Self-construals, conflict styles, and religious identification in India
2013
Purpose – This paper aims to explore the relationships between self-construals, religious identification, and conflict styles in India. Design/methodology/approach – Data were gathered in India (n=1,108) among Hindus (n=744) and Muslims (n=364) in various organizations throughout India. Conflict styles were measured using Oetzel's conflict style measure. Self-construal was measured using Singelis' self-construal measure. Pearson correlations and multiple regressions were conducted. Findings – Correlation analysis showed significant negative correlation between the independent and interdependent self-construal. Multiple hierarchical regression modeling demonstrated significant interactions …
Banach spaces of general Dirichlet series
2018
Abstract We study when the spaces of general Dirichlet series bounded on a half plane are Banach spaces, and show that some of those classes are isometrically isomorphic between themselves. In a precise way, let { λ n } be a strictly increasing sequence of positive real numbers such that lim n → ∞ λ n = ∞ . We denote by H ∞ ( λ n ) the complex normed space of all Dirichlet series D ( s ) = ∑ n b n λ n − s , which are convergent and bounded on the half plane [ Re s > 0 ] , endowed with the norm ‖ D ‖ ∞ = sup Re s > 0 | D ( s ) | . If (⁎) there exists q > 0 such that inf n ( λ n + 1 q − λ n q ) > 0 , then H ∞ ( λ n ) is a Banach space. Further, if there exists a strictly increasing sequ…
Testing Independence: A New Approach
2000
In time series analysis and modelling, testing for independence allows us to determine if the estimated model is correctly specified. In this work, we present a very simple method to test for serial independence, based on the two-dimensional embedding vectors (the so-called “2-histories”), and we analyse the power and size of such a procedure against a wide set of linear and nonlinear alternatives.
LA DIMENSIONE FRATTALE DEI REEF A VERMETI
2012
Fractal geometry can be an useful tool to describe the structural complexity of a vermetid reef. Using fractal analysis of small surfaces, the fractal dimension for the outer rim of some vermetid reefs can be established. A positive correlation between fractal values and the density of Dendropoma petraeum is evident.
The principle of mandatory criminal prosecution and the independence of public prosecutors in the Italian criminal justice system
2010
The purpose of this article is to explain the reasons for adopting, in Italy, the principle of mandatory criminal prosecution. This rule is closely connected to the role and functions of Italian public prosecutors. The supreme guarantee deriving from the rule governing the mandatory status of criminal prosecution is to safeguard the equal treatment of all citizens before criminal law. This is possible only if criminal prosecution is the responsibility of a public body carrying out public functions without any external interference. This is the reason for the independence of public prosecutors from the other powers of the state. But, there has been a tendency to separate the status of public…

Healon®5: A New Viscoadaptive Formulation
2000
To relate the practical relevance of our study results, specific requirement profiles for individual procedures have been correlated to the desired physicochemical characteristics. Healon®5 demonstrated the statistically significant highest zero shear viscosity of all OVD and a long relaxation time (Dick et al., 2000). It therefore most effectively creates and maintains a deep anterior chamber in order to facilitate safe surgical maneuvers (e.g., in case of vitreous pressure). Additionally, the high viscosity of Healon®5 exhibits a dynamic frequency dependence, which has not been observed in any pure hyaluronic acid formulation before. Healon®5’s properties change in response to surgical ma…
Learning and teaching: two processes to bear in mind when rethinking physical medicine and rehabilitation
2010
Rehabilitation has been defined by the WHO as a process aimed at enabling people with disabilities to reach and maintain their optimal physical, sensory, intellectual, psychiatric and/or social functional levels, providing them with the tools to change their lives towards a higher level of independence (13). Rehabilitation includes all measures aimed at reducing the impact of disabling and handicapping conditions and enabling the disabled and handicapped to achieve social integration (14).
Causal Inference in Geoscience and Remote Sensing From Observational Data
2020
Establishing causal relations between random variables from observational data is perhaps the most important challenge in today’s science. In remote sensing and geosciences, this is of special relevance to better understand the earth’s system and the complex interactions between the governing processes. In this paper, we focus on an observational causal inference, and thus, we try to estimate the correct direction of causation using a finite set of empirical data. In addition, we focus on the more complex bivariate scenario that requires strong assumptions and no conditional independence tests can be used. In particular, we explore the framework of (nondeterministic) additive noise models, …
