On the nature of organic electron density transfer complexes within molecular electron density theory.

2019

The structural features of a series of organic molecular complexes formed between the strong electrophilic tetracyanoethylene and twelve benzene derivatives with increased nucleophilic character, herein called Electron Density Transfer Complexes (EDTCs), have been studied using Molecular Electron Density Theory. The favourable nucleophilic/electrophilic interactions, which favour the global electron density transfer (GEDT) towards the electrophile, are responsible for the formation of these species. Molecular complexes presenting a GEDT above 0.05e are classified as EDTCs. Analysis of the Parr functions of the separated reagents and the topological analysis of the electron density of the ED…

Method development of levoglucosenone analysis by UHPLC-UV-MS in fast pyrolysis samples and aspects of its degradation in aqueous samples

2020

Levoglucosenone ((1S,5R)-6,8-dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]oct-2-en-4-one or LGO; CAS number: 37112-31-5) is an extensively studied biomass based chemical and its potential applications in organic synthesis, as well as in the extraction of various natural substances, have been established; therefore developing dependable, yet fast and simple analytical methods for determining LGO in the products of thermochemical biomass processing is of great importance. In this work different UHPLC methods have been developed and compared for the determination of LGO in wood pyrolysis products. In addition to UV detection, LGO determination conditions by single quadrupole mass spectrometry have been adjusted with an…

Comparison of various liquid chromatographic methods for the analysis of avermectin residues in citrus fruits.

2001

Abstract Various liquid chromatographic (LC) techniques for analyzing avermectin (Abamectin) were compared after extraction of residues from citrus fruit samples by matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD). LC with UV and fluorescence detection were used as also was LC coupled to the mass spectrometer by an electrospray interface. The results obtained by the three methods were compared in terms of sensitivity and selectivity. The combination of MSPD extraction and LC with fluorescence detection have made it possible to quantify 0.5 μg kg −1 of Abamectin in 0.5 g of orange sample, with an overall average recovery of 94%. The procedure provides a simple and sensitive method for monitoring Abamect…

Enantiomerization of an inherently chiral resorcarene derivative: determination of the interconversion barrier by computer simulation of the dynamic …

2001

Abstract The inherently chiral tetrabenzoxazine resorcarene derivative 1 shows characteristic plateau-formation during enantioselective HPLC separation on the chiral stationary phase Chiralpak AD. By computer assisted peak form analysis of the elution profiles, obtained from temperature dependent dynamic HPLC (DHPLC) experiments, with ChromWin, the enantiomerization barrier Δ G # (298 K)=92±2 kJ mol −1 and the activation parameters Δ H # =53.0±1.8 kJ mol −1 and Δ S # =−131±14 J (K mol) −1 were determined.

Derivatives of Erythropoietin That Are Tissue Protective But Not Erythropoietic

2004

Erythropoietin (EPO) is both hematopoietic and tissue protective, putatively through interaction with different receptors. We generated receptor subtype–selective ligands allowing the separation of EPO's bioactivities at the cellular level and in animals. Carbamylated EPO (CEPO) or certain EPO mutants did not bind to the classical EPO receptor (EPOR) and did not show any hematopoietic activity in human cell signaling assays or upon chronic dosing in different animal species. Nevertheless, CEPO and various nonhematopoietic mutants were cytoprotective in vitro and conferred neuroprotection against stroke, spinal cord compression, diabetic neuropathy, and experimental autoimmune encephalomyeli…

Deterministic and Random Vibration of Linear Systems with Singular Parameter Matrices and Fractional Derivative Terms

2021

Both time- and frequency-domain solution techniques are developed for determining the response of linear multi-degree-of-freedom systems exhibiting singular parameter matrices and endowed with derivative terms of noninteger orders modeled as rational numbers. This is done based on the Moore-Penrose matrix inverse theory, in conjunction with a state variable formulation and with a complex modal analysis treatment. It is worth noting that, for the class of systems considered herein, this treatment also yields decoupled governing equations, thus facilitating further their numerical solution. Next, a generalization of the standard frequency-domain input-output (excitation-response) relationship…

Finite-Difference Time-Domain Simulation of Tower and Grounding Subjected to Lightning

2015

In this paper the behavior of a tower and its grounding system, subjected to a lightning, is faced. Finite difference time domain (FDTD) method has been chosen in order to study the non-linear time domain behavior of the system. The electromagnetic problem has been described by using two type of first order time derivative equations: Maxwell's equations and Telegraph equations. Aim of this work is to evaluate the possibility of a flashover between tower and power line, by considering different cases of study.

Innovative modeling of tuned liquid column damper controlled structures

2016

In this paper a different formulation for the response of structural systems controlled by Tuned Liquid Column Damper (TLCD) devices is developed, based on the mathematical tool of fractional calculus. Although the increasing use of these devices for structural vibration control, it has been demonstrated that existing model may lead to inaccurate prediction of liquid motion, thus reflecting in a possible imprecise description of the structural response. For this reason the recently proposed fractional formulation introduced to model liquid displacements in TLCD devices, is here extended to deal with TLCD controlled structures under base excitations. As demonstrated through an extensive expe…

A Robustness Approach to Reliability

2012

Reliability of products is here regarded with respect to failure avoidance rather than probability of failure. To avoid failures, we emphasize variation and suggest some powerful tools for handling failures due to variation. Thus, instead of technical calculation of probabilities from data that usually are too weak for correct results, we emphasize the statistical thinking that puts the designers focus on the critical product functions. Making the design insensitive to unavoidable variation is called robust design and is handled by (i) identification and classification of variation, (ii) design of experiments to find robust solutions, and (iii) statistically based estimations of proper safe…

Photo-induced fluorescence of magnesium derivatives of tetracycline antibiotics in wastewater samples

2009

Abstract An analytical strategy, for the determination of tetracyclines (TCs), based on a HPLC system coupled with a photo-reactor followed by post-column derivatization was developed. Higher fluorescence emission after coupling the resulting photo-fragments with magnesium ions was observed for the determination of minocycline (MC), epitetracycline (ETC), tetracycline (TC) and doxycycline (DC). The manifold included a HPLC system with a photo-reactor (PTFE tubing helically coiled around a low-pressure mercury lamp), a mixing T-piece and a fluorescence detector. The derivatization reagent was delivered at 0.5 mL min −1 by a pump. After HPLC separation using a gradient system with a mobile ph…
