Introducing evidence-based practices to manage problem behaviours at school: The behave application

2020

In the last years, an increasing awareness amongst educator and scholastic psychologists of the relevance to manage behavioural and emotional problems applying evidence-based approaches, and quasi-experimental designs is emerging. This request, however, must come to terms with certain barriers that persist in the school environment. The introduction of quantified methods to assess and monitor student's results, to evaluate the efficacy of the intervention, to understand the evolution of the single, is not part of the usual teacher's curriculum. The present paper describes the BEHAVE (Behavioral management model across Europe) application, a tool able to support the transition of all educato…

Anchoring Belonging Through Material Practices in Participatory Arts-Based Research

2020

How do people understand belonging and what kinds of stances toward belonging do they take? What kind of knowledge or ways of knowing (EISNER, 2008) does artistic practice yield about belonging? We ask these questions in this article, which is based on the research project Crossing Borders, in which we used participatory arts-based methods to study belonging. We invited participants to explore the notion of belonging in three parallel workshops drawing on different art forms, film, writing and visual arts. The goal of the workshops was for each participant to produce an artwork that deals with belonging. In the article, we identify four stances that the participants expressed toward the con…

Interpretive Challenges in Games

2018

This paper argues that these is a category of challenges often overlooked in game studies. It is here called "interpretive challenges" and it requires players to sort out contextual and ambiguous information.

Multiverse Ethnography: A Qualitative Method for Gaming and Technology Use Research

2021

This article introduces multiverse ethnography as a systematic team-based qualitative method for studying the mechanical, structural and experiential properties of video games and other technological artefacts. Instead of applying the ethnographic method to produce a single in-depth account, multiverse ethnography includes multiple researchers carrying out coordinated synergetic ethnographic work on the same research object, thus producing a multiverse of interpretations and perspectives. To test the method, 41 scholars carried out a multiverse ethnography on two video games, Cyberpunk 2077 and Among Us. Explorative thematic findings regarding both titles are reported and methodological imp…

Data from: Constant, cycling, hot and cold thermal environments: strong effects on mean viability but not on genetic estimates

2012

It has frequently been suggested that trait heritabilities are environmentally sensitive, and there are genetic trade-offs between tolerating different environments such as hot and cold or constant and fluctuating temperatures. Future climate predictions suggest an increase in both temperatures and their fluctuations. How species will respond to these changes is uncertain, particularly as there is a lack of studies which compare genetic performances in constant vs. fluctuating environments. In this study, we used a nested full-sib/half-sib breeding design to examine how the genetic variances and heritabilities of egg-to-adult viability differ at high and low temperatures with and without da…

Longitudinal trajectories of emotions among athletes in sports competitions: Does emotional intelligence matter?

2021

Abstract Objectives This research explored whether several subgroups of athletes representing distinct emotional trajectories could be shown to exist within the latent class growth analysis (LCGA) of pleasant and unpleasant sport emotions (anger, anxiety, dejection, excitement, happiness). A secondary aim was to explore whether athletes belonging to distinct emotional trajectories reported distinct scores of trait-emotional intelligence (EI) at time 1 (T1). Design A longitudinal three-wave measurement design (beginning, middle, and end of a competitive season) was used in the present study. Method A sample of 460 athletes completed the sport emotion questionnaire across three measurement ti…

Rational Design of Latent Fluorophores from Water-Soluble Hydroxyphenyltriazine Dyes Suitable for Lipase Sensing

2015

The phenol residue of water‐soluble 2‐(2′‐hydroxy‐5′‐dimethylaminobenzyl)‐4,6‐dimethylamino‐1,3,5‐triazine is masked by an enzyme‐labile protecting group constructed with a self‐immolative para‐hydroxybenzyl alcohol. The fluorescence of the dyes is restored with lipases under physiological conditions without aggregation or precipitation of the fluorescent dyes. Derivatives of 2‐(2′‐hydroxy‐5′‐dimethylaminobenzyl)‐4,6‐dimethylamino‐1,3,5‐triazine were synthesized by an original multistep protocol that afforded, after quaternization of the N,N‐dimethylaminobenzyl moiety, water‐soluble fluorescent dyes. These fluorophores exhibited excited‐state intramolecular proton transfer and large Stokes …

A frozen analogue approach to aminopyridinylimidazoles leading to novel and promising p38 MAP kinase inhibitors.

2012

In this study we report the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of constrained aminopyridinylimidazoles as p38α MAP kinase inhibitors. The frozen analogue approach focused on the pyridinyl unit, using purine bioisosteres as constrained structure analogues. The identification of the most potent bioisostere was followed by a further derivatization to address hydrophobic region II. In combination with C-2 modifications of the imidazole core, we were able to design highly active inhibitors on the p38α MAP kinase. The inhibitor design presented herein represents a promising and highly efficient advancement of recent stages of development in this class of p38 MAP kinase inhibitors. In co…
