Non-isospectral Hamiltonians, intertwining operators and hidden hermiticity

2011

We have recently proposed a strategy to produce, starting from a given hamiltonian $h_1$ and a certain operator $x$ for which $[h_1,xx^\dagger]=0$ and $x^\dagger x$ is invertible, a second hamiltonian $h_2$ with the same eigenvalues as $h_1$ and whose eigenvectors are related to those of $h_1$ by $x^\dagger$. Here we extend this procedure to build up a second hamiltonian, whose eigenvalues are different from those of $h_1$, and whose eigenvectors are still related as before. This new procedure is also extended to crypto-hermitian hamiltonians.

Innovative modeling of Tuned Liquid Column Damper motion

2015

Abstract In this paper a new model for the liquid motion within a Tuned Liquid Column Damper (TLCD) device is developed, based on the mathematical tool of fractional calculus. Although the increasing use of these devices for structural vibration control, it is shown that existing model does not always lead to accurate prediction of the liquid motion. A better model is then needed for accurate simulation of the behavior of TLCD systems. As regards, it has been demonstrated how correctly including the first linear liquid sloshing mode, through the equivalent mechanical analogy well established in literature, produces numerical results that highly match the corresponding experimental ones. Sin…

Fractional-Order Theory of Thermoelasticity. II: Quasi-Static Behavior of Bars

2018

This work aims to shed light on the thermally-anomalous coupled behavior of slightly deformable bodies, in which the strain is additively decomposed in an elastic contribution and in a thermal part. The macroscopic heat flux turns out to depend upon the time history of the corresponding temperature gradient, and this is the result of a multiscale rheological model developed in Part I of the present study, thereby resembling a long-tail memory behavior governed by a Caputo's fractional operator. The macroscopic constitutive equation between the heat flux and the time history of the temperature gradient does involve a power law kernel, resulting in the anomaly mentioned previously. The interp…

Structural Approaches to Explain the Selectivity of COX-2 Inhibitors: Is There a Common Pharmacophore?

2000

The identification and characterisation of the isoenzyme cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) stimulated investigations to develop efficient non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with reduced side effects compared to standard NSAIDs. This review will focus on the structural features needed to achieve COX-2 selectivity. Five structural classes can be identified together with a class bearing little or no resemblance to one another in their molecular structure. The most interesting point is the very distinct structure/activity relationship. On the one hand only minor modifications to a particular compound induce a drastic change in its COX selectivity and on the other hand the structural prerequisites in …

Interactions of N-heteroalkylaminomethylenebisphosphonic acids with Cd(II) ions: Electrochemical and spectroscopic investigations

2015

The aminomethylenebisphosphonates are known to be excellent chelators for many metal ions. In this work, the coordination properties of three different aminomethylenebisphosphonates with N-substituted heteroalkyl moieties (L1, L2 and L3) and their N-pyridyl derivative (L4) toward cadmium(II) ions are described. Due to their coordination abilities over a broad range of pH, the compounds of this group are good candidates for heavy metal detoxification. To determine the stability constants and the coordination mode of formed aminomethylenebisphosphonate-cadmium(II) complexes, four analytical methods were employed: potentiometry, pulse polarography (DPP), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy…

Absolutely continuous functions in Rn

2005

Abstract For each 0 α 1 we consider a natural n-dimensional extension of the classical notion of absolute continuous function. We compare it with the Malý's and Hencl's definitions. It follows that each α-absolute continuous function is continuous, weak differentiable with gradient in L n , differentiable almost everywhere and satisfies the formula on change of variables.

The Seasonality Impact of the BTEX Pollution on the Atmosphere of Arad City, Romania

2021

Benzene, toluene, and total BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene) concentrations registered for one year (2016) have been determined every month for one high-density traffic area. The assessment was performed in Arad City, Romania, to evaluate these pollutants and their influence on the inhabitants’ health. The contaminants were sampled using a static sampling method and analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. Benzene was the most dominant among the BTEX compounds—the average concentrations ranged from 18.00 ± 1.32 µg m−3 in December to 2.47 ± 0.74 µg m−3 in August. The average toluene concentration over the year was 4.36 ± 2.42 µg m−3 (with a maximum of 9…

Determining exhaust fumes exposure in chainsaw operations

2016

Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate the inhalation exposure of forest operators to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes) contained in the exhaust fumes released from chainsaws and to suggest possible countermeasures. The study was carried out in four silvicultural treatments (coppice clearcut, conifer thinning, conifer pruning, and sanitary cut), using three types of chainsaw fuel (normal two-stroke petrol mix and two alkylate fuels). Eighty personal air samples were collected; IOM samplers combined with Amberlite XAD-2 sorbent tubes were used for collecting PAHs and Radiello® samplers were used for BTEX. Resu…

Polycrystalline TiO2 impregnated with cardanol-based porphyrins for the photocatalytic degradation of 4-nitrophenol

2004

Hydrogenated cardanol (3-n-pentadecylphenol), a renewable organic resource obtained by vacuum distillation of roasted “cashew nut shell liquid” (CNSL), a by-product of the cashew industry, has been used to synthesize novel lipophilic porphyrins. Polycrystalline TiO2 impregnated with these novel “cardanol-based” porphyrins as sensitizers has been investigated in the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) in aqueous suspension. The results indicated that the presence of the sensitizer enhances the photoactivity of polycrystalline bare TiO2 in the process. The activating effect was higher in the case of the Cu-complex.
