Distribution of relaxation times in 0.5PMN-0.5PSN ceramics
2007
Dielectric properties of chemically ordered and disordered 0.5PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3-0.5 PbSc1/2Nb1/2O3 (0.5PMN-0.5PSN) ceramics were investigated in frequency range from 20 Hz to 3 GHz by dielectric spectroscopy. The broad dielectric dispersion, similar to this typically obtained for relaxor ferroelectrics (RFE), was observed in both ceramics below 350 K. The frequency dependence of dielectric permittivity of these ceramics were analyzed in terms of the distribution of relaxation times and showed the splitting into two components at lower temperatures. The longest relaxation times part slows down following Vogel-Fulcher law with lower freezing temperature compare with typical RFE like PbMg1/3Nb2/3…
Centrality and rapidity dependence of inclusive pion and prompt photon production in p+Pb collisions at the LHC with EPS09s nPDFs
2014
The centrality dependencies of the inclusive neutral pion and prompt photon nuclear modification factors for p+Pb collisions at the LHC are studied using a spatially dependent set of nuclear PDFs, EPS09s. The calculations are performed at mid- and forward rapidities searching for an observable which would optimally probe the spatial dependence of the nuclear PDFs. In addition, we discuss to which $x$ values of the nucleus the different observables are sensitive.
Basics of doubly heavy tetraquarks
2018
We outline the most important results regarding the stability of doubly heavy tetraquarks $QQ\bar q\bar q$ with an adequate treatment of the four-body dynamics. We consider both color-mixing and spin-dependent effects. Our results are straightforwardly applied to the case of all-heavy tetraquarks $QQ\bar Q\bar Q$. We conclude that the stability is favored in the limit $M_Q/m_q \gg 1$ pointing to the stability of the $bb\bar u\bar d$ state and the instability of all-heavy tetraquarks.
Audit Committee Independence and Auditor-Manager Disputes
2020
This paper analyzes the role of audit committee independence in resolving disagreements between management and the auditor regarding financial reporting. The common intuition suggests that the audit committee must be independent from management to be able to support the auditor against the manager's manipulation attempts. We build a one-period strategic model to show that this intuition is valid only if overinvestment is a bigger concern to shareholders than underinvestment. Otherwise, any audit committee will agree with management to avoid underinvestment. The audit committee's optimal independence level, which can be fully independent or partially dependent, is affected by investment effi…
Artesanado sedero y capital comercial en la Valencia del siglo XVIII
1997
The intense development of the «Verlagssystem» in the XVIII century silk industry in Valencia showed the difficulties of the traditional craftsmen to keep their economic independence. In order to fighy against it, the craftsmen adopted several initiatives, which dealt with the constitution of a share-holding company, as much as with the creation of a communal store to favour the suppley of raw materials to the factories. The most important project was the constitution of the «Compañía de Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados» in 1772. But the requirement of the General Board of Commerce to allow all the social classes to take part in shareholders, as it was not accompanied by the modification …
Mind the Gap: The Big House in Cinematic Representations of the Anglo-Irish War
2018
It goes without saying that the Big House was intended to be a symbol: as more than one critic has remarked, these houses really were only “big” in comparison to the poverty of the lesser structures that surrounded them. They were to be a bastion for British and Anglo-Irish culture and a center for social and administrative interactions. In this sense, they straddled the gap between the towns of Dublin and London, whence their power came, and the villages to whom they administered: it is no coincidence that these garrisons of British power bore the brunt of Republican anger during the Troubles of 1919-1921. Examining two of the rare films to focus on the War of Independence from the perspec…
A la tutela del operario: los patronos ante la Escuela Industrial de Artesanos de Valencia 1868-1888
2015
This article studies the Industrial School of Artisans of Valencia since its founding to its closure. This initiative promoted by the county council had the collaboration of the teaching staff of the Valencia public school, but had an uneven success depending on the political circumstances. However, the work of the school and its independence as a public institution aroused the suspicions of the patrons of the city of Valencia, who tried to control the access of workers to this type of education in order to strengthen relations of patronage in their companies.; El presente artículo estudia la Escuela Industrial de Artesanos de Valencia desde su fundación hasta su supresión. Iniciativa surgi…
Civil Society, Corruption and Ethnic Relations
2015
In 2007 the Estonian government began to relocate a highly contentious Soviet era war memorial from the centre of Tallinn to a nearby military cemetery. The ‘Bronze Soldier’ was erected in 1947 to honour the memory of the fallen Soviet soldiers who had fought in the battles that liberated Tallinn from German forces during the Second World War. At that time it was known as the ‘Monument to the Liberators of Tallinn’. An eternal flame was added in 1964. Following independence, Estonian authorities rededicated it to all soldiers who had died during the war and dismantled the eternal flame in an attempt to depoliticise the memorial. For ethnic Estonians, however, it remained an acrimonious symb…
Designing an Online Escape Room as an Educational Tool
2021
In this chapter, online escape rooms are assessed as part of game-based learning (GBL) that can be used as a free educational tool for teachers to enrich their remote classes. This study was created to test the possibilities that an escape room can provide in a remote learning environment. The benefits and the downsides are explored to understand the design process and the results from the different mechanisms used. The results can give an insight into future possibilities for making escape rooms for classes or for using this format as a prototype for an escape room application. An online escape room for Latvia’s Independence Day was developed for this purpose based on flexible learning iti…
