Pressurized hot water extraction (PHWE) for the green recovery of bioactive compounds and steviol glycosides from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves

2018

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves are a natural source of diterpenic glycosides, and various bioactive compounds. The objectives were to characterize antioxidants and steviol glycosides in the extracts obtained from Stevia after "green" pressurized hot water extraction (PHWE). PHWE extracts were obtained at different temperatures (100, 130, 160 °C); static extraction times (5 and 10 min), and cycle numbers (1, 2, 3) using a constant pressure of 10.34 MPa. Temperature was the most important parameter for extraction, where the highest recoveries of all bioactive compounds (except for carotenoids) were at 160 °C. Extracts obtained at longer static times had more steviol glycosides, condensed ta…

Effect of Cell Line and Differentiation on the Oxygenation Status of Experimental Sarcomas

1997

Since the measurement of tumor oxygenation status and the fraction of hypoxia within tumor tissue by computerized pO2-histography [10] has become increasingly im-portant in the clinical setting, many studies on tumor oxygenation in different experimental malignancies as well as in various human tumors have been carried out. Because pO2-histography is an invasive technique, this method has been used in humans mostly in superficial primary tumors and lymph node metastases [1,3,10] (for a review see [9]). Experimental studies in animals have been carried out on a wide range of isotransplanted rodent sarcomas or carcinomas [2,4,6–8,11] and of xenotransplanted human tumors [6]. The results obtai…

Microcirculatory and pH Alterations in Isotransplanted Rat and Xenotransplanted Human Tumors Associated with Hyperthermia

1988

The rationale for considering the use of hyperthermia as an antitumor agent is based on three different mechanisms of action depending on the hyperthermia levels chosen: At moderate hyperthermia levels (40°–42.5° C) heat can increase the radiosensitivity and/or the chemosensitivity. At higher tissue temperatures ( > 42.5° C) hyperthermia acts as a cytotoxic agent since mammalian cells die after heating in a temperature-, time-, and cell cycle-dependent manner. Besides direct effects on the cell membranes, on the cytoskeleton, on metabolic processes, on DNA replication, and on RNA and protein synthesis, indirect effects distinctly modulating the anticancer action of heat have to be considere…

A novel framework for MR image segmentation and quantification by using MedGA

2019

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Image segmentation represents one of the most challenging issues in medical image analysis to distinguish among different adjacent tissues in a body part. In this context, appropriate image pre-processing tools can improve the result accuracy achieved by computer-assisted segmentation methods. Taking into consideration images with a bimodal intensity distribution, image binarization can be used to classify the input pictorial data into two classes, given a threshold intensity value. Unfortunately, adaptive thresholding techniques for two-class segmentation work properly only for images characterized by bimodal histograms. We aim at overcoming these limitations and…

Volatiliteetti ja tuotot pohjoismaisilla osakemarkkinoilla

2014

Tämän työn tarkoituksena on selvittää, onko Pohjoismaissa havaittavissa alhaisen volatiliteetin anomaliaa ja tutkia volatiliteetin ja osaketuottojen suhdetta. Volatiliteettia mitataan osaketuottojen yhtiökohtaisella (idiosynkraattisella) volatiliteetilla, sekä yksinkertaisella volatiliteetilla. Tutkimuskysymystä tarkastellaan muodostamalla portfolioita osaketuotoista volatiliteetin mukaan. Käytettävä aineisto on Pohjoismaisilta osakemarkkinoilta vuosilta 1990–2013.

2022

The contribution introduces the topic covered by vol. 12 of AGATHÓN through essays, studies, research and projects on Innovability©® | Digital Transition to investigate the current widespread transformation that unites dichotomies (analogue and digital), enhances oxymorons (artificial intelligence), creates paradoxes (materiality of the intangible), while indiscriminately involving architecture, humanities and social sciences, anthropology, sociology, ecology, biology, physical-mathematical sciences and neurosciences, with impacts that – while already visible today and accelerated in part by the extraordinary global health emergency – will become even more evident in the medium and long ter…

Settore ICAR/12 - Tecnologia Dell'Architettura

Temperature and emissivity separation from calibrated data of the Digital Airborne Imaging Spectrometer

2001

Abstract The Digital Airborne Imaging Spectrometer (DAIS), with six thermal infrared channels in the 8–14 μm window, was flown over the Barrax test site, Spain, in the framework of the DAIS Experiment in the summer of 1998. Atmospheric correction of the DAIS thermal channels was performed by means of local radiosonde measurements and a radiative transfer model. Ground measurements of temperature and emissivity for six selected spots (two bare soils, two water bodies, and two vegetated fields) were conducted with the objective of providing calibration and validation targets. Three targets were used for a linear ground calibration of the DAIS thermal channels. With the ground-calibrated image…
