Collaborative Educational Leadership: The Emergence of Human Interactional Sense-Making Process as a Complex System
2014
The article aims at explicating the emergence of human interactional sense‐making process within educational leadership as a complex system. The kind of leadership is understood as a holistic entity called collaborative leadership. There, sense‐making emerges across interdependent domains, called attributes of collaborative leadership. The attributes give rise to the complex system. They are suggested to be the very agents, i.e. both the source and the outcome of the synergetic sense‐making process. Hence, the agents are not the single persons involved who, however, supply the collective attributes that are modified through human interaction in a holistic way. For studying the emergence pro…
Framing the Sources of Image of a Local Area through Outcome-Based Dynamic Performance Management
2018
This article investigates the place image concept. It aims to frame major factors impacting on the image of a local area and to suggest associated measures. The adoption of a dynamic approach enables the exploration of four major factors: the level of tourism development, the fit of contextual attributes, the strength of identity, and the level of synergy between public and private sectors. The emerging conceptual model identifies twelve performance indicators driving interdependencies between outputs and outcomes. Such a model eventually is applied to the “Taormina-Etna district” – located in Sicily (Italy) – with the intent to discussing its effectiveness.
Constructing Interdependencies with Collaborative Information Technology
2000
Interdependence construction is the gradual formation of mutual relationships between people. In this study, the area is narrowed to interdependencies at work, in long term projects or groups. Viewing interdependence relationships dynamically, as social practices, it is possible to appreciate the complex and situated nature of this formation. The main goal of the study is to develop a theoretical account of the dynamics of the intertwined processes of interdependence construction and collaborative technology appropriation and use. The main dimensions of this account are: (1) how interdependence is constructed and established as a social process, (2) how information and communication are inv…
Extending the international new venture phenomenon to digital platform providers : A longitudinal case study
2018
People increasingly interact with services enabled by digital platforms. This has been a consequence of the digitalization of artifacts, which has transmuted traditional businesses into digital forms. With the increasing digitalization and modularization of services, digital platforms have given many digital service providers possibilities to scale globally, and to rapidly transcend national borders by serving multi-sided markets. However, we still know very little about how digital platform providers actually internationalize their services, or how they make their platforms available for global markets. In this paper, we contribute to the increasing literature on digital-based INVs, examin…

Electromagnetic response of LaO_0.94F_0.06FeAs: AC susceptibility and microwave surface resistance
2009
We discuss on the electromagnetic response of a polycrystalline sample of LaO_0.94F_0.06FeAs exposed to DC magnetic fields up to 10 kOe. The low- and high-frequency responses have been investigated by measuring the AC susceptibility at 100 kHz and the microwave surface resistance at 9.6 GHz. At low as well as high DC magnetic fields, the susceptibility strongly depends on the amplitude of the AC driving field, highlighting enhanced nonlinear effects. The field dependence of the AC susceptibility exhibits a magnetic hysteresis that can be justified considering the intragrain-field-penetration effects on the intergrain critical current density. The microwave surface resistance exhibits a cloc…
Unemployment Transitions to Stable and Unstable Jobs Before and During the Crisis
2014
Using administrative records data from Spanish Social Security, we analyse the pattern and the determinants of individual unemployment benefit spell durations. We compare a period of expansion (2005-2007) and the recent recession (2009-2011), allowing us to determine the impact of the current crisis. In line with the duality that characterizes the Spanish labour market, we distinguish between exits to a stable job and exits to an unstable job. We estimate a Multivariate Mixed Proportional Hazard Model for each time period. We find similar effects of the crisis for stable and unstable jobs, which are particularly strong in the first year of the spell. Moreover, slight negative duration depen…
Pedagogical and Psychological Background of Pronunciation Learning and Language Learning Strategies
2016
The aim of this chapter is to provide the theoretical background for the concept of pronunciation, its pedagogical aspects, and selected factors affecting its acquisition. In the following section an array of definitions of pronunciation will be presented in order to provide a broad perspective. This will be followed by a diachronic overview of approaches to pronunciation teaching and learning, in order to present the pedagogical background. Subsequently, the chapter will address current issues linked to aspects of pronunciation and factors affecting pronunciation acquisition.
Larval competition in Drosophila melanogaster: frequency-dependence of viability
1988
The application of the overfeeding technique (interruption of the competition during larval development) to the study of larval competition in two-strain cultures of Drosophila melanogaster demonstrates the following points: (1) viability is a function of competition time; (2) viability becomes more frequency-dependent as competition time increases; (3) the dynamics of the “inner” subpopulation (adults that have passed all their development in a crowded condition) and “outer” subpopulation (adults coming from larvae recovered by interruption of competition) vary with time as regards frequency-dependence; and (4) the wild type strain Oregon is the active agent in competition with the strain …
Pressure and temperature dependence of the lattice dynamics ofCuAlO2investigated by Raman scattering experiments andab initiocalculations
2006
We have studied the vibrational properties of $\mathrm{Cu}\mathrm{Al}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ by means of Raman scattering in ambient conditions, at low temperature, and also at high pressure. Results are discussed in the framework of an ab initio calculation. Raman active modes have wave numbers ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{{E}_{g}}=418.1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.2\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ and ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{{A}_{1g}}=767.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.3\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. Polarized measurements with single crystals have confirmed their symmetry. We present and discuss the phonon-dispersion curves. Below $200\phant…
