Postoperative Reduction of Fibrinolysis as a Prognostic Factor of Fatal Outcome
2001
For the resection of an esophagus carcinoma a mortality rate of 2 to 30% was described, It is still unclear whether an abdominothoracic or transhiatal intervention is superior regarding the outcome. To investigate the prognostic value of fibrinolytic markers, plasmin-α2-antiplasmin (PAP) and D-dimer (DD) values were determined daily in the early postoperative period for 11days. In addition, the course of PAP and DD concentrations was compared with the method of esophagectomy. Of the 28 patients enclosed in the study, 5 died between day 10 and day 34 owing to adult respiratory distress syndrome and septicemia. The PAP and DD concentrations increased in survivors after surgery until day 5 an…

2016
Masteroppgave i folkehelsevitenskap – Universitetet i Agder 2016 The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sports participation, sense of belonging and psychological distress in a sample of Norwegian adolescents during a one-year period. We also wanted investigate the potential mediating effect of sense of belonging on the relationship between the degree of sports participation and psychological distress one year later. This longitudinal study is part of a larger project called "the Relevance of Physical Activity Contexts in Every-Day Life of Adolescents" (REPAC). This study is based on data collections made in spring 2014 (N = 3049) and 2015 (N = 2890) where student…
Successful treatment of a patient with ARDS after pneumonectomy using high-frequency oscillatory ventilation.
1999
High frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) was used in a patient who developed the acute respiratory distress syndrome 5 days following a right pneumonectomy for bronchogenic carcinoma. When conventional pressure-controlled ventilation failed to maintain adequate oxygenation, HFOV dramatically improved oxygenation within the first few hours of therapy. Pulmonary function and gas exchange recovered during a 10-day period of HFOV. No negative side effects were observed. Early use of HFOV may be a beneficial ventilation strategy for adults with acute pulmonary failure, even in the postoperative period after lung resection.
Identitātes distress, pārbaudījumu trauksme un akadēmiskā pašefektivitāte dažādu studiju gadu studentiem
2020
MATERNAL COPING STRATEGIES IN RESPONSE TO A CHILD’S CHRONIC AND ONCOLOGICAL DISEASE. A CROSS-CULTURAL STUDY – ITALY & PORTUGAL
2013
Background: A child’s chronic or oncological disease is a stressful condition for parents, that may affect the adaptive management helpful for warranting the child’s wellbeing to a disease. Particularly, this study focuses on the possible connections between the variable “culture” and parental strategies to cope with child’s severe disease, by a comparison between Italian and Portuguese mothers. Design and Methods: This research inquires differences and cross-cultural elements among the coping strategies used by Italian and Portuguese mothers of child with chronic or oncological disease. Participants are two mothers’ groups: 59 Italian mothers (M=37,7; SD=4,5) and 36 Portuguese mothers (M=3…
Multirotations-CT und ARDS
2001
Purpose Aim of the study was to investigate alveolar inspiration and expiration using multiscan CT. Results of a visual assessment using a scoring system were compared with density ranges known to represent alveolar ventilation best. Method Pigs were examined before and after lavage-induced ARDS. All animals were examined using dynamic multiscan CT. The visual assessment was done by a scoring system proposed by Gattinoni. The results were compared with planimetric determination of defined density ranges. Results In the healthy lung, the visual analysis showed higher scores at lower airway pressures with a marked gradient, whereas at higher pressures neither opacities nor gradients were obse…
High flow nasal therapy in immunocompromised patients with acute respiratory failure: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
2019
Abstract Purpose The role of high-flow nasal therapy (HFNT) as compared to conventional oxygen therapy (COT) in immunocompromised patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) with acute respiratory failure (ARF) remains unclear. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis in order to address this issue. Methods We searched PubMed, Medline and Embase until November 7th, 2018. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs), non-randomized prospective and retrospective evidence were selected. Observational studies were considered for sensitivity analysis. Primary outcome was mortality rate; intubation rate was a secondary outcome. Results We included four studies in the primary analysis: one RCT…
Incompleteness and not just right experiences in the explanation of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
2015
In the past decade, not just right experiences (NJRE) and incompleteness (INC) have attracted renewed interest as putative motivators of symptoms in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), beyond harm avoidance (HA). This study examines, in 267 non-clinical undergraduates and 47 OCD patients, the differential contributions of HA, INC, and NJRE to the different OCD symptom dimensions and the propensity to have the disorder. The results indicate that although both the NJRE and INC range from normality to OCD, their number and intensity significantly increase as the obsessional tendencies increase, which suggests that they are vulnerability markers for OCD. Although they cannot be considered full…
