N-valproyl-aminoacids as new potential antiepileptic drugs: Synthesis, characterization and in vitro studies on stability
2015
Epilepsy, affecting at least 50 million persons worldwide, is one of the most common neurological disorders. Despite the significant advances in understanding epileptogenic mechanisms and in counteracting their pathological consequences, this clinical condition still has to be faced of treating more effectively the symptoms (epileptic seizures) and of preventing their unfavourable evolution. So far, research has been unsuccessful involved in developing effective antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) capable of preventing the development of the pathogenic process, set in motion by different etiological factors, that leads ultimately to chronic epilepsies .[1, 2] So, a substantial need remains to develo…
Microbiological transformations. 30. Enantioselective hydrolysis of racemic epoxides: the synthesis of enantiopure insect juvenile hormone analogs (b…
1993
Abstract The enantioselective epoxide biohydrolysis of the racemic benzodioxole 6,7-epoxygeraniol derivative 1 has been achieved using the fungus A. niger . This new type of preparative scale bioconversion allows the synthesis of both enantiomers of Bower's compound, an analogue of insect juvenile hormone. Biological tests showed that the 6(R) enantiomer was about ten times more active than the 6(S) enantiomer against the yellow meal worm Tenebrio molitor .
Modification of halloysite lumen with dopamine derivatives as filler for antibiofilm coating
2023
Hypothesis: Development of nanocomposite coating with antibiofilm properties is of fundamental importance to efficient fight biofilm formation preventing infections in biomedical area. In this context, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs), biocompatible and low-cost clay mineral, have been efficiently used as filler for different polymeric matrices affording several nanocomposites with appealing antimicrobial properties. The modification of HNTs surfaces represents a valuable strategy to improve the utilization of the clay for biological purposes. Experiments: Herein, the covalent modification of the HNTs lumen with properly designed dopamine derivatives with different perfluoroalkyl chain length is…

The title compound, C14H13NO2, is a non-planar biphenyl derivative, in which the dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 62.65 (5) °.
Automatic program for peak detection and deconvolution of multi-overlapped chromatographic signals
2005
Several interlinked algorithms for peak deconvolution by non-linear regression are presented. These procedures, together with the peak detection methods outlined in Part I, have allowed the implementation of an automatic method able to process multi-overlapped signals, requiring little user interaction. A criterion based on the evaluation of the multivariate selectivity of the chromatographic signal is used to auto-select the most efficient deconvolution procedure for each chromatographic situation. In this way, non-optimal local solutions are avoided in cases of high overlap, and short computation times are obtained in situations of high resolution. A new algorithm, fitting both the origin…
Synthesis and characterization of Sn(IV) complexes of lower rim 1,3-diacid derivative of calix[4]arene and their protective effects on tissue oxidati…
2005
The two Sn(IV) complexes synthesized using calix[4]arene-1,3-di-acid derivative were characterized by analytical, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR, matrix assisted laser desorption ionization mass, and 119Sn Mossbauer techniques and found that the complexes are tetranuclear possessing structurally two different types of tin centers. These complexes were evaluated for their protective value against blood and tissue oxidative stress in lead exposed male albino rats of Wistar strain. The results suggest that the two tin complexes significantly protect changes in lead induced biochemical variables indicative of heme synthesis pathway and exhibit only moderate effect on tissue oxidative stress. The benefic…
Neuroprotective effect of erythropoietin and darbepoetin alfa after experimental intracerebral hemorrhage.
2009
OBJECTIVE: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating clinical syndrome for which no truly efficacious therapy has yet been identified. In preclinical studies, erythropoietin (EPO) and its long-lasting analog, darbepoetin alfa, have been demonstrated to be neuroprotective in several models of neuronal insult. The objectives of this study were to analyze whether the systemic administration of recombinant human EPO (rHuEPO) and its long-lasting derivative darbepoetin alfa expedited functional recovery and brain damage in a rat model of ICH. METHODS: Experimental ICH was induced in rats by injecting autologous blood into the right striatum under stereotactic guidance. Subsequently, animal…
Dimerization control in the self-assembly behavior of copillar[5]arenes bearing ω-hydroxyalkoxy groups.
2012
Two novel copillar[5]arenes bearing ω-hydroxyalkoxy groups are synthesized and their self-assembly properties are studied by (1)H NMR spectroscopy, specific viscosity, and X-ray measurements. The copillar[5]arene 2b bearing a 6-hydroxyhexyloxy group exhibits a reversible self-assembly behavior, leading to the formation of the self-inclusion monomer and hugging dimers. The reversible self-assembly behavior can be controlled by tuning solvent, temperature, guest, and H-bond interaction. However, the copillar[5]arene 2a bearing a short 4-hydroxybutyloxy group does not show such a self-assembly behavior to the formation of the self-inclusion monomer and hugging dimers.
