Lattice-constrained parametrizations of form factors for semileptonic and rare radiative B decays
1997
We describe the form factors for B to rho lepton neutrino and B to K* gamma decays with just two parameters and the two form factors for B to pi lepton neutrino with a further two or three parameters. The parametrizations are consistent with heavy quark symmetry, kinematic constraints and lattice results, which we use to determine the parameters. In addition, we test versions of the parametrizations consistent (or not) with light-cone sum rule scaling relations at q^2=0.
The impact of study design and diagnostic approach in a large multi-centre ADHD study. Part 1: ADHD symptom patterns
2011
Contains fulltext : 96439.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) BACKGROUND: The International Multi-centre ADHD Genetics (IMAGE) project with 11 participating centres from 7 European countries and Israel has collected a large behavioural and genetic database for present and future research. Behavioural data were collected from 1068 probands with the combined type of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD-CT) and 1446 'unselected' siblings. The aim was to analyse the IMAGE sample with respect to demographic features (gender, age, family status, and recruiting centres) and psychopathological characteristics (diagnostic subtype, symptom frequencies, age at symptom detection, and com…
IAPs and Resistance to Death Receptors in Cancer
2017
Since their identification in mammal cells, IAPs emerged have as potent regulators of death receptor signalling pathways, determining the cell fate in response to receptor stimulation. Among IAPs, cIAP1 and cIAP2 are active components of receptor-associated signalling complexes able to promote the activation of ubiquitin-dependent survival signalling pathways. For its part, XIAP is an important regulator of caspase activity, determining the apoptotic signalling pathway engaged after death receptor stimulation. The use of IAP antagonists is a promising strategy in order to overcome the resistance of tumor cells to death receptor stimulation.
Cardiovascular outcomes and achieved blood pressure in patients with and without diabetes at high cardiovascular risk
2019
Abstract Aims Studies have shown a non-linear relationship between systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and outcomes, with increased risk observed at both low and high blood pressure (BP) levels. We hypothesized that the BP-risk association is different in individuals with and without diabetes at high cardiovascular risk. Methods and results We identified patients with (N = 11 487) or without diabetes (N = 19 450), from 30 937 patients, from 133 centres in 44 countries with a median follow-up of 56 months in the ONTARGET/TRANSCEND studies. Patients had a prior history of stroke, myocardial infarction (MI), peripheral artery disease, or were high-risk diabetics. P…
The differentiation of the serotonergic neurons in the Drosophila ventral nerve cord depends on the combined function of the zinc finger proteins Eag…
1997
ABSTRACT The Drosophila ventral nerve cord (vNC) derives from a stereotyped population of neural stem cells, neuroblasts (NBs), each of which gives rise to a characteristic cell lineage. The mechanisms leading to the specification and differentiation of these lineages are largely unknown. Here we analyse mechanisms leading to cell differentiation within the NB 7-3 lineage. Analogous to the grasshopper, NB 7-3 is the progenitor of the Drosophila vNC serotonergic neurons. The zinc finger protein Eagle (Eg) is expressed in NB 7-3 just after delamination and is present in all NB 7-3 progeny until late stage 17. DiI cell lineage tracing and immunocytochemistry reveal that eg is required for norm…
Polarographische Untersuchungen an monomeren und polymeren N-Chlorcarbonamiden
1979
The polarographic reduction of low molecular and high molecular N-chlorocarboxamides at the dropping mercury electrode proceeds in two one-electron-transfer steps, which are highly irreversible. In the case of the low molecular models 1 and 2 the reaction is diffusion-controlled, whereas in the case of the poly(N-chloroamide) 3 the reaction is adsorption-controlled. Reduction of several poly(N-chloroamide)s shows always two reduction waves with a distance of 0,5 V. There is, however, no relation between the polyamide-type and the position of the half-wave potentials. The polarographic reduction can be used as an analytical method for quantitative determination of N-chlorocarboxamide groups …
Chemical separation and MC-ICPMS analysis of U, Th, Pa and Ra isotope ratios of carbonates
2018
Diagenetic alteration of fossil reef corals may have severe effects on the reliability of 230Th/U-ages. The widely applied criteria introduced to test for the reliability of coral 230Th/U-ages are often not sufficient to identify all altered ages. The combination of 230Th/U- with 231Pa/U-dating has been suggested as a promising method to identify altered ages. Furthermore, 226Ra/230Th ratios can provide information about the diagenetic history during the last 10 000 years. Here we present a method to chemically separate U, Th, Pa and Ra from the same aliquot of a carbonate sample. The isotope ratios of our mixed U–Th–Pa–Ra spike are calibrated using a secular equilibrium material treated in…
Limited Usefulness of Capture Procedure and Capture Percentage for Evaluating Reproducibility in Psychological Science
2018
In psychological science, there is an increasing concern regarding the reproducibility of scientific findings. For instance, Replication Project: Psychology (Open Science Collaboration, 2015) found that the proportion of successful replication in psychology was 41%. This proportion was calculated based on Cumming and Maillardet’s (2006) widely employed capture procedure (CPro) and capture percentage (CPer). Despite the popularity of CPro and CPer, we believe that using them may lead to an incorrect conclusion of (a) successful replication when the population effect sizes in the original and replicated studies are different; and (b) unsuccessful replication when the population effect sizes i…
