Bile acid–cysteamine conjugates: Structural properties, gelation, and toxicity evaluation

Abstract Design, synthesis, and characterization of six novel bile acid–cysteamine conjugates together with investigation of their structural studies, gelation properties, and preliminary toxicity evaluation, are reported. Solid state properties of selected compounds were studied by means of X-ray diffraction and 13C CPMAS NMR spectroscopy. N-(2-thioethyl)-3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amide was shown to exhibit (pseudo)polymorphism, and a single crystal structure of its non-stoichiometric hydrate is reported herein. X-Ray crystallographic and computational study on uranyl-salophen complexes bearing nitro groups.

In the solid state, salophen–UO2 complexes bearing one, two, or three NO2 groups lack the pronounced ligand curvature that represents a structural hallmark for this class of compounds. A detailed structural study based on single-crystal X-ray crystallography and computational methods, comprising molecular dynamics, gas-phase Hartree Fock, and DFT calculations, was carried out to investigate the coordination properties of the uranyl cation.

The title molecule, C19H18N4O2{systematic name: (RS)-6-[2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-benzimidazol-5-yl]-5-methyl-4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-one}, adopts an extended conformation. The dihedral angles between the central benzimidazole ring sytem and the pendant methoxyphenyl and pyridazinone residues are 1.41 (18) and 9.7 (3)°, respectively. In the crystal, N—H...N hydrogen bonds link the imadazole groups into [001] chains, and pairs of N—H...O hydrogen bonds link the pyridazinone groups into dimers. Together, these generate a two-dimensional supramolecular structure parallel to (010). The layers are linked by C—H...π interactions.

The objective of this study was to prepare NS-chitosan microparticles for the delivery of 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) to the colon. Microparticles can spread out over a large area of colon allowing a more effective local efficacy of 5-ASA. N-Succinyl-chitosan was chosen as carrier system because of its excellent pharmaceutical properties in colon drug targeting such as poor solubility in acid environment, biocompatibility, mucoadhesive properties, and low toxicity. Compartmentalization of gypsum and halite associated with cyanobacteria in saline soil crusts

The interface between biological and geochemical components in surface crust of a saline soil was investigated using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and variable pressure scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in combination with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometry (EDS). Mineral compounds such as halite and gypsum were identified crystallized around filaments of cyanobacteria. A total of 92 genera were identified from the bacterial community based on 16S gene pyrosequencing analysis. The internal rotational barrier of biphenyl studied with multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2)

A detailedab initio study of the molecular structure and rotational barriers of biphenyl has been performed. First, non-dynamical correlation effects involving the π system are taken into account at the CASSCF level. These wave functions are subsequently employed as reference functions in a multiconfigurational second-order perturbation treatment (CASPT2). The performance single-reference approaches is in addition analysed. The molecular geometries of biphenyl in twisted, coplanar, and perpendicular conformations have been optimized at the CASSCF level. Abstract In this work photoinduced processes and holographic surface relief formation in azobenzene containing low- molecular weight organic glasses were studied. The molecular glasses due to trans-cis isomerisation and photo- orientation of molecules possess high sensitivity to the light irradiation and therefore they are promising media for holographic recording. Electric field of linearly polarized light causes an alignment of molecule dipoles perpendicularly to the electric field vector and this process is accompanied by an appearance of photoinduced optical anisotropy in organic glasses. Structural and functional characterization of enamel pigmentation in shrews.

Pigmented tooth enamel occurs in several vertebrate clades, ranging from mammals to fish. Although an iron compound is associated with this orange to red colored pigmentation, its chemical and structural organization within the enamel is unknown. To determine the nature of the iron compound, we investigated heavily pigmented teeth of the northern short-tailed shrew Blarina brevicauda using combined characterization techniques such as scanning and transmission electron microscopy and synchrotron X-ray diffraction.
