Transmission electron microscopy investigation of oxidation of (110)NiAl single crystal with wedge-shaped profile

Abstract Low energy electron diffraction (LEED), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) investigations of oxidation processes in (110)NiAl single crystal of wedge like shape, i.e., on the sample’s areas of different thickness, were carried out. It was found that in the result of several cycles of ion etching, annealing and oxidation the upper layer of (110)NiAl is enriched with Ni. With the increase of Ni concentration from 50 to 100 at. %, the stoichiometry of the near surface area changes and the new phases of Ni3Al and Ni with Al doping are formed one after another. Reaction Sequence in the Preparation of NiAl2O4 Spinel-Mullite Composites by Sol-Gel

NiAl 2 O 4 spinel-mullite composites were prepared by simultaneous replacement of Al by Ti and/or Ni in 3:2 stoichiometric mullite. Specimens having nominal compositions 3(Al 2-2x Ni x Ti x O 3 ).2SiO 2 (x = 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.2) and 3(Al 2-x M x O 3) .2SiO 2 (M = Ni 2+ or Ti 4+ and x = 0.05) were synthesized by sol-gel techniques, which provide homogeneous gels in the SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 system. Gel structures investigated by infrared (IR) spectroscopy revealed the formation of Al-O-Si bonds in dried gels. Wavelength tuning of femtosecond pulses generated in nonlinear crystals by using diffractive lenses

We demonstrate that diffractive lenses (DLs) can be used as a simple method to tune the central wavelength of femtosecond pulses generated from second-order nonlinear optical processes in birefringent crystals. The wavelength tunability is achieved by changing the relative distance between the nonlinear crystal and the DL, which acts in a focusing configuration. Besides the many practical applications of the so-generated pulses, the proposed method might be extended to other wavelength ranges by demonstrated similar effects on other nonlinear processes, such as high-order harmonic generation.

Observation of charmonium pairs produced exclusively in $pp$ collisions

A search is performed for the central exclusive production of pairs of charmonia produced in proton-proton collisions. Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3{\rm\ fb}^{-1}$ collected at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, $J/\psi J/\psi$ and $J/\psi\psi(2S)$ pairs are observed, which have been produced in the absence of any other activity inside the LHCb acceptance that is sensitive to charged particles in the pseudorapidity ranges $(-3.5,-1.5)$ and $(1.5,5.0)$. Searches are also performed for pairs of P-wave charmonia and limits are set on their production. Effect of reflections on phase hologram recording in amorphous As-S-Se films

Experimental and theoretical studies of phase hologram recording in amorphous As-S-Se films with slightly wedge-shaped thickness profile are presented. It is shown that Fabry-Perot resonator effect caused by the interference of multiply reflected light beams inside the sample strongly changes the values of diffraction efficiency and its growth rate as well as the exposure time dependences of diffraction efficiency and transmissivity making them site-dependent and sample-dependent. On the metal distribution in the system GeTe−Sb2Te3

The structures of GeSb2Te4, Ge2Sb2Te5 and GeSb4Te7 are not determined completely by means of classical X-ray or electron diffraction studies. We have measured the Mossbauer parameters of121Sb in these compounds as well as in their binary constituent Sb2Te3 as an attempt to improve our knowledge on the question.

Incoherent diffractiveJ/Ψproduction in high-energy nuclear deep-inelastic scattering

We compute cross sections for incoherent diffractive $J/\ensuremath{\Psi}$ production in lepton-nucleus deep-inelastic scattering (DIS). The cross section is proportional to $A$ in the dilute limit and to ${A}^{1/3}$ in the black disk limit, with a large nuclear suppression due to saturation effects. The $t$ dependence of the cross section, if it can be measured accurately enough, is sensitive to the impact parameter profile of the gluons in the nucleus and their fluctuations, a quantity that determines the initial conditions of a relativistic heavy-ion collision. Coupling between counterpropagating cladding modes in fiber Bragg gratings

We present an experimental demonstration of energy transfer between counterpropagating cladding modes in a fiber Bragg grating (FBG). A strong FBG written in a standard photosensitive optical fiber is illuminated with a single cladding mode, and the power transferred between the forward propagating cladding mode and different backward propagating cladding modes is measured by using two auxiliary long period gratings. Resonances between cladding modes having 30 pm bandwidth and 8 dB rejection have been observed.

Tunable microwave photonic filter based on chirped fiber gratings working with a single optical carrier at constant wavelength

This paper presents a tunable transversal filter working with a single optical carrier at constant wavelength. The filter consists of a set of chirped gratings whose time delay is tuned with respect to the emission wavelength of a fiber laser by a piezoelectric actuator; extra lengths of fiber are inserted in the filter arms in order to avoid interferences between signals reflected in different gratings. Two and three taps filters are experimentally demonstrated, the filters transfer function is electronically tuned within the free spectral range.
