Ultralow thermal conductivity in 1D and 2D imidazolium-based lead halide perovskites

2021

Low-dimensional hybrid organic–inorganic metal halide perovskites are rapidly emerging as a fascinating sub-class of the three-dimensional parent structures, thanks to their appealing charge and thermal transport properties, paired to better chemical and thermal stabilities. Extensive investigations of the thermal behavior in these systems are of paramount relevance to understand their optoelectronic and thermoelectric applications. Herein, we present a complete thermophysical characterization of imidazolium lead iodide, (IMI)PbI3, a 1D pseudo-perovskite with chains of face-sharing octahedra, and histammonium lead iodide, (HIST)PbI4, a 2D layered perovskite with corner-sharing octahedra. Water barrier properties of treated-papers and application to sponge cake storage

2006

Abstract Water barrier properties of three treated papers and of one plastic film were compared and the potential of these packaging films to prevent moisture loss from a sponge cake during storage in standard conditions (25 °C and 50% relative humidity gradient) was evaluated. Sorption isotherms were established at 25 °C for both sponge cake and papers, from which diffusivity values in papers were determined for the whole range of A w . Permeability of packaging films was determined in standard conditions. Water sorption was close for all papers, regardless of their treatment, whereas water diffusivity was reduced by coating or calendering. Water vapor permeability in papers was controlled…

Transport properties of 2F = F2 in a temperature gradient as studied by molecular dynamics simulations

2007

International audience; We calculate transport properties of a reacting mixture of F and F2 from results of nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The reaction investigated is controlled by thermal diffusion and is close to local chemical equilibrium. The simulations show that a formulation of the transport problem in terms of classical non-equilibrium thermodynamics theory is sound. The chemical reaction has a large effect on the magnitude and temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity and the interdiffusion coefficient. The increase in the thermal conductivity in the presence of the chemical reaction, can be understood as a response to an imposed temperature gradient, whic…

Tritium release behavior of beryllium pebbles after neutron irradiation between 523 and 823K

2013

Abstract Post-irradiation tritium release from the Pebble Bed Assembly (PBA) neutron-irradiated beryllium (Be) pebbles (∅ ≈ 1 mm; the total tritium inventory 2–4 GBq/g) was investigated on annealing in He + 0.1% H 2 . Temperature ramps of 2.3 K/min followed by annealing for 1 h at 1310–1320 K resulted in complete detritiation of the PBA Be pebbles. The tritium burst release occurred after a time lag of 1–6.5 h during constant temperature anneals at 1089–1180 K, with the release time measured after reaching the annealing temperature. Tritium burst release was also observed to occur during cool down. Anneals at 1089 K for 8 h and at 1045 K for 23 h caused detritiation of the PBA Be pebbles by…

Oxygen Diffusion Constants D and K of Tumor Tissue (DS-Carcinosarcoma) and Their Temperature Dependence

1978

To understand more thoroughly the tumor O2 supply conditions, knowledge of O2 diffusivity in tumor tissue is required. Since exact measurements of the O2 diffusion constants of tumor tissue have not been carried out to date, previous investigations of tumor O2 supply had to employ estimated values (6 – 8, 10). The results of these studies are in part contradictory.

Determination of the Porosity, Permeability and Diffusivity of Rock in the Excavation-Disturbed Zone Around Full-Scale Deposition Holes Using the He-…

1999

AbstractIn a nuclear waste repository, rock in the excavation-disturbed zone adjacent to the walls of deposition holes for waste canisters is a potential pathway for the transport of corrosive agents and radionuclides. Three experimental holes the size of deposition holes in a KBS-3 type repository (depth 7.5 m and diameter 1.5 m) were bored in hard granitic rock in the Research Tunnel at Olkiluoto and the porosities, effective diffusivities and permeabilities of rock in the excavation-disturbed zone were determined in a direction parallel to the disturbed surface using He-gas methods. Permeability and diffusivity in a direction parallel to the rock schistosity was found to be clearly large…

Effective thermal conductivity of helium II: from Landau to Gorter–Mellink regimes

2014

The size-dependent and flux-dependent effective thermal conductivity of narrow channels filled with He II is analyzed. The classical Landau evaluation of the effective thermal conductivity of quiescent He II is extended to describe the transition to fully turbulent regime, where the heat flux is proportional to the cubic root of the temperature gradient (Gorter–Mellink regime). To do so, we use an expression for the quantum vortex line density L in terms of the heat flux considering the influence of the walls. From it, and taking into account the friction force of normal component against the vortices, we compute the effective thermal conductivity as a function of the heat flux, and we disc…

Diffusivity in force-free simulations of global magnetospheres

2021

Abstract: Assuming that the numerical diffusivity triggered by violations of the force-free electrodynamics constraints is a proxy for the physical resistivity, we examine its impact on the overall dynamics of force-free aligned pulsar magnetospheres endowed with an equatorial current sheet. We assess the constraint violations as a diffusivity source. The effects of modifications on electric fields used to restore force-free conditions are not confined to the equatorial current sheet, but modify the magnetospheric dynamics on timescales shorter than the pulsar rotational period. These corrections propagate especially via a channel that was unexplored, namely, changes induced to the electric…

Thermal Diffusion and Particle Separation in Ferrocolloids

1999

Results of experiments on thermal diffusion in ferrocolloids are discussed in the paper. The Soret coefficient is evaluated from measurements of particle separation in thermodiffusion column. To interpret the separation curves measured in the presence of a magnetic field, the column theory is modified taking into account for MHD effects of free convection. It is shown that the Hartmann effect in hydrocarbon based colloids as well in ionic magnetic fluids does not influence significantly the particle separation dynamics. From unsteady separation curves positive values of the Soret coefficient of surfacted particles in tetradecane based colloids are calculated. Such direction of particle tran…

1989

Heat of crystallization significantly slows down polymer cooling and thus pressure drop increase during mould filling with thermoplastic crystalline polymers. If a correction of thermal diffusivity can account for such a cooling slow down at least as far as the effect on pressure drop is concerned, the use of nonisothermal crystallization kinetics may be avoided in the simulation of mould filling. A procedure to identify such a correction is outlined in this work. Pressure drop values during cavity filling calculated by using a corrected thermal diffusivity in the model proposed by Lord and Williams favourably compare with literature data taken with polypropylene and polyethylene resins. Be…
