A Monitoring and Management System for Energy Storage Integration in Smart Grids

2019

The integration of distributed storage systems (DSSs) at users and prosumers level can significantly contribute to energy efficiency and increase profits from renewable energy exploitation, thanks to suitable scheduling of charging and discharging periods. On the other hand, to preserve network stability and secure operation, Distribution Systems Operators (DSOs) are interested in DSSs control and cooperation with the grid. In this framework this work proposes a simple monitoring and management system for DSSs scheduling and its integration in a distributed measurement and control system architecture for smart grids. In the paper the proposed algorithm is tested on a simple case study at ho…

AN OBJECT ORIENTED MODEL FOR SCHEDULING IN AGILE MANUFACTURING

2002

Agility represents a key factor in industry to handle the continuous market changes. Companies must re-organize their activities to be agile and competitive in such a dynamic environment. In particular, production planning and control tools are very important to optimize the manufacturing process responsiveness to sudden changes in customer demand. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop an object-oriented software architecture that allows the optimal line organization to be determined once a set of parts to be produced has been ordered. An optimization module represented by a simulated annealing algorithm has been interfaced with an object oriented architecture to build up a fr…

Multi-party metering: An architecture for privacy-preserving profiling schemes

2013

Several privacy concerns about the massive deploy- ment of smart meters have been arisen recently. Namely, it has been shown that the fine-grained temporal traces generated by these meters can be correlated with different users behaviors. A new architecture, called multi-party metering, for enabling privacy-preserving analysis of high-frequency metering data without requiring additional complexity at the smart meter side is here proposed. The idea is to allow multiple entities to get a share of the high-frequency metering data rather than the real data, where this share does not reveal any information about the real data. By aggregating the shares provided by different users and publishing …

A Novel Multi-hop Broadcasting Method for VANETs Based on Autonomic Computing Paradigm

2014

One of the three best papers, Selected for the Annals of Telecommunications journal; International audience; Broadcasting is widely used in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) but it is hard to achieve efficiently since it depends on the network density, i.e. may cause network congestion if the protocols are not well designed. This paper introduces a novel Autonomic Dissemination Method (ADM) which delivers messages in accordance with given priority and density levels. The proposed approach is based on two steps: an offline optimization process and an online adaptation to the network characteristics. The aim is to make effective use of radio resources when there are many messages to send imu…

Virtual Resource Allocation for Wireless Virtualized Heterogeneous Network with Hybrid Energy Supply

2022

In this work, two novel virtual user association and resource allocation algorithms are introduced for a wireless virtualized heterogeneous network with hybrid energy supply. In the considered system, macro base stations (MBSs) are supplied by the grid power and small base stations (SBSs) have the energy harvesting capability in addition to the grid power supplement. Multiple infrastructure providers (InPs) own the physical resources, i.e., BSs and radio resources. The Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) are able to recent these resources from the InPs and operate the virtualized resources for providing services to different users. In particular, aiming to maximize the overall utility …

Privacy-Preserving Overgrid: Secure Data Collection for the Smart Grid

2020

In this paper, we present a privacy-preserving scheme for Overgrid, a fully distributed peer-to-peer (P2P) architecture designed to automatically control and implement distributed Demand Response (DR) schemes in a community of smart buildings with energy generation and storage capabilities. To monitor the power consumption of the buildings, while respecting the privacy of the users, we extend our previous Overgrid algorithms to provide privacy preserving data aggregation (PP-Overgrid). This new technique combines a distributed data aggregation scheme with the Secure Multi-Party Computation paradigm. First, we use the energy profiles of hundreds of buildings, classifying the amount of &ldquo

Classifier Optimized for Resource-constrained Pervasive Systems and Energy-efficiency

2017

Computational intelligence is often used in smart environment applications in order to determine a user’scontext. Many computational intelligence algorithms are complex and resource-consuming which can beproblematic for implementation devices such as FPGA:s, ASIC:s and low-level microcontrollers. Thesetypes of devices are, however, highly useful in pervasive and mobile computing due to their small size,energy-efficiency and ability to provide fast real-time responses. In this paper, we propose a classi-fier, CORPSE, specifically targeted for implementation in FPGA:s, ASIC:s or low-level microcontrollers.CORPSE has a small memory footprint, is computationally inexpensive, and is suitable for…

Identification of Distributed Systems with Logical Interaction Structure

2012

This paper focuses on the structure identification problem for a class of networked systems, where the interaction among components or agents is described through logical maps. In particular, agents are heterogeneous cooperating systems, i.e. they may have different individual dynamics and different interaction rules depending on input events. While we assume that the individual agents' dynamics are known, each agent has partial knowledge of the logical map encoding the interaction of another agent with its neighbors. Based on the so-called algebraic normal form for binary functions, we present a technique by which the network structure described by a logical function can be dynamically est…

Quantized Dissensus in switching networks with nodes death and duplication* *Research supported by MURST-PRIN “Robust Techniques for uncertain system…

2009

Abstract In this paper we discuss agents exchanging quantized flows to diverge one from the others according to a dissensus protocol. A Quantized Gossip algorithm is considered. Evolutions of the states during switching intervals and at switching instants and their property are described and analyzed. The modeling of switching systems describing networks where death and duplication processes occur is described. Some properties of the topology reached by the network when different rules of duplication and inheritance are implemented.

A Dynamic Distributed Algorithm for Multicast Path Setup

2005

In the past few years, there has been a considerable work on multicast route selection techniques, with the aim to design scalable protocols which can guarantee an efficient use of network resources. Steiner tree-based multicast algorithms produce optimal trees, but they are prohibitively expensive. For this reason, heuristic methods are generally employed. Conventional centralized Steiner heuristics provide effective solutions, but they are unpractical for large networks, since they require a complete knowledge of the network topology. In this paper, we propose a new distributed approach that is efficient and suitable for real network adoption. Performance evaluation indicates that it outp…
