State of the art in passive digital image forgery detection: copy-move image forgery

2017

Authenticating digital images is increasingly becoming important because digital images carry important information and due to their use in different areas such as courts of law as essential pieces of evidence. Nowadays, authenticating digital images is difficult because manipulating them has become easy as a result of powerful image processing software and human knowledge. The importance and relevance of digital image forensics has attracted various researchers to establish different techniques for detection in image forensics. The core category of image forensics is passive image forgery detection. One of the most important passive forgeries that affect the originality of the image is cop…

Why you trust in visual saliency

2015

Image understanding is a simple task for a human observer. Visual attention is automatically pointed to interesting regions by a natural objective stimulus in a first step and by prior knowledge in a second step. Saliency maps try to simulate human response and use actual eye-movements measurements as ground truth. An interesting question is: how much corruption in a digital image can affect saliency detection respect to the original image? One of the contributions of this work is to compare the performances of standard approaches with respect to different type of image corruptions and different threshold values on saliency maps. If the corruption can be estimated and/or the threshold is fi…

Restoration of Digitized Damaged Photos using Bit-Plane Slicing

2007

Digital image restoration aims to recover damaged zones of a digital image, using surrounding information. In this paper we propose a novel approach, based on bit-plane slicing decomposition, with the purpose to make information analysis and reconstruction process easy, fast and effective. Tests have been made on digitized damaged old photos to restore several classes of typical defects in old photographic prints.

Retargeting Framework Based on Monte-carlo Sampling

2015

Advance in image technology and proliferation of acquisition devices like smartphones, digital cameras, etc., made the display of digital images ubiquitous. Many displays exist in the market, spanning within a large variety of resolutions and shapes. Thus, displaying content optimizing the available number of pixels has become a very important issue in the multimedia community, and the image retargeting problem is being widely faced. In this work, we propose an image retargeting framework based on monte-carlo sampling. We operate the non-homogeneous resizing as the composition of several simple atomic resizing functions. The shape of such atomic operator can be chosen within a set of tested…

Wooden Surface Investigation: an Optical Approach Based on Shadow Moiré

2007

The interest in the mechanical behaviour of wood is a very important task due to the increasing role played by wood structures in modern architecture as well as its applicability in restoration of ancient buildings. The behaviour of wooden surfaces experiencing variable humidity conditions is of great importance both with concern to performances of wooden building’s structures and to ensure correct restoration and conservation of art works like wooden sculptures and panel paintings [1]. In literature there are only a few studies dealing with the influence of moisture on the physical properties of wood [1,2]. The characterization of wooden behaviour related to changes in the humidity level c…

Energy balance in single exposure multispectral sensors

2013

International audience; Recent simulations of multispectral sensors are based on a simple Gaussian model, which includes filters transmittance and substrate absorption. In this paper we want to make the distinction between these two layers. We discuss the balance of energy by channel in multispectral solid state sensors and propose an updated simple Gaussian model to simulate multispectral sensors. Results are based on simulation of typical sensor configurations.

Single-channel polychromatic pattern recognition by the use of a joint-transform correlator.

2010

We present a single-channel system for color image recognition that is based on a joint-transform correlator setup. The color images are encoded as phase and amplitude functions, inspired from the Munsell color representation. A real-time implementation of the new codification method can be achieved by the use of a spatial light modulator operating in phase-only modulation mode. We determine the optimal codification for a linear color-phase code. Its performance is compared with a conventional multichannel correlator by means of computer simulations. Experimental results are also presented.

Salient Pixels and Dimensionality Reduction for Display of Multi/Hyperspectral Images

2012

International audience; Dimensionality Reduction (DR) of spectral images is a common approach to different purposes such as visualization, noise removal or compression. Most methods such as PCA or band selection use either the entire population of pixels or a uniformly sampled subset in order to compute a projection matrix. By doing so, spatial information is not accurately handled and all the objects contained in the scene are given the same emphasis. Nonetheless, it is possible to focus the DR on the separation of specific Objects of Interest (OoI), simply by neglecting all the others. In PCA for instance, instead of using the variance of the scene in each spectral channel, we show that i…
