Binding abilities of a chiral calix[4]resorcinarene: a polarimetric investigation on a complex case of study
2017
Polarimetry was used to investigate the binding abilities of a chiral calix[4]resorcinarene derivative, bearing L-proline subunits, towards a set of suitably selected organic guests. The simultaneous formation of 1:1 and 2:1 host–guest inclusion complexes was observed in several cases, depending on both the charge status of the host and the structure of the guest. Thus, the use of the polarimetric method was thoroughly revisited, in order to keep into account the occurrence of multiple equilibria. Our data indicate that the stability of the host–guest complexes is affected by an interplay between Coulomb interactions, π–π interactions, desolvation effects and entropy-unfavorable conformatio…

New insights into the surface functionalities and adsorption evolution of water molecules on silica gel surface: A study by second derivative near in…
2010
Accepted version of an article in the journal: Vibrational Spectroscopy. Published version available on Science Direct: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.vibspec.2010.06.003 Surface functionalities and adsorption evolution of water molecules on silica gel samples were studied by second derivative near infrared spectroscopy. Four different silica gel samples with varying surface area were used in this experiment. Each of the dry samples was allowed to equilibrate with surrounding air and the near infrared spectra were accumulated at different time intervals using reflectance technique. The evolved spectra were analysed using second derivative technique to study the adsorption evolution of water mo…
Alteration of anion gap during almost total plasma replacement with synthetic colloids in piglets
2000
In ten piglets (body weight 8.2-11.6 kg), acid base, electrolyte and anion gap changes were investigated during almost total plasma replacement with hydroxyethyl starch (HES) and modified fluid gelatin (GEL) in saline solution using a cell saver autotransfusion technique. During the study, there were only moderate acid base changes, but marked disturbances in anion balance. At study end, the mean chloride concentration was significantly higher (mmol/l: normal values 97-108, HES 116 +/- 1.5, GEL 108 +/- 1.1, p0.01) and the mean anion gap was significantly lower in the HES group in comparison to the GEL group (mmol/l: normal values 5-14, HES 3 +/- 1.7, GEL 11.9 +/- 0.9, p0.01). It is conclude…
Optimalization of doubletone polarography
1977
Abstract Through the application of coherent fundamental frequencies, the synchronization of measuring frequency and dropping frequency, which facilitate the use of phase sensitive techniques, doubletone polarography could be developed into a highly sensitive polarographic method with a high resolution in common with all derivative methods.
Synthesis of new derivatives of Nortopsentin with potential inhibitory activity against GSK-3b
Cytotoxic geranylflavonoids from Bonannia graeca
2011
The analysis of the aerial parts of Bonannia graeca led to the isolation and characterization of two new polar geranylated flavonoids (6 and 7). The structure elucidation was performed by extensive spectroscopic methods (1D and 2D NMR) and comparison with literature data. All natural flavonoids isolated from B. graeca (1–7) and some synthetic derivatives (8–11) were tested for cytotoxic activity against four human tumor cell lines. Preliminary structure-activity relationship correlations are discussed.
Site-selectivity control in hetero-Diels-Alder reactions of methylidene derivatives of lawsone through modification of the reactive carbonyl group: a…
2019
A new perspective on the reactivity of hydroxyquinones was revealed as an acetal derivative of lawsone was synthesized, isolated, and used in tandem Knoevenagel/hetero-Diels-Alder reactions catalyzed by S-proline. The intermediate alkylidene-1,3-diones that were formed in situ reacted with electron rich alkenes to predominantly afford pyrano-1,2-naphthoquinone (β-lapachone) derivatives along with the isomeric pyrano-1,4-naphthoquinone (α-lapachone) derivatives in high to excellent total yields. Interestingly, the highly reactive arylidene-1,3-dione derivatives were found to be stable and isolable. DFT calculations suggest that these hetero-Diels-Alder reactions have a high polar character, …
Spacelike energy of timelike unit vector fields on a Lorentzian manifold
2004
On a Lorentzian manifold, we define a new functional on the space of unit timelike vector fields given by the L2 norm of the restriction of the covariant derivative of the vector field to its orthogonal complement. This spacelike energy is related with the energy of the vector field as a map on the tangent bundle endowed with the Kaluza–Klein metric, but it is more adapted to the situation. We compute the first and second variation of the functional and we exhibit several examples of critical points on cosmological models as generalized Robertson–Walker spaces and Godel universe, on Einstein and contact manifolds and on Lorentzian Berger’s spheres. For these critical points we have also stu…
ChemInform Abstract: Synthetic Derivatives of Aromatic Abietane Diterpenoids and Their Biological Activities
2014
Naturally occurring aromatic abietane diterpenoids (dehydroabietanes) exhibit a wide range of biological activities. A number of synthetic studies aimed at modifying the abietane skeleton in order to obtain new potential chemotherapeutic agents have been reported. In this study, the biological activities of synthetic derivatives of aromatic abietane diterpenoids are reviewed.
