A novel community driven software for functional enrichment analysis of extracellular vesicles data

Bioinformatics tools are imperative for the in depth analysis of heterogeneous high-throughput data. Most of the software tools are developed by specific laboratories or groups or companies wherein they are designed to perform the required analysis for the group. However, such software tools may fail to capture "what the community needs in a tool". MCD: Overcoming the Data Download Bottleneck in Data Centers

The data download problem in data centers describes the increasingly common task of coordinated loading of identical data to a large number of nodes. Data download is seen as a significant problem in exascale HPC applications. Uncoor-dinated reading from a central file server creates contention at the file server and its network interconnect. We propose and evaluation a reliable multicast based approach to solve the data download problem. This paper empirically investigates and characterizes users of recorded music, both downloaders and purchasers. To this end we analyse the role of the variables defining the different segments of music users. In doing so, we have considered two main traits influencing the use of music. First, objective variables such as demographics, music consumption habits, music genres and technology. Second, subjective variables such as motives and attitudes towards piracy. This interview with Micheál Ó Nualláin, Brian O’Nolan’s brother and the only surviving member of his generation of the family, was conducted on 10 June 2014 in Monkstown, County Dublin. Its purpose was to obtain information about Brian O’Nolan’s private library at the John J. Burns Library, Boston College; the archive being the focal point of this issue of The Parish Review. It was Micheál who sold the last of his brother’s effects to Boston College in May 1997 and therefore he is in a position to answer questions about the purchase of the library, its contents and their provenance, and the reading practices of Brian and Evelyn O’Nolan.To read the article, click Download or View PDF.
Down and out in Italian towns: Measuring the impact of economic downturns on crime

The paper investigates the effect of local economic conditions on crime. The study focuses on Italy’s local labor markets and analyzes the response of crime to the severe slump of 2007-2011. It shows that the downturn led to a significant increase in economic-related offenses that do not require particular criminal skills or tools (namely, thefts).
