Direct mass measurements of cadmium and palladium isotopes and their double-βtransitionQvalues
2012
The Q-value of the double-electron capture in Cd-108 has been determined to be (272.04 +/- 0.55) keV in a direct measurement with the double-Penning trap mass spectrometer TRIGA-TRAP. Based on this result a resonant enhancement of the decay rate of Cd-108 is excluded. We have confirmed the double-beta transition Q-values of Cd-106 and Pd-110 recently measured with the Penning-trap mass spectrometers SHIPTRAP and ISOLTRAP, respectively. Furthermore, the atomic masses of the involved nuclides Cd-106, Cd-108, Cd-110, Pd-106, Pd-108 and Pd-110 have been directly linked to the atomic mass standard.
Structures ofPo201andRn205from EC/β+-decay studies
2010
Several low-lying excited states in {sub 86}{sup 205}Rn{sub 119} and {sub 84}{sup 201}Po{sub 117} were identified for the first time following EC/{beta}{sup +} decay of {sup 205}Fr and {sup 201}At, respectively, using {gamma}-ray and conversion electron spectroscopy at the CERN isotope separator on-line (ISOLDE) facility. The EC/{beta}{sup +} branch from {sup 205}Fr was measured to be 1.5(2)%. The excited states of the daughter nuclei are understood in terms of the odd nucleon coupling to the neighboring even-even core. The neutron single-particle energies of the p{sub 3/2} orbital relative to the f{sub 5/2} ground state in {sup 205}Rn, and the f{sub 5/2} orbital relative to the p{sub 3/2} …
Beta decay of 108Mo and of neighbouring even Mo-isotopes
1995
Abstract A combination of the proton-induced fission of 238 U and the on-line mass separation based on the ion-guide technique has been applied in the study of neutron-rich Mo-isotopes. The decays of 106,108 Mo have been studied by using gamma-, beta-, X-ray and conversion-electron spectroscopy. The decay scheme of 106 Mo has been revised and a beta-decay half-life of 8.73(12) s has been measured for this nucleus. A beta-decay half-life of 1.09(2) s and a decay energy of 5120(40) keV have been measured for 108 Mo. The decay scheme of 108 Mo has been constructed and altogether 29 new transitions have been placed in the decay scheme. The beta-decay strengths of 102,104,106,108 Mo have been de…
Is the single-state dominance realized in double-β-decay transitions?
1998
In the single-state-dominance hypothesis (SSDH) the decay rate of the two-neutrino double-\ensuremath{\beta} decay to the final ground state is solely determined by virtual single-\ensuremath{\beta}-decay transitions via the ${1}^{+}$ ground state of the intermediate nucleus. A very important consequence the SSDH will be that some of nonaccelerator measurements of double-\ensuremath{\beta}-decay observables could be circumvented by single-\ensuremath{\beta}-decay measurements. To assess the validity of the SSDH, we have carried out a theoretical analysis of all double-\ensuremath{\beta}-decay transitions where the spin-parity of the ground-state of the intermediate nucleus is ${1}^{+}$. The…
β−decay of the neutron-rich isotope215Pb
2013
This Brief Report reports on the first observation of the β--delayed γ decay of 215Pb, feeding states in 215Bi. The 215Pb beam was produced using resonant laser ionization and mass separated at the ISOLDE-CERN on-line mass separator. This ensured clean identification of the γ rays as belonging to the decay of 215Pb or its β-decay daughters. A half-life of 147(12) s was measured for the 215Pb β decay and a level scheme for the daughter nucleus 215Bi is proposed, resulting in an extended systematics of the excited states of the neutron-rich Bi isotopes.
Neutron-rich isotopesTi54−57
1996
The neutron-rich isotopes $^{54\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}57}\mathrm{Ti}$ and $^{58\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}60}\mathrm{Cr}$ are produced by fragmentation of a 64.5 MeV/nucleon $^{65}\mathrm{Cu}^{26+}$ beam in a 90 mg/${\mathrm{cm}}^{2}$ $^{9}\mathrm{Be}$ target. Following particle identification by energy loss and time of flight, the radioactive decay was observed by \ensuremath{\beta} singles and \ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\gamma}-coincidence measurements. The results obtained for $^{58\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}60}\mathrm{Cr}$ are compared to previous results, whereas the decay of the $^{54\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}57}\mathrm{Ti}$ isotopes is studied here. \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray intensities and en…
Spin-flip? ? decay of even-even deformed nuclei110Ru and112Ru
1991
Neutron-rich nuclides110Ru and112Ru produced in symmetric fission of238U by 20 MeV protons have been studied at the IGISOL facility by means ofβ-ray,γ-ray and conversion electron spectroscopy. A total of 12 and 6γ-transitions were observed in the decays of110Ru and112Ru, respectively. Multipolarities were determined for a few transitions. The beta decay half-life was determined to be 11.6±0.6 s for110Ru and 1.75±0.07 s for112Ru. As a side product, a new value of 2.1±0.3 s for theβ half-life of the112Rh 1+ state was obtained. The decay energy measured with the plastic scintillator was 2.81 ±0.05 MeV for110Ru and 4.52 ±0.08 MeV for112Ru. The beta decay schemes of110Ru and112Ru isotopes indica…
Beta Decay Study of the Tz=−2 56Zn Nucleus and the Determination of the Half-Lives of a Few fp-shell Nuclei
2014
Abstract This paper concerns the experimental study of the β decay properties of few proton-rich fp -shell nuclei. The nuclei were produced at GANIL in fragmentation reactions, separated with the LISE spectrometer and stopped in an implantation detector surrounded by Ge detectors. The β -delayed gammas, β -delayed protons and the exotic β -delayed gamma-proton emission have been studied. Preliminary results are presented. The decay of the T z = − 2 nucleus 56 Zn has been studied in detail. Information from the β -delayed protons and β -delayed gammas has been used to deduce the decay scheme. The exotic beta-delayed gamma-proton decay has been observed for the first time in the fp -shell. Th…
β-decay half-life of70Kr: A bridge nuclide for therpprocess beyondA=70
2000
The -decay half-life of 70 Kr has been measured for the first time at the ISOLDE PSB Facility at CERN. Mass separated 70 Kr ions were produced by 1 GeV proton induced spallation reactions in a Nb foil. The measured half-life is 57(21) ms. This value is consistent with the half-life calculated assuming a pure Fermi decay, but is clearly lower than the value used in a recent rp-process reaction flow calculation. The result shows that the reaction flow via two-proton-capture of 68 Se is 2.5 times faster than previously calculated assuming an astrophysical temperature of 1.5 GK and a density of 10 6 g/cm 3 .
Total absorption spectroscopy of 58Cu decay
2001
The β decay of 58Cu has been studied by means of total absorption γ-ray spectroscopy. The β feeding to the 58Ni states has been measured, and the strength of the 58Cu(1+) →58Ni(0+) Gamow-Teller transition has been determined with improved accuracy.
