On inductive dimensions for fuzzy topological spaces
1995
An approach to the dimension theory for fuzzy topological spaces is being developed. The appropriate context for this theory is not the category CFT of Chang fuzzy topological spaces or some of its modifications, but the category Hut introduced in the paper (this category is a slight extension of the category H of Hutton fuzzy topological spaces Hutton (1980). The frames of this category allow us to make exposition simple and uniform, and on the other hand to make it applicable in quite a general setting.
Equivalence relations among homology 3-spheres and the Johnson filtration
2021
The Torelli group of a surface consists of isotopy classes of homeomorphisms of this surface acting trivially at the homological level. The structure of the Torelli group can be approached by the study and the comparison of two filtrations of this group: its lower central series, and the "Johnson" filtration, given by the kernels of the natural actions on the successive nilpotent quotients of the fundamental group of the surface. It is now known that there are, via the notion of "Heegaard splittings", rich interactions between this 2-dimensional study and the study of some 3-manifolds topological invariants: we refer here precisely to the so-called "finite-type" invariants. In this PhD, we …
Leadership ethical dimension: a requirement in TQM implementation
2002
Deals with theoretical arguments that justify why the leadership of managers and its ethical dimension is a powerful enabler for TQM efforts to sustain, together with a systematic management. Starts by setting out a multidimensional conception of leadership in which the ethical sphere is explicitly considered. The principles articulating TQM are then analysed, studying the role of leadership and its ethical dimension, in their implementation. Concludes with five propositions, stating that the explicit consideration of leadership’s ethical dimension is required in order to achieve a complete, deep and sustained deployment of TQM principles. Draws implications for managers and researchers.
Cytotoxic neo-clerodane diterpenes from Stachys aegyptiaca
2018
Abstract Two new E/Z neo-clerodane diterpene isomers, trivially named stachaegyptin D (1) and E (2), together with known compounds, stachysolon monoacetate (3) and stachysolon diacetate (4), were isolated from an organic-solvent extract of the medicinal herb Stachys aegyptiaca. Structures were elucidated by a combination of spectroscopic methods, including HREIMS, 1H, 13C, DEPT, and 2D NMR analysis, as well as, first time X-ray analysis for stachysolone (3). All isolated metabolites showed some activity against the human hepatocellular cell line, HepG2. Compound 4 was the most active with an IC50 of 59.5 μM.

This paper presents the use of Support Vector Machines (SVMs) for prediction and analysis of antisense oligonucleotide (AO) efficacy. The collected database comprises 315 AO molecules including 68 features each, inducing a problem well-suited to SVMs. The task of feature selection is crucial given the presence of noisy or redundant features, and the well-known problem of the curse of dimensionality. We propose a two-stage strategy to develop an optimal model: (1) feature selection using correlation analysis, mutual information, and SVM-based recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE), and (2) AO prediction using standard and profiled SVM formulations. A profiled SVM gives different weights to …
The Qualitative Researcher in the Quality of Life Field
2015
In the current society, there is a plurality of perspectives about the knowledge of the world and in that stage there is an expansion of the use of qualitative methods as expression of the contemporary interest in the subject-matters, considering the epistemological relevance acquired by the introduction of the subject’s word as a possibility to construct knowledge. The qualitative researcher is expected to feel personally involved in every step of the research process, because every consideration and decision will have to be based on entirely personal grounds. Thus, in this chapter, we shall look into the importance of the qualitative researcher’s leading role in each phase of the research…
Proteomic profiling of Trastuzumab (Herceptin(R))-sensitive and -resistant SKBR-3 breast cancer cells.
2013
BACKGROUND: The Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER-2), overexpressed in 25-30% of breast carcinomas (BC), is the therapeutic target for trastuzumab, a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody. The initial response to trastuzumab is often followed by drug-insensitivity within one year. Several hypotheses have been raised to explain this event, but the mechanisms behind the responses to trastuzumab are still unclear. Aim: To study the effects of short and prolonged trastuzumab treatment on the proteomic profiles of HER-2-overexpressing SKBR-3 BC cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cells were treated with trastuzumab to obtain sensitive and resistant clones. The drug effects were evaluat…
The interplay of interoceptive accuracy, facets of interoceptive sensibility, and trait anxiety: A network analysis
2021
Abstract Interoception is the sense of the body's physiological state. Both the ability to accurately perceive bodily signals, and the self-reported sensibility for the body were assumed to be reciprocally associated with negative affect. Up to now, the specific interplay between dimensions of interoception and negative affect remains largely unknown. We investigated the interplay of cardioceptive accuracy assessed by a heartbeat tracking task, facets of interoceptive sensibility as measured by the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness, and trait anxiety as measured by the trait version of the State-Trait-Anxiety inventory across two studies (n = 243) using a network analyt…
Antileukemic ancistrobenomine B and related 5,1′-coupled naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids from the Chinese liana Ancistrocladus tectorius
2017
A striking feature of the metabolite pattern of the Southeast Asian liana Ancistrocladus tectorius (Ancistrocladaceae) is the predominance of 5,1′-coupled naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids. About 20 alkaloids of this coupling type have so far been discovered in this plant species. Here, we report on the isolation of four new 5,1′-linked naphthylisoquinolines from the twigs and stems of A. tectorius. Two of them, the ancistrobenomines B (5) and C (6), belong to the very rare group of alkaloids with a fully dehydrogenated isoquinoline portion. Likewise unusual for naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids is the presence of a hydroxymethylene group at C-3. Within the large class of meanwhile ca. 180 such n…
Antiproliferative activity against leukemia cells of sesquiterpene lactones from the Turkish endemic plant Centaurea drabifolia subsp. detonsa
2017
The apolar organic extract obtained from aerial parts of Centaurea drabifolia Sibth. & Sm. subsp. detonsa (Bornm.) Wagenitz, growing wild in Turkey, was investigated for the first time for its secondary metabolite composition. Seven sesquiterpene lactones belonging to the guaiane class (1-7), including the new compound 4, along with a fatty acid lactone derivative (8), were isolated. The structures of these compounds were established by spectroscopic analysis, including 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques, with the stereostructure of the new guaiane 4 determined with the help of MTPA derivatization. Cytotoxic activities of compounds 1-7 were evaluated against two cancer cell lines, namely acute…
