The role of virtual work in Levi-Civita's parallel transport

2015

The current literature on history of science reports that Levi-Civita’s parallel transport was motivated by his attempt to provide the covariant derivative of the absolute differential calculus with a geometrical interpretation (For instance, see Scholz in The intersection of history and mathematics, Birkhauser, Basel, pp 203–230, 1994, Sect. 4). Levi-Civita’s memoir on the subject was explicitly aimed at simplifying the geometrical computation of the curvature of a Riemannian manifold. In the present paper, we wish to point out the possible role implicitly played by the principle of virtual work in Levi-Civita’s conceptual reasoning to formulate parallel transport.

Bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-ato) zirconium complexes as precursors for ethylene polymerisation upon activation with MAO: Syntheses, characterisation an…

2007

Abstract The bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-ato) zirconium complex [Zr(η2-3,5-Me2Pz)2(NMe2)2(NHMe2)2] (2) is obtained by treatment of [Zr(NMe2)4] with 2 equiv. of 3,5-dimethylpyrazole 1. The reaction of the [ZrCl4(THF)2] adduct with 2 equiv. of the potassium salt of 1 affords the dichloro derivative [Zr(η2-3,5-Me2Pz)2Cl2]n (3), while reaction with 4.1 equiv. of 1 in the presence of 2.1 equiv. of NEt3 affords the dichloro pyrazole adduct [Zr(η2-3,5-Me2Pz)2Cl2(η1-3,5-Me2PzH)2] (4). Treatment of [Zr(CH2Ph)4] with 2 equiv. of 1 gives the dibenzyl complex [Zr(η2-3,5-Me2Pz)2(CH2Ph)2] (5) via alkane elimination. Compound 4 presents fluxional behaviour in CDCl3 solution, which was studied and quantified…

Organocatalytic enantioselective functionalization of indoles in the carbocyclic ring with cyclic imines

2019

[EN] An organocatalytic enantioselective functionalization in the carbocyclic ring of indoles with benzoxathiazine 2,2-dioxides is described using a quinine-derived bifunctional organocatalyst. This aza-Friedel-Crafts reaction provides 4-indolyl, 5-indolyl and 7-indolyl sulfamidate derivatives in good yields (up to 99%) and with moderate to high enantioselectivities (up to 86% ee).

Synthesis of borylindenides. Complexes with iron and rhenium moieties

1999

Abstract Borylation of lithium indenide with BBrMe 2 gives the allylic 1-indenyl derivative (1-Ind)BMe 2 ( 1c ) together with the bis-allylic connected species (1-Ind) 2 BMe ( 3 ) and with BCl i Pr 2 , the allylic 1-indenyl (1-Ind)B i Pr 2 ( 1d ); the latter, with Et 3 N or Py added, rearranges to the vinylic 3-indenyl isomer (3-Ind)B i Pr 2 ( 2d ). The disubstituted indene C 9 H 6 Ind(SiMe 3 )B(O 2 C 2 Me 4 ) ( 5 ) was prepared from Li[C 9 H 6 B(O 2 C 2 Me 4 )] ( 4b ) and Me 3 SiCl. Both (1-Ind)BMe 2 and (1-Ind)B i Pr 2 readily undergo metalation when treated with LiTMP or LiInd to give pure 1-borylindenides Li(C 9 H 6 BMe 2 ) ( 4c ) and Li(C 9 H 6 B i Pr 2 ) ( 4d ). A barrier to internal …

Synthesis of borylindenides; structure of [Li(N,N′,N″-Me3-1,3,5-C3H6N3)][1-C9H6{B(NMe2)2}]

1998

Abstract Borylation of lithium indenide (LiInd) affords indenylboranes. With BCl(NMe2)2 the primary allylic 1-indenyl derivative IndB(NMe2)2 (1) readily rearranges to the more stable vinylic bis(dimethylamino)(3-indenyl)borane 1′. With BCl(OCMe2)2 the (1-indenyl)-1,3,2-dioxaborolane IndB(OCMe2)2 (2) is obtained. Both indenylboranes 1′ and 2 readily undergo metalation when treated with lithium amides such as LiTMP or LDA to give 1-borylindenides Li[C9H6B(NMe2)2] [Li(3)] and Li[C9H6B(OCMe2)2] [Li(5)] in high yields. In the systems 1′/LiInd and 2/LiInd metalation equilibria are established with equlibrium constants K≈1 (1'/LiInd) and K≈1.4 (2/LiInd). The structure of the solvate [Li(TMHT)][1-C…

Headspace–mass spectrometry determination of benzene, toluene and the mixture of ethylbenzene and xylene isomers in soil samples using chemometrics

2007

A simple and fast method has been developed for the determination of benzene, toluene and the mixture of ethylbenzene and xylene isomers (BTEX) in soils. Samples were introduced in 10 mL standard glass vials of a headspace (HS) autosampler together with 150 microL of 2,6,10,14-tetramethylpentadecane, heated at 90 degrees C for 10 min and introduced in the mass spectrometer by using a transfer line heated at 250 degrees C as interface. The volatile fraction of samples was directly introduced into the source of the mass spectrometer which was scanned from m/z 75 to 110. A partial least squares (PLS) multivariate calibration approach based on a classical 3(3) calibration model was build with m…

Influence of Proton Conducting Cations on the Structure and Properties of 2D Anilate-Based Magnets

2017

The syntheses, structures, magnetic, and proton conductivity properties of a family of bimetallic anilate-based compounds with inserted alkylammonium cations are presented. The structures of (Me2NH2)[MnIICrIII(Br2An)3]·2H2O (1), (Et2NH2)[MnIICrIII(Br2An)3] (2), (Et3NH)[MnIICrIII(Cl2An)3] (3), and [(Et)(i-Pr)2NH]-[MnIICrIII(Br2An)3]·(CHCl3)0.5·(H2O) (4) contain a 2D anionic network formed by Mn(II) and Cr(III) ions linked through anilate ligands. In 1, 2, and 3, the hexagonal holes of this network are occupied by Me2NH2+, Et2NH2+, or Et3NH+ cations. Interestingly, the small increase of size of the templating cation in 4 ([(Et)(i-Pr)2NH]+ in the place of Me2NH2+, Et2NH2+ or Et3NH+), gives ris…

A bis(triazole)benzamide receptor for the complexation of halide anions and neutral carboxylic acid guests. Guest-controlled topicity and self-assemb…

2012

Bis(triazole)benzamide 1 has been readily synthesized by means of Cu-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition and its ability to bind halide anions and neutral gallic acid derivative 12GA has been theoretically and experimentally investigated. The cavity defined by the N-H amide group and the vicinal aromatic hydrogens is suitable to form H-bonding arrays with halide guests. The stability of complexes 1·Cl- and 1·Br- is very similar, as DFT calculations predict and 1H NMR titration experiments confirm. The zigzag "anti" conformation of the molecule generates two regions with complementary positive and negative potentials that favor the statistical complexation of two molecules of the neutral car…
