Quines normes? Una aproximació al debat sobre el concepte de malaltia mental

2019

Which norms? Paraules clau: malaltia mental, naturalisme, construccionisme, antipsiquiatria, psiquiatria critica. Abstract: In this paper we ap…

Startup and effects of relative water renewal rate on water quality and growth of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in a unique RAS research platfo…

2018

Abstract The aquaculture industry is growing fast but facing two major challenges: a shortage of suitable locations for growth and the need to reduce environmental impacts. One solution for both these challenges is inland production through recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). The RAS technique is rather new, and several practical issues need to be solved. In this study, an experimental platform, consisting of ten individual RAS units, was built for small-scale testing of different RAS designs and operation methods, and two preliminary experiments were conducted. In the first experiment, the capability of different chemical additions (sodium nitrite, ammonium chloride and/or cane sugar)…

Promoting Awareness about Psychological Consequences of Living in a Community Oppressed by the Mafia: A Group-Analytic Intervention

2017

The effects of the Mafia have been extensively studied from sociological, economic, and historical points of view. However, little research has investigated the influence of the Mafia on individuals and communities in terms of its psychological and social impact. In order to contribute to the advancement of our understanding of the psychological effects of the Mafia on individuals and communities and to promote a participative process of social change, a group analytic intervention was conducted within a Community Based Participatory Research carried out in Corleone, a small Sicilian town with a historically recognized role in the evolution of the Mafia, as well as in the fight against its …

ERP denoising in multichannel EEG data using contrasts between signal and noise subspaces

2009

Abstract In this paper, a new method intended for ERP denoising in multichannel EEG data is discussed. The denoising is done by separating ERP/noise subspaces in multidimensional EEG data by a linear transformation and the following dimension reduction by ignoring noise components during inverse transformation. The separation matrix is found based on the assumption that ERP sources are deterministic for all repetitions of the same type of stimulus within the experiment, while the other noise sources do not obey the determinancy property. A detailed derivation of the technique is given together with the analysis of the results of its application to a real high-density EEG data set. The inter…

The Impact of Underemployment on Individual and Team Performance

2011

The issue of underemployment is one of increasing concern for countries across the globe. For example, in the USA estimates have put the number of underemployed as high as 20.3%, while in Europe the number of overqualified workers (just one dimension of underemployment) has been estimated at 21.5% (Groot & Maassen van den Brink, 2000). Unfortunately, given the current global economic crisis, this situation can only be expected to worsen in the near future. The international labor pool is becoming more educated and qualified (Peiro, Agut, & Grau, 2010) while organizations worldwide are seeking the minimum effective level of human capitol in an effort to cut costs. As such fewer jobs demandin…

Bio-vaterite formation by glycoproteins from freshwater pearls

2010

Abstract A 48 kDa acidic and putative calcium-binding glycoprotein was isolated from pearls of the freshwater mussel Hyriopsis cumingii . This protein was compared with a related 46 kDa polypeptide, obtained from the nacreous shell of the same species. Separation by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis revealed that the difference in molecular weight is due to the higher extent of glycosylation of the 48 kDa protein existing in pearls. Evidence is presented that the sugar moieties of the protein contribute to crystal growth, starting with the nucleation step. In in vitro precipitation experiments, the 48 kDa glycoprotein of pearls directed the formation of round-shaped vaterite crystals whil…

Bloch functions on the unit ball of an infinite dimensional Hilbert space

2015

The Bloch space has been studied on the open unit disk of C and some ho- mogeneous domains of C n . We dene Bloch functions on the open unit ball of a Hilbert space E and prove that the corresponding space B(BE) is invariant under composition with the automorphisms of the ball, leading to a norm that- modulo the constant functions - is automorphism invariant as well. All bounded analytic functions on BE are also Bloch functions. ones, resulting the fact that if for a given n; the restrictions of the function to the n-dimensional subspaces have their Bloch norms uniformly bounded, then the function is a Bloch one and conversely. We also introduce an equivalent norm forB(BE) obtained by repla…

Homeomorphisms of finite distortion: discrete length of radial images

2008

AbstractWe study homeomorphisms of finite exponentially integrable distortion of the unit ball Bn onto a domain Ω of finite volume. We show that under such a mapping the images of almost all radii (in terms of a gauge dimension) have finite discrete length. We also show that our dimension estimate is essentially sharp.

Boundary blow-up under Sobolev mappings

2014

We prove that for mappings $W^{1,n}(B^n, \R^n),$ continuous up to the boundary, with modulus of continuity satisfying certain divergence condition, the image of the boundary of the unit ball has zero $n$-Hausdorff measure. For H\"older continuous mappings we also prove an essentially sharp generalized Hausdorff dimension estimate.

The General Antiparticle Spectrometer (GAPS) - Hunt for dark matter using low energy antideuterons

2011

The GAPS experiment is foreseen to carry out a dark matter search using a novel detection approach to detect low-energy cosmic-ray antideuterons. The theoretically predicted antideuteron flux resulting from secondary interactions of primary cosmic rays with the interstellar medium is very low. So far not a single cosmic antideuteron has been detected by any experiment, but well-motivated theories beyond the standard model of particle physics, e.g., supersymmetry or universal extra dimensions, contain viable dark matter candidates, which could led to a significant enhancement of the antideuteron flux due to self-annihilation of the dark matter particles. This flux contribution is believed to…
