Search for the Xb and other hidden-beauty states in the π+π−ϒ(1S) channel at ATLAS

2015

This Letter presents a search for a hidden-beauty counterpart of the X(3872) in the mass ranges 10.05--10.31 GeV and 10.40--11.00 GeV, in the channel Xb→π+π−Υ(1S)(→μ+μ−), using 16.2 fb−1 of s√=8 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No evidence for new narrow states is found, and upper limits are set on the product of the Xb cross section and branching fraction, relative to those of the Υ(2S), at the 95% confidence level using the CLS approach. These limits range from 0.8% to 4.0%, depending on mass. For masses above 10.1 GeV, the expected upper limits from this analysis are the most restrictive to date. Searches for production of the Υ(13DJ), Υ(10860), and Υ(110…

Landmark identification on direct digital versus film-based cephalometric radiographs: A human skull study

2002

The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in landmark identification on vertically scanned, direct digital and conventional (18 x 24 cm) cephalometric radiographs. Eight observers, all orthodontists or postgraduate orthodontic students, recorded 6 landmarks twice on 3 digital and 3 conventional cephalograms obtained from 3 human skulls in a standardized fashion. Digital images were displayed on a 15.1-in TFT monitor in 3:1 mode (20 x 26 cm). Recordings were transferred into standardized coordinate systems and evaluated separately for each coordinate. After correcting for magnification, precision was assessed with Maloney-Rastogi tests, and intraobserver and interobserver repr…

Computer-aided diagnosis in digital mammography: comparison of two commercial systems

2014

Aim: Within this work, a comparative analysis of two commercial computer-aided detection or diagnosis (CAD) systems, CyclopusCAD® mammo (v. 6.0) produced by CyclopusCAD Ltd (Palermo, Italy) and SecondLook® (v. 6.1C) produced by iCAD Inc. (OH, USA) is performed by evaluating the results of both systems application on an unique set of mammographic digital images routinely acquired in a hospital structure. Materials & methods: The two CAD systems have been separately applied on a sample set of 126 mammographic digital cases, having been independently diagnosed by two senior radiologists. According to the human diagnosis, the cases in the sample reference set are divided into 61 negatives and 6…

Comparison of Histochemical Staining Methods and Correlation with Transient Elastography in Acute Hepatitis.

2014

Objective: To compare Masson's trichrome (MT), Sirius red (SR) and orcein staining in acute hepatitis (AH) and to correlate them with transient elastography (TE), a noninvasive method to assess hepatic fibrosis. Methods: We evaluated liver stiffness by TE in a cohort of 34 consecutive patients and assessed MT-, SR- and orcein-stained biopsies using the METAVIR scoring system and digital image analysis (DIA). Results: MT and SR both showed severe fibrosis (stage III-IV, DIA = 12.7%). Orcein showed absent or mild fibrosis (stage 0-II, DIA = 4.…

Full-field automatic evaluation of an isoclinic parameter in white light

1997

In this paper, a technique for full-field evaluation of the isoclinic parameter is presented. It combines the phase-shifting method with true color imaging technology to minimize the interaction between isoclinic and isochromatic fringes. The paper also shows how the proposed technique can be suitably integrated with known methods for evaluating the retardations. Furthermore, a digital algorithm for filtering wrapped phase data obtained by general phase-shifting techniques is presented.

Phase shifting photoelasticity in white light

2007

The availability of image acquisition systems has led to the development of digital photoelasticity both in monochromatic and white light. In particular white light has been used mainly with the following methods: Spectral Content Analysis, RGB photoelasticity and phase shifting photoelasticity. Phase shifting photoelasticity in the colour domain has been used effectively for the determination of the isoclinic parameter in order to reduce the influence of the isochromatic fringes. The method has been also proposed for the determination of the isochromatic fringe order. This paper concerns the general characteristics of phase shifting photoelasticity in the colour domain. Special attention i…

Amplitude- and truncated partial-wave analyses combined: A single-channel method for extracting photoproduction multipoles directly from measured data

2020

Amplitude- and truncated partial-wave analyses are combined into a single-channel method for extracting multipoles directly from measured data. In practice, we have created a two-step procedure which is fit to the same database: in the first step we perform an energy-independent amplitude analysis where continuity is achieved by constraining the amplitude phase, and the result of this first step is then taken as a constraint for the second step where a constrained, energy-independent, truncated partial-wave analysis is done. The method is tested on the world collection of data for $\ensuremath{\eta}$ photoproduction, and the obtained fit results are very good. The sensitivity to different p…

Displacement Measurement Through Digital Image Correlation and Digital Speckle Pattern Interferometry Techniques in Cold-Expanded Holes

2010

:  In this paper, the displacement field induced by the split-sleeve cold expansion of holes was measured using both digital image correlation (DIC) and digital speckle pattern interferometry (DSPI) techniques. Thus, the experimental results, which were evaluated on the inlet surface of a 6082-T6 aluminium plate, were compared with those from theoretical prediction. DIC provided accurate measurements up to the elastic–plastic boundary, whereas the DSPI technique highlighted the changes of displacement in the elastic domain. Prediction of the displacement based on the existing analytical model agreed with the experimental results achieved with both techniques. Possible explanations for the d…
