This paper presents the case of the resistance to dilution in workshops in and around Glasgow in 1915 and 1916. Dilution was devised by the British government as a way of reorganising the means of production in order to better suit the requirements of the war industry. The government resorted to several Acts of Parliament to implement dilution, censor the press and jail and/ or deport local shop stewards who engaged in a fierce movement of resistance. This short episode of the working class movement in the West of Scotland opposed the shop stewards not only to the British government and their employers but also to their official union representatives. Abstract Veterinarian and human pharmaceuticals may be intentionally added to animal feed to enhance animal production. Monitoring these substances is necessary for protecting the consumers. In this work, a screening method covering 116 human and veterinary drugs has been developed and validated in five types of animal feed at 0.02 and 0.2 mg kg−1. After a simple extraction and dilution, the samples were analysed by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF MS). Molar growth yields ofZymomonas mobilis on glucose after the transition from anaerobic to aerobic continuous growth

An increase in the molar growth yield (Y X/S = 14.3-20.3 g/mol) on glucose (25 mM) was achieved after the transition of Zymomonas mobilis ATCC 29191 from anaerobic to aerobic steady state growth at dilution rates of D = 0.31-0.40 1/h and under oxygen-unlimited conditions. The transfer of anaerobically or aerobically grown steady state cells into a fresh medium resulted in the higher values of Y X/S . A positive correlation was established between biomass and acetaldehyde yield within the range of 5-9 mM acetaldehyde in the medium. The aim of this study was to explore the mercury methylating capability of (1) intestinal microbiota of the soil-living earthworm Eisenia foetida (E. foetida) and (2) intestinal sulfate reducing-bacteria in pure cultures. Toxoplasma gondii is a major food and waterborne transmitted parasite world-wide. The tissues and meat samples of many warm blooded animals can contain tissues cysts from chronic toxoplasmosis. Water and vegetable can be contaminated by the parasitic oocysts shed through the feces of infected cats, representing the definitive host of the parasite. Thermodynamic studies of octyltrimethylammonium chloride in water

Densities, heat capacities, enthalpies of dilution at 298 K and osmotic coefficients at 310 K of octyltrimethylammonium chloride were measured as functions of concentration. From the experimental data, the partial molar volumes, heat capacities, relative enthalpies, nonideal free energies and entropies at 298 K were derived as functions of concentration. Dilute solutions of the sodium salt of polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSS-Na) were measured viscometrically as a function of composition in aqueous solvents of different salinity, where the extra salt was either NaCl or CaCl2. Such experiments yield {η}, the generalized intrinsic viscosities (hydrodynamic specific volume) of the polyelectrolyte for arbitrary polymer concentrations, c.
