International audience; The reduced diameter of skeletal myofibres is a hallmark of several congenital myopathies, yet the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms remain elusive. In this study, we investigate the role of HACD1/PTPLA, which is involved in the elongation of the very long chain fatty acids, in muscle fibre formation. In humans and dogs, HACD1 deficiency leads to a congenital myopathy with fibre size disproportion associated with a generalized muscle weakness. Through analysis of HACD1-deficient Labradors, Hacd1-knockout mice, and Hacd1-deficient myoblasts, we provide evidence that HACD1 promotes myoblast fusion during muscle development and regeneration. Percutaneous antegrade electropapillotomy. Study in dogs.

Antegrade electropapillotomy using the percutaneous transcystic approach was successfully performed in 11 of 16 dogs. When the intervention was effective, the pressure gradient between common bile duct and duodenum decreased from 6 to 1.3 mm Hg on average and returned to gradients slightly below the initial values after 4 weeks, owing to reactivation of the sphincter mechanism. Ineffective cutting, however, resulted in a temporary pressure rise. In one dog a papillary stenosis developed and was relieved by antegrade electrocutting. Modulation of adrenergic contraction of dog pulmonary arteries by nitric oxide and prostacyclin.

Abstract The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of endothelium-derived nitric oxide and prostaglandins on the contractile responses of isolated dog pulmonary arteries to electrical field stimulation and noradrenaline. Electrical field stimulation (1–8 Hz, 20 v, 0.25 ms duration, for 30 s) produced frequency-dependent contractions that were abolished by tetrodotoxin, guanethidine and, prazosin (all at 10−6 M). Noradrenaline induced concentration-dependent contractions with an EC50 of 1.85 × 10−6 M. ANTI-ARRHYTHMIC EFFECT OF DEHYDROBENZPERIDOL IN DOGS

SUMMARY The anti-arrhythmic activity of dehydrobenzperidol (DBP) was studied during halothane anaesthesia in dogs. Arrhythmias were provoked by single intravenous injections of catecholamines. Two groups of dogs were studied. One received norepinephrine and the odier epinephrine. The dose just sufficient to initiate arrirythmias was defined as the “threshold”. Electrocardiogram, blood pressure and heart rate were monitored. The principal findings were:— 1  The dog heart was “sensitized” to epinephrine and norepinephrine by halothane. 2  DBP did have an anti-arrhydimic action. A dose of 0.150 mg/kg roughly doubled the “threshold”. 3  DBP had significant alpha-adrenergic blocking properties. …

Effect of Glutathione on Canine Myocardial Ischaemia Without Reperfusion

Abstract The present study was to evaluate the effect of exogenous glutathione on myocardial damage resulting from permanent (no reperfusion) coronary ligation (3 or 6 h) in anaesthetized dogs. Haemodynamics, infarct size and myocardial glutathione content were determined. Erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was also determined in coronary venous blood samples. Glutathione was administered by the intraperitoneal route, 100 mg kg−1 as initial dose given 5 min before coronary ligation, and successive doses of 25 mg kg−1 every 40 min throughout the study period. Protective effect of N-acetylcysteine on ischaemia-induced myocardial damage in canine heart.

The glutathione redox pathway is an important antioxidant system in the myocardium. N-Acetylcysteine is a low molecular weight glutathione precursor that has been used clinically to replenish glutathione stores. The present study was aimed at evaluating the protective effect of N-acetylcysteine on myocardial damage resulting from permanent coronary occlusion (without reperfusion) in anaesthetized dogs. N-Acetylcysteine (150 mg kg−1 i.v.) administered 2 min before occlusion rerduced infarct size in dogs subjected to 24 h ischemia. The aim was to compare NT-proBNP in dogs at different LeishVet stages of CanL and with idiopathic chronic kidney disease (CKD). Neourethra: a new two-stage procedure for reconstruction of the functional urethra.

Abstract In 14 male dogs, the functional urethra was replaced by a bladder flap tube in a 2-stage procedure. In the 1st stage of the operation a bipedicle strip from the anterior bladder wall was tubularized around a 10F or 12F catheter. After 10 to 12 weeks the 2nd stage of the procedure was performed: the bladder neck was transected and sutured, and the cranial pedicle of the bipedicle tube was transected and pulled through the bluntly dissected pelvic floor muscles. ECHOCARDIOGRAPHIC ASSESSMENT OF 537 DOGS WITH MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE AND LEAFLET INVOLVEMENT

In this work we investigated which mitral valve leaflet was most often involved in mitral valve prolapse with degenerative mitral valve disease and whether there was an association with breed, age, gender, or weight. Five hundred and thirty-seven dogs with mitral valve prolapse-degenerative mitral valve disease were assessed; the cross-breed dog was the most represented breed (248 dogs, 46.2%). Mitral valve prolapse was more common in male dogs, and the average age was 11.3 +/- 2.8 years.
