Dietary therapy and non-surgical periodontal treatment in obese patients with chronic periodontitis.
2018
Aim The effect of dietary weight loss intervention on periodontal therapy is unknown. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate whether weight loss improves the response of obese subjects to non-surgical periodontal treatment. Materials and methods This interventional study in obese patients was conducted at the University Hospital Dr. Peset (Valencia, Spain). Patients were divided into two groups with and without dietary therapy. All participants received non-surgical periodontal treatment. Periodontal, anthropometric and biochemical parameters were assessed at baseline and 12 weeks. Results A total of 78 patients were re-evaluated after intervention. All periodontal parameters improved in both grou…
The Effects of Oregano Oil on Fungal Infections Associated with Metabolic Syndrome
2020
International audience; This study aims to compare the evolution of mycosis associated with metabolic syndrome under allopathic treatment compared to phytotherapy using oregano essential oil. The study was conducted over a period of 6 months, on a total of 72 patients diagnosed with fungal infections associated with metabolic syndrome. The patients were divided into 3 groups, depending on the administered treatment: group 1: 24 patients who received allopathic treatment; group 2: 24 patients who received oregano oil treatment; group 3: control, which did not undergo any antifungal treatment. All three groups were subjected to specific diet therapy for mycosis. The patients were initially ev…

Utilizing nutritional genomics to tailor diets for the prevention of cardiovascular disease: a guide for upcoming studies and implementations.
2017
Introduction: Personalized diets based on an individual’s genome to optimize the success of dietary intervention and reduce genetic cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, is one of the challenges most frequently discussed in the scientific community. Areas covered: The authors gathered literature-based evidence on nutritional genomics and CVD phenotypes, our own results and research experience to provide a critical overview of the current situation of using nutritional genomics to tailor diets for CVD prevention and to propose guidelines for future studies and implementations. Expert commentary: Hundreds of studies on gene-diet interactions determining CVD intermediate (plasma lipids, hypertens…
The metabolic syndrome in hypertension: European society of hypertension position statement.
2008
The metabolic syndrome considerably increases the risk of cardiovascular and renal events in hypertension. It has been associated with a wide range of classical and new cardiovascular risk factors as well as with early signs of subclinical cardiovascular and renal damage. Obesity and insulin resistance, beside a constellation of independent factors, which include molecules of hepatic, vascular, and immunologic origin with proinflammatory properties, have been implicated in the pathogenesis. The close relationships among the different components of the syndrome and their associated disturbances make it difficult to understand what the underlying causes and consequences are. At each of these …
Intolerance to hydrolysed cow's milk proteins in infants: clinical characteristics and dietary treatment
2000
Summary Background Multiple food intolerance in infants, including intolerance to extensively hydrolysed proteins (HP), is often difficult to treat. However, few data have been reported on clinical outcome and dietary treatment of these patients. Aims To evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients with HP-intolerance and the longterm outcome of treatment with ass’ milk. Patients and Methods This study included 21 HP-intolerant infants (15 males, median age at diagnosis 2 months) treated with an ass’ milk-based diet and 70 cow’s milk (CM) intolerant infants (40 males, median age at diagnosis 3 months) treated with casein hydrolysate milk-based diet. All patients were followed-up for a …
Dietary strategy for prevention and management of dyslipidemia: international guidelines
2012
Primary prevention of cardiovascular disease should begin with a detailed metabolic study of our patients who must follow a nutritional therapy. Recently, new guidelines ESC/EAS 2011 on the treatment of dyslipidemia have been drawn up, according to which it is possible to arrive at desirable values of cholesterol and triglycerides with a synergy between drug treatment and adequate diet therapy. At this time, Mediterranean diet has been undergoing a radical transformation: there is hyperalimentation of the Mediterranean diet in all its components. The effectiveness of the Mediterranean diet on the reduction of lipids has been demonstrated, and the problem is how to implement this diet in the…
