Toward a lightweight and efficient UAV‐aided VANET

2019

International audience; Connectivity in a smart vehicular network is quite sensitive and highly affected by its dynamic network topology. Issues related to the intermittent nature of connectivity may arise due to the high mobility of nodes and network heterogeneity. In sparse areas, a vehicular network is basically a disruption‐tolerant network suffering from frequent disconnections, long delays, and messages loss. Facing these issues, and specifically for time‐sensitive applications, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) can provide valuable assistance to Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) by assuming a relay node role between disconnected segments in the road. In such scenarios, effective communica…

A Non-WSSUS Mobile-to-Mobile Channel Model Assuming Velocity Variations of the Mobile Stations

2017

This paper aims to characterize the effects that the velocity variations of the mobile stations (MSs) produce on the correlation properties of non-stationary time-frequency (TF) dispersive mobile- to-mobile (M2M) fading channels. Toward that end, we propose a novel geometrical model for non-wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (non-WSSUS) M2M channels that incorporates such variations following a plane wave propagation approach. Capitalizing on the mathematical simplicity of this approach, we derive a general expression for the four-dimensional (4D) TF correlation function (TFCF) of the proposed channel model. From this expression, we analyze the influence of the MSs' acceleration#…

Abstract Reliable patient-specific ventricular repolarization times (RTs) can identify regions of functional block or afterdepolarizations, indicating arrhythmogenic cardiac tissue and the risk of sudden cardiac death. Unipolar electrograms (UEs) record electric potentials, and the Wyatt method has been shown to be accurate for estimating RT from a UE. High-pass filtering is an important step in processing UEs, however, it is known to distort the T-wave phase of the UE, which may compromise the accuracy of the Wyatt method. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of high-pass filtering, and improve RT estimates derived from filtered UEs. We first generated a comprehensive set of UE…

Profiles and seasonal distribution of airborne fungi in indoor and outdoor environments at a French hospital

2009

International audience; A one-year prospective survey of fungal air contamination was conducted in outdoor air and inside two haematological units of a French hospital. Air was sampled with a portable Air System Impactor. During this period of survey, the mean viable fungal load was 122.1 cfu/m(3) in outdoor air samples, and 4.1 and 3.9 cfu/m(3) in samples from adult and pediatric haematology units, respectively. In outdoor samples, Cladosporium was the dominant genus (55%) while in the clinical units, Penicillium sp. (23 to 25%), Aspergillus sp. (15 to 23%) and Bjerkandera adusta (11 to 13%) were the most frequently recovered airborne fungi. The outdoor fungal load was far higher in autumn…

Decontamination of a barrier facility using microisolator cages and provisional partitioning

2007

In 2000, the authors found endemic infections of mouse hepatitis virus, minute virus of mice, Syphacia obvelata, and Myobia musculi among mice in a large barrier facility at the University of Mainz. To eliminate the infections, they subdivided the facility into two distinct hygiene units. However, architectural constraints made it impossible to completely separate the HVAC systems of both hygiene units and to establish adequate personnel locks. To compensate for these suboptimal barrier conditions of the two newly established units, the authors replaced the open-top caging and open-servicing system with filter-top cages that were manipulated in cage-changing stations. The authors then depop…

Experimental Study of Vibrations in Face Milling Cutting

2014

Abstract The present paper consists in a comparison of vibrations measured during face milling cutting with two constructive variants of milling cutters (one with classic insert clamping and other with a quick insert adjustment mechanism). The goal of the study is to determine if the new clamping mechanism of the inserts has a similar behaviour with the classic one and can withstand milling conditions without introducing additional vibrations in the system

Il tecnigrafo Tiburtino

2021

The essay is a development of Pier Federico Caliari's study for the Piazza d'Oro in Villa Adrina at Tivoli published in the magazine Ananke 84. Its subtitle is indeed Studio dal testo di Ananke 84. Some of Caliari's HYpothesis about the axial development of some parts of Villa Adriana are put in relation with geometrical tracement tools on one side and art of memory on the other side.

Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on mobility in ten countries and associated perceived risk for all transport modes.

2021

The restrictive measures implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have triggered sudden massive changes to travel behaviors of people all around the world. This study examines the individual mobility patterns for all transport modes (walk, bicycle, motorcycle, car driven alone, car driven in company, bus, subway, tram, train, airplane) before and during the restrictions adopted in ten countries on six continents: Australia, Brazil, China, Ghana, India, Iran, Italy, Norway, South Africa and the United States. This cross-country study also aims at understanding the predictors of protective behaviors related to the transport sector and COVID-19. Findings hinge upon an online survey con…
