Super-resolved Imaging based upon spatial depolarization of light

2010

In this paper we present a new approach allowing the surpassing of the diffraction based limitation for the achievable resolution provided by imaging systems. It is based on an encoding-decoding process of various spatial pixels or regions in the field of view of the imaged object by orthogonal and differently time varying polarization states. The reconstruction of the original spatial information is obtained by applying a decoding process in a way similar to the encoding one. Although all the spatial information is summed and mixed together by the system, the decoding provides super resolved imaging since in every spatial position the undesired spatial information having time varying polar…

Halogen and hydrogen bonds in compressed pentachloroethane

2016

In pentachloroethane, C2HCl5, high pressure initially strongly compresses the C–H⋯Cl bonds in phase I; however, in phase II which is stable above 0.62 GPa the role of hydrogen bonds is diminished and molecular aggregation is dominated by halogen bonds Cl⋯Cl. Both phases have been determined by X-ray diffraction and the phase diagram of C2HCl5 has been outlined. The transition between phases I and II retains some relation between their structures and reduces the symmetry from class mmm (space group Pnma) to 2/m (space group P21/n11). The discontinuous transition, with the shear strain exceeding 21°, is so strong that its progress can be visually observed even for powdered samples. The single…

Focal plane array infrared camera transfer function calculation and image restoration

2004

Infrared images often present distortions induced by the measurement system. Image processing is thus an essential part of infrared measurements. A distortion model based on a convolution product is presented. The analytical form of the convolution kernel has been obtained from an image formation theory, along with an analysis of the sampling of the focal plane array camera detector's matrix. Image restoration is an ill-posed problem, and its solution can be obtained using regularization methods. In this work, image restoration is performed using a variation of Tikhonov regularization that makes use of the particular form of the convolution kernel matrix, which is built as a block-circulant…

Physical Properties of Ba0.95Pb0.05TiO3+0.1%Co2O3

2012

The single-phase perovskite structure of the Ba0.95Pb0.05TiO3+0.1%Co2O3 ceramics was confirmed by the X-ray diffraction method. Microstructural studies revealed that the samples were of good quality and chemically homogeneous. The thermal behaviour of ceramics was studied using the in situ high-temperature X-ray synchrotron powder diffraction investigation. The energy gap of about 3.2 eV was estimated using a reflectance spectroscopy. Measurements showed the influence of Pb and Co on the character of phase transition in the BaTiO3 structure. The results were compared to the ones obtained for pure BaTiO3.

Toward new organic/inorganic superlattices: Keggin polyoxometalates in Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films

1997

The effect of Keggin heteropolyoxotungstates (XW12O40n- with X = H2, P, Si, B or Co) on Langmuir films has been studied for monolayers of DODA (dimethyldioctadecylammonium) and DPPC (1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine). Marked modifications of the compression isotherms have been observed when the Keggin anions were dissolved in the subphase:  this demonstrates that the polyanions interact with the monolayer. Langmuir−Blodgett (LB) films have been readily obtained from these systems (even with DPPC) for a particular range in polyanion concentration. X-ray diffraction and infrared dichroism experiments have shown a well-defined lamellar structure for these built-up films as well a…

Growth and characterization of self-assembled Cd1−xMgxO (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) nanoparticles on r-sapphire substrates

2014

In this work, the growth of isolated Cd1−xMgxO nanoparticles on r-sapphire substrates is extended to the entire range of Mg content (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) using the spray pyrolysis method. The sizes of the Cd1−xMgxO nanoparticles were in the ranges 4–6 nm and 15–30 nm (with a nanoparticle density of 1010 cm−2). The composition of the nanoparticles was determined using transmission electron microscopy energy dispersive X-ray analysis (TEM-EDAX), while the compound formation was confirmed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A systematic decrease in the a lattice parameter of Cd1−xMgxO on increasing the Mg content substantiated the successful incorporation of Mg2+ ions into the cubic CdO lattice. Sin…

High-pressure structural and lattice dynamical study ofHgWO4

2010

We have synthesized monoclinic mercury tungstate $({\text{HgWO}}_{4})$ and characterized its structural and vibrational properties at room conditions. Additionally, we report the structural and lattice dynamical behavior of ${\text{HgWO}}_{4}$ under high pressure studied by means of x-ray diffraction and Raman-scattering measurements up to 16 GPa and 25 GPa, respectively. The pressure dependence of the structural parameters and Raman-active first-order phonons of monoclinic $C2/c$ ${\text{HgWO}}_{4}$ are discussed in the light of our theoretical first-principles total-energy and lattice dynamics calculations. Our measurements show that the monoclinic phase of ${\text{HgWO}}_{4}$ is stable u…

Optically Forged Diffraction-Unlimited Ripples in Graphene

2018

In nanofabrication, just as in any other craft, the scale of spatial details is limited by the dimensions of the tool at hand. For example, the smallest details for direct laser writing with far-field light are set by the diffraction limit, which is approximately half of the used wavelength. In this work, we overcome this universal assertion by optically forging graphene ripples that show features with dimensions unlimited by diffraction. Thin sheet elasticity simulations suggest that the scaled-down ripples originate from the interplay between substrate adhesion, in-plane strain, and circular symmetry. The optical forging technique thus offers an accurate way to modify and shape two-dimens…

Generation of Bessel beam arrays through Dammann gratings.

2012

In this work we apply the Dammann grating concept to generate an equal-intensity square array of Bessel quasi-free diffraction beams that diverge from a common center. We generate a binary phase mask that combines the axicon phase with the phase of a Dammann grating. The procedure can be extended to include vortex spiral phases that generate an array of optical pipes. Experimental results are provided by means of a twisted nematic liquid crystal display operating as a binary π phase spatial light modulator.
