Quantitative Phase Imaging in Microscopy Using a Spatial Light Modulator

2010

In this chapter, we present a new method capable of recovery of the quantitative phase information of microscopic samples. Essentially, a spatial light modulator (SLM) and digital image processing are the basics to extract the sample’s phase distribution. The SLM produces a set of misfocused images of the input sample at the CCD plane by displaying a set of lenses with different power at the SLM device. The recorded images are then numerically processed to retrieve phase information. Computations are based on the wave propagation equation and lead to a complex amplitude image containing information of both amplitude and phase distributions of the input sample diffracted wave front. The prop…

Reaction-Diffusion Network For Geometric Multiscale High Speed Image Processing

2010

International audience; In the framework of heavy mid-level processing for high speed imaging, a nonlinear bi-dimensional network is proposed, allowing the implementation of active curve algorithms. Usually this efficient type of algorithm is prohibitive for real-time image processing due to its calculus charge and the inadequate structure for the use of serial or parallel architectures. Another kind of implementation philosophy is proposed here, by considering the active curve generated by a propagation phenomenon inspired from biological modeling. A programmable nonlinear reaction-diffusion system is proposed under front control and technological constraints. Geometric multiscale processin…

Ontology-driven Image Analysis for Histopathological Images

2010

International audience; Ontology-based software and image processing engine must cooperate in new fields of computer vision like microscopy acquisition wherein the amount of data, concepts and processing to be handled must be properly controlled. Within our own platform, we need to extract biological objects of interest in huge size and high-content microscopy images. In addition to specific low-level image analysis procedures, we used knowledge formalization tools and high-level reasoning ability of ontology-based software. This methodology made it possible to improve the expressiveness of the clinical models, the usability of the platform for the pathologist and the sensitivity or sensibi…

Detection of Duplicated Regions in Tampered Digital Images by Bit-Plane Analysis

2009

In this paper we present a new method for searching duplicated areas in a digital image. The goal is to detect if an image has been tampered by a copy-move process. Our method works within a convenient domain. The image to be analyzed is decomposed in its bit-plane representation. Then, for each bitplane, block of bits are encoded with an ASCII code, and a sequence of strings is analyzed rather than the original bit-plane. The sequence is lexicographically sorted and similar groups of bits are extracted as candidate areas, and passed to the following plane to be processed. Output of the last planes indicates if, and where, the image has been altered.

A reconfigurable architecture for autonomous visual-navigation

2003

This paper describes the design of a reconfigurable architecture for implementing image processing algorithms. This architecture is a pipeline of small identical processing elements that contain a programmable logic device (FPGA) and double port memories. This processing system has been adapted to accelerate the computation of differential algorithms. The log-polar vision selectively reduces the amount of data to be processed and simplifies several vision algorithms, making possible their implementation using few hard-ware resources. The reconfigurable architecture design has been devoted to implementation, and has been employed in an autonomous platform, which has power consumption, size a…

High Level Modeling and Hardware Implementation of Image Processing Algorithms Using XSG

2019

International audience; Design of Systems-on-Chip has become very common especially with the remarkable advances in the field of high-level system modeling. In recent years, Matlab also offers a Simulink interface for the design of hardware systems. From a high-level specification, Matlab provides self-generation of HDL codes and/or FPGA configuration codes while providing other benefits of easy simulation. In addition, a large part of the Systems-on-Chip use at least one image processing algorithm and at the same time border detection is one of the most used algorithms. This paper presents a study and a hardware implementation of various algorithms of borders detection realized under Xilin…

Intensity invariant nonlinear correlation filtering in spatially disjoint noise.

2010

We analyze the performance of a nonlinear correlation called the Locally Adaptive Contrast Invariant Filter in the presence of spatially disjoint noise under the peak-to-sidelobe ratio (PSR) metric. We show that the PSR using the nonlinear correlation improves as the disjoint noise intensity increases, whereas, for common linear filtering, it goes to zero. Experimental results as well as comparisons with a classical matched filter are given.

ON THE CONCEPT OF THE ENHANCED FON CATALOG COMPILATION

2017

We suppose to compile the enhanced version of FON (Photographic Survey of the Northern Sky) catalog of stellar positions and B-magnitudes in the sky region from -20 to 90 degrees on declination. The photographic base of the project comprises about 5,700 plates obtained at three observatories of the former SU MAO NAS of Ukraine, Kitab observatoryof Uzbekistan and Gissar observatory of Tajikistan. The mean epoch of the catalog is around 1988. The expected limited stellar magnitude is 17.5m. More than 5,400 plates are processed to support the photometric part of the catalog. The plates were shot on the 1.2 m Schmidt telescope in Baldone, Latvia, in the U and V bands. Color data provide the pos…

Digital Acquisition and Processing of Video Angiocardiograms

1986

Angiocardiographic diagnosis is still mainly based on the visual assessment of radiographic projection images recorded on photographic film. Considerable amounts of contrast material have to be selectively injected into the circulation in order to make the regions of diagnostic relevance visible in the superposition of the shadows of tissue and bone structures displayed in these transmission images. In addition, selective angiocardiography requires exact positioning of the catheter, a time-consuming procedure which is not without risk. The processing of the angiographie films obtained is difficult to maintain at a constant high quality level, and this introduces an disadvantageous delay bet…
