Studies on atomic layer deposition of IRMOF-8 thin films

Deposition of IRMOF-8 thin films by atomic layer deposition was studied at 260–320 C. Zinc acetate and 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid were used as the precursors. The as-deposited amorphous films were crystallized in 70% relative humidity at room temperature resulting in an unknown phase with a large unit cell. An autoclave with dimethylformamide as the solvent was used to recrystallize the films into IRMOF-8 as confirmed by grazing incidence x-ray diffraction. SUMMARY In volcanoes, topography, shallow heterogeneity and even shallow morphology can substantially modify seismic coda signals. Coda waves are an essential tool to monitor eruption dynamics and model volcanic structures jointly and independently from velocity anomalies: it is thus fundamental to test their spatial sensitivity to seismic path effects. Heptane adsorption in silicalite-1 : molecular dynamics simulation.

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been used to study the adsorption process of n-heptane molecules in silicalite-1 at 300 K. MD simulated results were compared to experimental neutron diffraction (ND) and experimental self-diffusion coefficients. The analysis of MD data indicated a packing of the adsorbed molecules around 4 mol./u.c., which is not the consequence of an enthalpic effect but of an entropic effect. The role of the n-heptane chain flexibility (cis–trans conformation) in relation with the silicalite-1 channel type (straight versus sinusoidal) was outlined and enabled to understand the mobility change arising at 4 mol./u.c., according to previous experimental results. Streptococcus suis is an encapsulated bacterium and one of the most important swine pathogens and a zoonotic agent for which no effective vaccine exists. Bacterial capsular polysaccharides (CPSs) are poorly immunogenic, but anti-CPS antibodies are essential to the host defense against encapsulated bacteria. In addition to the previously known serotypes 2 and 14, that are non-immunogenic, we have recently purified and described the CPS structures for serotypes 1, 1/2, 3, 7, 8, and 9. The new metal organic compound nickel(II) 3,4;9,10-perylenediimide bis-phosphonate pentahydrate, i.e. Ni-2[(PDI-BP)-(H2O)(2)]center dot 3H(2)O (1), has been synthesized and its structural and magnetic properties have been studied. Reaction of 3,4;9,10-perylenediimide bisphosphonate (PDI-BP, hereafter) ligand and nickel chloride in water resulted in the precipitation of a red and poorly crystalline solid (1). Earlier excavations and survey at Vagnari furnished hardly any evidence for the use of marble at the site, and so the vicus was considered to be a low status settlement, with only a few rooms having been elegant enough to decorate them with marble floors or revetment. The fragments recovered were not analysed scientifically to determine the location of the quarries from which the marbles came. Of particular interest, however, were two small fragments of inscriptions on white marble retrieved from the rubble fill dumped in the 4th century AD in the reservoir. Ferroelastic transition in Kbr:Kcn studied by neutrons, x-rays and ultrasonic

The ferroelastic phase transition of (KBr) 0 27 (KNC) 0.73 has been studied by X-ray diffraction, ultrasonics and inelastic neutron scattering. It is the first example of a cubic crystal where the elastic shear constant C 44 softens completely corresponding to the m = 2 universality class. C 44 and the Bragg intensities show a non-classical critical behaviour.
Space-variant simultaneous detection of several objects by the use of multiple anamorphic fractional-Fourier-transform filters.

A fractional correlator that is based on the anamorphic fractional Fourier transform is defined. This new, to our knowledge, correlator has been extended to work with multiple filters. The novelty introduced by the suggested system is the possibility of the simultaneous detection of several objects in different parts of the input scene (when anamorphic optics are dealt with), thereby permitting an independent degree of space invariance in two perpendicular directions. Computer experiments as well as experimental optical implementation are presented.
Periodic time-domain modulation for the electrically tunable control of optical pulse train envelope and repetition rate multiplication

An electrically tunable system for the control of optical pulse sequences is proposed and demonstrated. It is based on the use of an electrooptic modulator for periodic phase modulation followed by a dispersive device to obtain the temporal Talbot effect. The proposed configuration allows for repetition rate multiplication with different multiplication factors and with the simultaneous control of the pulse train envelope by simply changing the electrical signal driving the modulator. Simulated and experimental results for an input optical pulse train of 10 GHz are shown for different multiplication factors and envelope shapes. © 2006 IEEE.
Radon–Wigner display: a compact optical implementation with a single varifocal lens

A new optical implementation of the Radon‐Wigner display for one-dimensional objects is presented, making use of the fractional Fourier transform approach. The proposed setup makes use of only two conventional refractive elements: a cylindrical lens and a varifocal lens. Although the exact magnifications cannot be achieved simultaneously for all the fractional transforms, an optimum design can be obtained through balancing the conflicting magnification requirements. Experimental results are obtained with a commercially available progressive addition lens. For comparison, computer simulations are also provided. © 1997 Optical Society of America
