the psychoactive component of the plant Cannabis sativa and acts as a partial agonist at cannabinoid type 1 and type 2 receptors in the brain. The goal of this study was to assess the effect of THC on the cerebral glucose uptake in the rat brain. 21 male Sprague Dawley rats (12-13 w) were examined and received five different doses of THC ranging from 0.01 to 1 mg/kg. Exosomal HSP70 for Monitoring of Frontotemporal Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease: Clinical and FDG-PET Correlation

We aimed to study the expression of circulating heat-shock protein HSP70 and exosomes in plasma of a cohort of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) at different stages. We performed correlations with clinical scales and FDG-PET. HSP70 levels were higher within exosomes than free in plasma. Moderate correlations were found between exosomal HSP70 and CDR, FTLD-CDR, and extension of hypometabolism. Our results suggest modifications in the level of exosomal HSP70 during the course of neurodegeneration, regardless of AD or FTD, and therefore HSP70 could have a potential role in the follow-up of these disorders.
